Is This The Rapture?!

Metallic taps sounded as a young man steadily made his way up the stairway to his apartment. Yawning a little as he arrived at his doorstep, he opened the lock and entered into his humble abode.

Jovan lightly kicked off his shoes and headed straight toward the shower. Turning on the hot water, he finished taking off his clothes and stepped under the water. He really enjoyed spending minutes on end just letting the water wash over him. Although it was not as good as a hot bath it did its job in relaxing his weary body. Plus, nobody would be too bothered by any shower thoughts that came up.

At least Jovan would not.

After all, interesting revelations from spending time to think in the shower like . . .

"Doctors hope you get sick and plumbers hope you get clogged pipes, but thieves hope you are prosperous."

or

"Whenever people think of traveling to the past, many are worried about causing a change in the present, but few people believe they can change the future in the present."

. . . definitely spice up a person's life for at least a moment.

Jovan spent half an hour enjoying the warmth of the water before he started drying off. Then, he slipped into the pajamas he always wore and settled down into his bed before starting to read from W**novel on his phone.

The simple life Jovan lived is what he wished for or so he believed. Many would say he lacked ambition and drive, but he would argue that he accomplished his dream of peacefully living in an apartment as Side Character J.

Jovan's "dream" caused him to be rather estranged with his family as they expected him to get a degree, find a wife, and give them grandchildren. Too bad he had an argument against all of them.

"I plan to live frugally on my own so a simple job will do. I don't need to earn a degree."

"50% of people nowadays do not plan to ever find a spouse and neither do I."

"The world is starting to be unable to support the growing human population. I am actually helping the human race by not having children."

While it was true that Jovan wanted an easygoing life, he did always have that want.

The want to be rich and powerful so he could live as he pleased.

The want to have a wife or wives or maybe even a small harem.

The want to . . . er . . . maybe not the children, too early for that.

Unfortunately, Jovan never let this desire ever grow. He always snuffed it out thinking it was too late for an Average Joe like him and it was not like his life was particularly bad just painfully mediocre. However, even as a realist, he never stopped wishing that he could go to another world and live a good life in a fantasy world like the novels he read described.

As per usual, Jovan had finished reading all the newly released chapters of the novels he was reading. He stretched his body. Checking one last time to see if another novel would update, he set his phone down once he didn't see anything.

Crack!!

Before he could even rest his head upon his pillow, the sound of something shattering assaulted his eardrums causing his ears to start ringing. Before he could recover the pain suddenly stopped. As well as any feeling to the rest of his body.

Suddenly, feeling as if he was being pulled, he got a glimpse of his body before abruptly soaring to the sky. Looking around himself he saw hundreds if not thousands of white wisps floating upwards. Looking at himself he found himself just like the white wisps.

'All these people', Jovan observed with a religious mindset, 'who knew so many people would get "raptured"'.

Staring up into sky, Jovan might have pissed himself if he still had his body because there was a large crack within the sky. It looked as it was the giant maw of a demon ready to bring human souls into an endless void.

'Is this the rapture?!'

Our protagonist was now introduced in the 2nd chapter. Slightly unconventional, but it works for me. For those who do not know, I am referencing, the Rapture - the transportation of Christians off of planet Earth when Jesus ha his 2nd coming.

If you like the story so far, why don't you add it to your library?
