8 Chapter 8, Hold the city

It's never ending they keep coming, Charlie wants this city either by killing us all or pushing us out but we're not going to let that happen.

I aim my rifle and fire again dropping a Charlie carrying a Machine Gun, I continue to fire then I ripped a grenade from my already dead soldier and tossed it.

Not sure if I got any of them with that grenade but I'm sure their ears are ringing. I ran out and searched for some advantage over the enemy, I kicked open a door which inside had a NVA sticking his bayonet into a ARVN Soldier.

He faced me then charged at me but unleashed my bullets into him as he dropped. I check on the Soldier but he was already dead so there was no saving him.

Listening to the outside it was chaos, I heard screaming and shooting. A mixture of English and Vietnamese in the area, I open a window watching Paul firing the M60 ripping into a small group of NVA with him was Marshall who was yelling into the radio.

Then I saw Scully firing his shotgun at another Charlie who hide behind cover, Bucky I couldn't see him but I'm sure he was taking shots at the enemy.

I noticed the NVA tank firing it's machine gun which was starting to pin my friends down, problem was I didn't have any charges on me so I need to find a M72 LAW or any type of explosives.

Running down the stairs I came across some scared Marines I asked one of them had a LAW which one of them did, so I asked him to assist me.

But he was to scared so I asked for his LAW which he handed over, I took it into my arms and ran for the window and aim at the tank.

At the top of my lungs I shouted "BACKBLAST AREA CLEAR!" "CLEAR FIRE!" The Marine next to me shouted as well.

I fired the LAW as the rocket exited from the launcher and the tank was gone. Nothing but a burning mess and any NVA near it were caught in the splash.

I put down the LAW and ran out into the street to regroup with my squad, just as I was about to meet with them I never get blasted by another machine gun forcing me to run into a alley way.

I was cursing to the point I was becoming actually more angry then scared, I turned back firing a small group of Charlie who tried to flank me.

Running into a house then out of the corner of my eye a NVA tackled me into a closet. I struggled with him, punching him in the jaw which he took without being fazed then he swung a blade for me which I held his wrist tightly.

He was screaming something at me which I pushed my hand into face to shove him off his blade grew closer to my neck then I heard a gunshot.

He limped over me which I tossed him off, I looked up to see Chau again. She was holding my rifle I got up and took my rifle "Thanks Chau" She hugged me tightly which I held her in my arm.

"Chau you need to find a hiding spot okay? now" I tell her which she just ran away I hope she found safety.

I heard Kyle patching up a screaming soldier, as I ran to him and put pressure on the wound while Kyle injects the man with morphine.

I also noticed Marshall continuing to shout in the radio "Damnit! we are getting hit hard! where's our fucking back up?!" Marshall became more angry as he put the radio away "Sarge! we gotta hold the city off til 7th Cavalry ETA Eight Minutes!!"

"Damnit!" Gillian shouted continuing to fire at the enemy. "Anthony I want you, Scully and Marshall to flank the enemy! go go go!" He shouted as we followed his orders.

Running through broken homes and buildings while Scully pumped his shotgun preparing for anymore of the enemy. We ran across another group of U.S troops one of them as Jamie he smirked at me which I nodded.

We looked over the edge and saw the enemy still rushing in, "Okay Jamie use your grenade launcher on the group, Marshall you continue to radio in, Scully with me" I said.

Me and Scully quietly ran out and flanked the enemy, I took my last grenade then tossed it. One of the NVA noticed it and before he could shout I shot him.

Scully begin to slam fire his shotgun spreading pellets into the enemy while I fired my rifle. Jamie fired his Grenade launcher attached to his rifle into the cluster of the enemy which made them easier to take out.

Without any thinking I was slipping my bayonet on which I guess Scully noticed and did the same with me. I ran out with him I continue to fire my rifle before sticking a NVA into the chest.

I usually fired from range but doing up close felt more intense as the last thing I saw was them looking at me with fear in their eyes. Once we cleared the enemy from the streets we still had to deal with the ones entering the city.

Gillian ran over with Marshall, Paul and Kyle as we took cover just as more tanks came in however out helicopters came in.

"They need coordinates!" Marshall says which Gillian ordered me and Marshall to take out the tanks. I ran with Marshall as I took out my binoculars and looked through them.

"769, 578 Tango Hotel Echo!" I shouted which Marshall send the coordinates back then the Helicopters begin to fire rockets into the tanks.

Watching them erupt into flame and metal begining blown to scrap. The firing begin to slowly die off then we had silence.

I was panting like I was in a marathon my heart was just beating faster then I could think but we did it we defended the city.

"Well boys we did it good job" Gillian said then he turned to me "Outstanding work son I'm putting you in for Corporal you've earned it"

Paul patted my back as he congratulated me on my position, I just stood silent still thinking on how did I just survived this?

To me this is still a mysterious which I'll be writing home about.
