Who am I?

A clear orb falls from the sky and disappears into a forest. Almost immediately afterwards, a small pebble, right below where the falling orb was, gains self-awareness.

"Who am I?"

"What am I?"

"Where am I?"

"When am I?"

"Why am I?"

"How am I?"

These are the thoughts running through the mind of the pebble, which looks just like any other pebble in the forest.

The pebble is hoping for some sort of answer, but has no external senses, and can therefore only think about these complex questions and try to deduce some understanding of what is going on.

"I have the ability to think, meaning that I exist. Since I exist, and I did not exist before, I must have been created. Since I have been created, and did not create myself, someone else must have created me. Since someone created me, that someone must have created me for some purpose. Since the one that created me has a purpose for me, the creator should have given me some guidance as to what my purpose is or how to fulfill it..."

These thoughts and more are what go through the pebble's mind after having gained self-awareness. Given the lack of any external senses, the concept of time has not been introduced to the pebble as of yet, so it is alone with its thoughts for an unknown period, trying to understand what we all take for granted and gain a sense of identity. Trying to answer the question:

"Who am I?"
