Don't let other people definitely change you opinion on any topic that you aren't fluent in. When they throw facts at you that means they might've done research but even that might've been a targeted search for only what they wanted. It is easy to search for information about topics that are widely discussed the problem lots of people face in unknowingly choosing biased sources for their information or even worse biased searches. If you look for general information then you will get general information, although it might not be very specific it will be useful the more specific your search however the more narrow your focus on information, it's like changing from a lights in a room to a spotlight, the room light will cover everything in decent light, the spotlight however will be significantly brighter but doesn't cover everything only what it wants you to see.
