Potatoes and pumpkin

Mark Evans was cycling towards the downtown of the New York. He was going to see the conditions of the bodies that were drying in the fire a few hours ago.

The fire happened in the night so it might have attracted the Police and other mobsters. He was here to see if the people survived or not.

"Future plans should be considered in the present."

Mark muttered after looking at the burnt building and it's surroundings. It was devoid of life.

"So they survived."

Mark took out his camera from the bag and took a picture of the burnt building and it's surroundings.

He then went towards the victims house. His high school also happened to be in the same path from his current route so he had no fear.

He was near the house of the victim when he saw the abuser being taken by the Police. He stopped his bicycle and took a picture of the man as well. After that he pedalled the bicycle while looking at the Police and the abuser.

Soon he was out of their sights. He pedalled at a moderate speed and entered his high school.

Mark parked his bicycle and started to eat his lunch in the parking while sitting on his bicycle.

Currently he wore loose clothing with a hood hiding his body and a really thick pair of glasses that covered his face.

His long hair was hidden in the hood. He didn't look like he did the night before.

[His pic in the Kofi.]

After sometime classes started and he went towards his class. He was an outcast and that was because the other students ignored his existence simply because they could not sense him that much.

To his classmates, he and the cleaner would look the same. No difference.

End of school.

Mark was cycling towards his home. He had already done all the works that he wanted to do in the past 2 and a half years and he now had the time to do things that he didn't wanted or didn't got the time to.

In half an hour he reached his home, bathed, got changed into his normal clothes and then went out again.

His mother looked at his figure in sadness.

He reached the newspaper agency in a few minutes.

"I want to resign from my position."

Mark stated.

"What!!? Why? You are the Star of our agency. You got the employee of the year for two times at that." His employer said in a flurry of words.

"I have realised what I want to be and my studies are also important. I don't need any compensation or this months pay. Goodbye."

Mark bowed towards his employer and then got on his bike and rode away. Next stop, Pizza delivery shop.

"I resign and give me my two months pay as well."

Three minutes and three months pay later, Mark went towards his other workplaces.

Three hours later.

Mark was finished with all of them. Except for the Newspaper agency, he extorted money from all his other workplaces.

The Newspaper agency was the first job that he got and it was also the only job that took him in at that time. Along with the fact that except for a few people, the other staff were really good and well-mannered.

He looked at the amount of money that he got from them. The people he semi-fried included. It was a lot. Enough for him to pay for his high school, his college and to buy a new house.

"Black money is the best. Only when it is mixed with the white ones though."

He stopped his bicycle in front of his home and got inside.

His mother was talking about life with her daughter.

"What to make for dinner?" Mark asked.

"Then pure veg it is." He gave the answer on his own as the reply from his mother was late.

"At least give me thirty seconds to think." Mrs Evans pouted.

"It will still be mac and cheese variant anyway." Mark declared.

"Well it would be but... What are you doing here? Did you take a leave?" Mrs Evans asked in shock.

"I quit." Mark stated while taking out vegetables from the fridge.

"Ohhh. Thank God. Wait, why did you quit? Did you get a better job or something?" Mrs Evans fear rose.

"I quit all of them. Now I am unemployed." Mark said while chopping vegetables. Mainly Pumpkin and Potatoes.

"Ohh. That's good. You don't need to work, you know. You are still a kid and you are not unemployed but a student. And I don't think that you need to work. Just stay with us forever and laze." Mrs Evans said to Mark.

"I decline. I work for it helps me to remove my mind from unnecessary thoughts." Mark commented. He was now preparing the dishes. Frightening efficiency.

"You never change. I should have stopped Henry when he gave you that book." Mrs Evans regretted.

In the background, her daughter was left forgotten. She chose to leave. Big mistake.

"Where are you going?" Mrs Evans said to her daughter.

"Do it somewhere else." Mark said to the both of them.

"Sorry, I will pay attention to not do it." Mrs Evans replied.

"I have mostly cured from it by now. I told you to do that for our neighbours are going to come to invite us for the marriage of their daughter. If they heard you fight then that would leave a bad impression on them." Mark gave a big reply to them.

"Ohh. I will scold her later then. By the way , what are you making?"

"An Indian household speciality. Potato peas curry and sour pumpkin curry with rice." Mark stated while frying the pumpkins and potatoes in their respective pans.

"Have you ever made it before?" Mrs Evans said as well.

"Nope. I have eaten it many times though. It was tasty. Simple but tasty. Extremely at that." Mark said in his excited and cheery self. The one that he used in the beginning of chapter two.

In his excitement and enthusiasm, he forgot that he never showed this side of him to his 'family'.

And an explosion of thousands of thoughts happened in the minds of both Mrs Evans and Lucy. This was the first time that they had seen him like that. Literally the first time.

The other times, he was mostly devoid of emotions and apathy for others.

"Who was the one that cooked it?" Mrs Evans asked the question. She wanted to see more of the cheery self.

Mrs Evans failed.

"The person that I admire the most." Mark said in his robotic voice. He put the rice on heat.

Both Mrs Evans and Lucy also came to the reality. This was the person that they knew. That was just a thought. Maybe, it was a hallucination.
