A Helper

A handsome man in black and dark blue clothing with messy white hair could be seen walking across the town square, with the sun high in the sky, indicating midday.

In his hand, a piece of grilled meat wrapped up in a big leaf.

'It's quite good' Kaito thought while he continued walking towards the magic shop.

He stopped outside and finished his grilled meat and was just about to open the door when he heard the sound of a message notification.

Kaito checked, it was from DarkestBone-

〈DarkestBone: I'm done selling the wolf meat boss!〉

'That was pretty fast' Kaito thought

He hadn't been gone from the game for that long, now the question is how cheap the meat had been sold for.

without having to reply there instantly came another message-

〈DarkestBone: I got a total of 36 silver! i hope that's okay!〉

Kaito was surprised, according to the market price the wolf meat was sold at around 2 silver for each piece.

Selling 20 pieces would take a long time, DarkestBone had sold all 20 pieces and nearly gotten the full price in only half an hour.

'This guy has some skill as a merchant'

Kaito pondered before replying-

〈Insane: that's good, i'm just outside the magic shop, come find me.〉

Instantly after sending the message he got another notification

〈DarkestBone: On my way!〉

Kaito gave a low sigh, DarkestBone seemed like a good guy, and pretty capable at that, maybe it would be a good idea to have him around.

Kaito didn't need to wait long before he saw a shape running towards him

DarkestBone stopped in front of him and put his hands on his knees and started breathing heavily.

'This guy needs to get some better stamina' Kaito thought while looking at the player in front of him.

While still trying to catch his breath DarkestBone put a hand in front of him with a small bag of coins.

Kaito took it and 36 silver was added to his total currency-

DarkestBone finally caught his breath and stood up and looked at Kaito.

Kaito quickly gave the coin purse back to DarkestBone who grabbed the bag and was ready to put it back into his inventory when he heard a faint rattle of metal.

DarkestBone looked at Kaito and then opened the coin purse, 6 silver coins were inside.

"Your share" Kaito said

DarkestBone didn't really know how to react, he hadn't killed any wolf, ever! and now he had gotten rewarded for selling the loot of the top ranker: Insane!

He felt like he didn't deserve so much silver, he had only sold the loot, which he was admittedly good at, being a charismatic individual.

His first reaction was going to be to refuse the coins but as he looked up at the player "Insane" standing in front of him he saw indifferent eyes, he understood that he had no saying in this matter.

Kaito was pleased to have gotten a helper, perhaps even an ally.

"I'm going to go into the shop, you can wait here and i'll teach you about the necromancer class when i'm done" Kaito said while turning around to open the door of the magic shop.

"Sure thing! i'll wait right here" DarkestBone answered as if on instinct.

As Kaito entered the shop he was met by a lovely smell, there was a faint trace of smoke swirling around the shop and moving up towards the roof, flowing above the towering stacks of books.

Kaito looked around and saw incense being burnt in different parts of the room, the fragrance they produced instilled a calm and warming feeling throughout the whole body.

He looked around and saw that he was alone in here the shop.

Kaito started to gently walk around in the shop, not to the disturb the organized chaos.

Suddenly, from behind a shelf appeared the one he wanted to see;

with a big smile on her face, soul piercing eyes and messy purple hair, Nyx exclaimed-

"Oh! lovely seeing you here today again"

She took on step closer to Kaito, now barely a few inches from his face.

"What can i help you with?" she playfully asked

Kaito had already steeled himself for this woman's approaches and calmly answered-

"I'm looking for skill books"

Nyx stared at Kaito for a long time, almost as if lost in a trance.

Beads of sweat was beginning to become visible on Kaitos neck as the moment was kinda awkward and slightly intense.

Kaito was just about to speak up once more when Nyx smiled at him and let out a small giggle and replied-

"Skill books? sure, i got skill books! let me get them!"

She turned around and was about to walk away when she suddenly turned once more, doing a full pirouette and again stared right at Kaito.

"Skill books that could be fit for a necromancer, right? how much coin do you have?" she asked him.

Kaito wasn't sure of how to handle such a odd woman so he simply looked at his total currency after receiving the silver from Baldrum and buying some food, getting coins from DarkestBone and giving him a few coins back.

he looked at Nyx and replied

"I have 61 silver on me"

Nyx happily exclaimed-

"Oh! Wealthy!.. for this town at least, i'll be right back!"

Kaito saw her figure disappear into the shop, hopping along, almost knocking over the towering stacks of books on her way.

He waited patiently as the fragrance from the incense got even stronger and he could hear a muffled voice from inside the shop "No, not this one, not this one, Bah! why is this here?"

After a couple of minutes Nyx came back with two books, one in each hand, she handed them both over to Kaito.

"Take a look at these, see if it's anything you'd want"

With those words she turned around and started fixing with books and potions around the shop, cleaning the rugs hanging from the roof and aimlessly dancing around the room.

Kaito was thankful for the space she had given him to look at the skill books.

He picked one up with a black cover, there looked to be a big stain on the front, but as he let his fingers run over the book he felt that it was a print, the stain was a part of the cover.

A window popped up in front of him, giving him information on the ability-

〈Skill Book: Ability - Corruption〉﹀

Cost: 50 mana

Cooldown: 5 minutes

A tar-like substance spreads from the ground under an enemy, slowing them down.

'That'd be really useful, although it costs quite a lot of mana' Kaito thought as he put the book down and looked at the other book Nyx had handed him.

This book looked old, A clear green could be seen as the colour of the front. But from the edges around the cover there was black tendrils of paint slowly overshadowing the green.

Kaito inspected the book closer and a window popped up in front of him-

〈Skill Book: Passive - Dead Don't Rest〉﹀

A passive Aura emanates from you that regenerates the health of your summons when out of battle. (only activate once out of combat)

A low sigh left Kaito as he looked at the books in front of him. He liked them both, they both seemed to be really useful.

'Maybe i can afford both' he thought and looked up to ask Nyx about the prices.

Kaito was startled as he was face to face with Nyx as he raised his head.

She simply smiled and stared at him and Kaito calmed himself before asking-

"How much for these books, both of them?"

Nyx put up a finger to her chin, pouting slightly -

"Hmm, it's more than you can afford sadly" she answered

Before Kaito could answer she quickly added-

"But if you accept a quest from me you can buy them both for 60 silver!"

A mischievous smile was shown on her face

Kaito didn't really know how much a skill book was worth, but he knew that he wanted these two skills added to his arsenal.

He pondered thinking about what kind of quest she would give, if she was trying to trick him, but after a while he gave up, he didn't have enough information about this world.

"Sure thing" he calmly answered.

Nyx shone up and clapped her hands before reaching out one hand towards Kaito.

Kaito immediately understood what she meant and handed her the 60 silvers, then he put the skill books into his inventory.

A slight frown spread across his face as he checked his current wealth

Suddenly Nyx spoke once more -

"Well, now for the quest, you see. While i was picking mushrooms and herbs in the forest i saw a big cave further inside of the woods, and as i walked closer i could see a faint glow coming from inside, i immediately knew that it had to be Moonglow Mushrooms."

'She's probably talking about the Wolf Den Dungeon that i found' Kaito steeled himself for what she would request.

Nyx continued-

"it's a very rare mushroom and i want you to bring me 5 of them, from inside the cave. But i must warn you, i sensed a great beast inside, that's why i myself didn't dare enter the cave..... Good Luck!"

〈New Quest! : Enter the ominous cave deep inside the forest and find 5 Moonglow Mushrooms and give them to Nyx!〉

Kaito smiled at Nyx and turned to face the exit, he started walking towards the door while saying-

"I'll do my best"
