36 Chapter 36: Where there is a merfolk, there is a merhunter

"Does you world have a ship like this?"

"Hah! My world has even better."

"What is it?"

"In my world you can fly!"

"You have tamed dragons?"

"No! There are machines that can do a lot of stuffs."

"What is a machine?"

And so our conversation continues as I fill in her curiosity with details. The topic keeps on changing and suddenly when it turns to family, the conversation dies. My moods become heavier and she doesn't question, giving me a little space and I am greatful.

Minutes pass by in silence and soon the sun sets giving the sky a beautiful shade of orange. We were enjoying the view when suddenly the bell rings. Its time for dinner. They sure eat dinner fast.

***

The man puts the mug on the table with a loud thug and says something. The others surrounding him roar a laugh.

I sip on the soup. They are so loud and noisy. My eardrums are starting to hurt. How is Dabria enduring it.

Uhhh I can't even eat my meal in peace. I try to ignore the voices but they are like stabbing my ears.

I stand up. Picking up the plate, I walk toward the exit. Dabria gives me a questioning look but I know that she knows why I am doing this.

In fact, she knows everything but acts like an innocent child.

I almost exit the room but then something catches my attention.

"We will arrive the middle sea tomorrow. I hope we win the reward."

"Isn't it dangerous?"

"What are you saying to a merhunter? Its our dream to catch a mer alive."

"I heard their scales are priceless."

Merhunters? They haunt merfolks? Don't they have Nerida?

I am clueless. According to the map, Nerida is somewhere is the middle sea but at keeps on moving around.

***

I was so lost in thoughts that I didn't think about the main thing.

There is only one bed and two nets hung to form a hammock. I decide to give the bed to Dabria. Firstly, she is a woman (actually a witch) so she needs more comfort. Secondly... the hummocks look more fun. I am going to have a totally old sea crew vibe.

"You take the bed." Dabria says to me.

"No! You take it."

"You take it."

"You take it."

and the argue continuous till a shadow looms over us.

"Could you let me pass?" a voice grumbles.

We silently stand aside to let the big guy pass. He enters and goes straight to the bed. Within a second, loud snores start to come out of him.

I look at her and she looks at me. Then she shrugs her shoulders and goes over to one hammock.

I just stand there, frozen.

What just happened?
