4 Tug

I felt the tug. There was no denying it. My face went white. I wanted to scream. This can't be happening to me. I knew I wasn't going to reincarnate within a week. But gosh dang it, it felt close. It felt like a dark and stormy rain cloud, towering over me.

I felt it, it appeared to be laughing at me. I felt like it was just a big game of hide and seek. 'You can't hide from me' it seemed to practically sear into my brain. Was this it? My only chance of happiness, soon to be taken? Seized by my job. A job that consists of me simply coming back to life. A job that was meant to help people, yet somehow destroying me? This sounds simply insane.

What a joke. Life is a joke. For the first time in my life, I wished I stayed dead.

Lillie suddenly became silent. She turned to face the wall and stayed frozen in that direction for what seemed like an eternity. Her eyes glossed over and she remained still. Carson felt as though he couldn't breath. Did he say something wrong? Was Lillie in danger?

Thoughts scrambled throughout his brain. They were scurrying in a panic. His mind suddenly in lockdown. He never dealt with a ghost before, what was he supposed to do? Was this merely a normal occurrence, and he just simply unaware?

He approached her with caution, worried something was actually wrong, and gently touched Lillie on the shoulder. Her normal warmth from earlier, from when he touched her cheek, was replaced by a chilling cold. His bones wanted to shiver in place for her.

She slowly turned her head towards him, to look eye to eye with him. His warmth from the palm of his hand seeped into her shoulder. It was like a cold winter suddenly decided to meet with the heat of a fire. She tried to smile, as she sadly said "we won't have long together". This was the most confusing statement that Carson had ever heard.

He was a Software Engineer and designed computer coding, yet this was something so far past unreadable he didn't know what to say. His first thought was that she was dying, but since she's already dead, he ruled that idea out of his head immediately. Then he suddenly realized, she must be going to live again. But what does this mean for the two of them?

A vivid reminder of the chemistry between them was reborn in this very moment. The electricity between a palm of a hand and a shoulder had sparked. It ignited a love for one another. They wanted this feeling more and more.

How could this unwavering feeling be so indescribable?

———

The tug on her quickly became replaced once again by electricity. This jolt was like a shock to her system. It set her ablaze. The same emotion flickering through her eyes, was reflected in the person in front of her. Could they really do something so reckless and quick, without even knowing one another?

But these feelings only come once in a lifetime. Heck a million lifetimes for Lillie. With this thought in mind, they didn't want to tame the flame, but they didn't want to get burned by it either. They decided to respect it. Respect it's complexities and first understand it before they dove straight into it.

They were somehow on such a deep spiritual level, that they in sync stood up, and went upstairs. It was almost as if the puppeteer joined back in just to watch this beautiful moment, and wanted to provide them some encouragement. As they walked into Lillie's bedroom, they jumped right into bed and into each other's arms, and they forgot the whole outside world.

This was because when you share your whole life story with your soulmate, you only focus on them, and solely on them. This is when the romantic puppeteer, angered and frustrated, had to leave.

Because the beautifully perfect romantic moment was wasted in the puppeteers mind. Lillie and Carson didn't care. It was their story, not the puppeteers.

Lillie and Carson talked all night long. When the sun slowly started to rise, almost as if celebrating the two, the birds started to sing a song. It was then that the two pair of eyes that were open the whole night, filled with such emotion, slowly started to close. They peacefully slept, and as they did, they didn't think of anything else besides perfect serenity. This was because, they both dreamt of one another.
