33 Chapter 30 - The First Quest...

'Hmm... How's about I read and then train?'

After a bit of time, I decide to read some of my mental books and then train, but what should I read?

A thought crosses my mind. 'If I'm going to do some quests, it might be a good idea to learn about some monsters that I'll have to hunt...'

After deciding on what to do, I look into my mental books for some books on monsters. The book on mystical creatures might be a good book but a little subjective.

A book crosses my vision, "Monster Index for Adventures."

Yes! This is precisely what I wanted. A little too convenient, but I do have books on everything magic... Wait, are monsters magical?

I flip open the book and read the first page.

'Introduction: Monsters are being created from corrupted magic. When a mage misuse magic or has corrupted thoughts when casting, it creates excess particules called corrupted magic (See Magic Circles Vol.2 for more information on how magic works).'

'Their strength is equivalent to the amount of corrupted magic used when it was created. The demon lord emits this magic excessively and has the power to create such beings at will."

I see. So these 'monsters' are made up of corrupted particules. That explains why I have a book about them.

Okay, lets read about these monsters!

I begin reading.

...

Hours pass before I know it. I blinked, and look outside to see what time it is.

"Oops! It's about time I go to sleep."

I accidentally read the entire book and forgot to train.

The book was exciting. It contained thousands of monsters. It explained where to find them and how to defeat them.

Some interesting ones were called 'Leers.' Leers were small beasts that use magic to capture their prey and use poison to kill them. Since they're small and move slowly, they can be easily defeated using ranged magic.

One hobby I had in my old world was reading the bio of monsters in RPG games. I always found them interesting and wanted to do my research on them to find their weakness and rare drops.

'Tomorrow is going to be fun!'

I smiled and went to bed, thinking about the guild...

...

It is now morning... I get up and teleport outside to see the time.

'Huh... I bet they're not open yet, so I'll train in the meantime.'

I start my typical training regiment.

After a couple of hours, I deemed that it was time to leave. I washed in the lake and then teleported to the town where the guild is.

I walked to the guild and entered it. Once I have entered the room, I notice that the female at the desk is different from the one yesterday.

I walk up to her.

"Oh, hello! Are you here to apply for a guild's card?"

"Kinda? I took the tests yesterday, so I'm here to pick up my guild's card from Naoki."

She looks at me funny. "Naoki? Who's that? Is he an adventurer or an employee? Only the guild master can issue the guild's card."

I blink. She works here but doesn't know the guild master name?

"Nevermind... I came to see the guild master."

"Okay, sure thing... Hold on one moment."

She gets up from her seat and walks to Naoki's office. She knocks and then enters the room. After a bit of time, she comes back.

"He is expecting you. You may enter the guild master's office."

I bow to the lady and enter Naoki's office.

"Ah, Akuma. Welcome back. Here is your guild's card!"

He hands me a card that shows my name, picture, and rank.

"Thanks!"

I grab the card, leaving out the fact that his employees don't know his name.

"Starting today, you can start questing. Have fun out there!"

I smile and bow to him.

After saying my thanks, I leave his room and walk to the quest boards.

'Let's see... What should be my first quest?'

I look at the quest board, looking at all the quests.

The board itself is made up of quadrants. The background of the board shows what rank can do the quest. I wanted to start on a silver quest, so I look at the silver board.

The board has lots of quest pin onto it. One quest catches my eye.

'Silver 1 - Hunt and bring back ten leers. Reward: 5 silver coins'

I disregard the money since I don't need it and look at the objective. 'Huh, I know about those monsters. They also live in my forest, so it should be fairly simple!'

I grabbed the quest from the board and brought it to the female to is back at her desk.

"Hello, again! I like to take this quest."

She grabs the piece of paper that I'm holding. Her eyes widen.

"Okay... I think it is a bit much for your first quest. Can I see your guild's card?"

"Sure thing."

I hand her my guild's card. She takes it and looks it over. Her eyes widen even more.

"Oh, sorry! I thought you were a lower ranking. Please forgive me..."

"It's okay. Can I start?"

"Yeah..."

I smile at her, retaking the quest and my card. I left the room and moved to a back ally to teleport home.

After teleporting home, I begin the quest.

"Okay, let's go!"

I left my cave and walked to the outskirts of the forest.

After 30 minutes of walking, I finally found a group of leers. They looked exactly as that book says.

I stand 10 meters away from them and cast magic at them. "[Firebal]!"

I shot fireballs at them, each exploding on impact. I reduce the power I cast so that the body doesn't degrade or explode.

After seeing that each was dead, I walk to their bodies.

I look around, making sure there were no survivors. Then, I grab the monsters.

'Eight, huh... Need two more.'

I cast search magic to see if I could find more. After casting, I could feel the presence of them a kilometer away.

I dash to their location.

After five minutes, I found a hen of them. I only need two of them so I teleported two of them to me.

After teleportation, the leers look confused. I cast [fireball] leaving them no time to react.

After finishing them, I grab the two and teleport back to the town and walk to the guild.

I enter the guild and walk to the female.

"I finished!"

I lay the dead monsters on her desk.

"Impressive... It took you less than an hour to finish this quest. Are you sure your a silver 1?"

"Yeah?"

I look at her blankly.

"Okay... Let me see your guild's card.

I hand her my card. She grabs it and moves the monsters into a sack.

She cast magic onto the card and then returns it.

"Here you go. Based on your timing and efficiency, you will be able to rank up with one more quest!"

"That easy, huh?"

"Well, ranking up depends on how many quests the user takes and how fast or efficient they are on the quests. Oh, Let me grab your reward."

She walks about to grab my reward.

"Here is five silver coins. Thanks for your help!"

She smiles at me. I grab the coins and smile back. Then I walk back to the board.

'Easy first quest! What quest should I do now?'
