4 Chapter 3 - Books on Magic...

"Yawn!"

Ah, my second day in another world. I got up off the ground and stretch. Then I walk out of the cave and look up at the sky.

Judging from the sky, it's around five in the morning. Okay, what should I do first today? Oh, I wanted to try and fly! Let's see...

Yesterday, all I had to do was to think of the place I wanted to teleport to and cast the chant. How will this work? Maybe all I have to do is cast the incantation?

I walk to an open space and say out loud a chant. "[Fly]!"

...

Nothing happened. Well, that figures. I guess it wouldn't be that easy. Hmm, maybe if I think about flying and then cast the chant? Worth a shot.

I try to cast the spell again, but this time I clearly picture myself flying in the air.

"[Fly]!"

This time, a Magic circle forms underneath me and turns. After turning, it disappears. I mentally tell my body to move up, which it does. I'm flying!

Right now, I'm about five meters above the ground. I try to move forward and backward. Then I try to fly up and down. It's surprisingly easy. After testing it out for a bit, I try to speed up. I shoot in the air in circles, gradually increasing the speed until I hit a max of 800 kilometers per hour. After a bit, I land back at the front of the cave.

Nice, I can fly now! Now, what should I do? Maybe I should teleport some more...

Right as I thought this, my stomach interrupts me. Oh! I guess food is still something I need, but how do I get some? I look around my surroundings. Hmm... I haven't seen an anime since the beginning of my first day. Wait, fish is food!

I walk towards the lake. As I step to it, all the aquatic creatures fled to the other side. Figures... It is not going to be easy to catch fish either. There are no fishing poles or tools to scoop them up. Oh! There is Magic. The only problem is that I don't know how to cast real Magic.

Teleportation and flying were skills I ask for. I doubt Magic works as they do. Hmm... What should I do now? Oh, wait! Didn't I ask for mental books about all things Magic? I wonder if there's a book on how magic works? Let's see.

Well, I first need to figure out how to access these books. I close my eyes and think about a library. Yeah, this isn't working. Maybe a chant will work?

I close my eyes again and say a chant. "[Library]!"

Suddenly thousands of books appear in my head. It feels like a GUI from a game. At the top, it shows the total amount of books I have.

Huh? There are 85,000 books in here?! How many things on Magic are in this world? Please don't tell me that there is a book on each spell or something like that. At least there is a search bar to help me find specific books.

I mentally type out 'How to use magic.'

After typing this, a thousand books remained on the GUI. The top book is called "Beginning Magic."

Guess that'll work. I call out the book in my head, which opens like a digital book that can get on the PC. I begin reading it. A few passages catch my attention.

'Magic requires the use of mana, which is also defined as a mage's magic capacity. To cast a spell, the mage must have an equal or greater amount of mana than what the spell needs. If the mage doesn't have enough mana, the mana turns into excess Magic and the spell breaks.'

'To cast a spell, the mage must think about the spell they wish to use and then say the spell's incantation. The clearer you imagine the spell, the better the spell will be. Once you chant, a magic circle will appear to summon Magic.'

Okay, it should be simple enough. I open my eyes, which stops the spell. I look back at the lake and search for some fish. After spotting one, I held my hands out at it.

I picture in my mind of a fireball; then I try to cast a spell. "[Fireball]!"

...

Nothing happens. Why didn't that work? Oh, it does say that the more clearly I picture, the better the spell will be. Let's try again.

This time, I picture a ball. Then, I imagine flames on the ball with sparks flying off of it. After imagining the flaming ball, I cast the spell. "[Fireball]!"

As I cast the spell, a magic circle appears at my hand. Then, a flaming ball about the size of a basketball spawns from the circle. I aim at the fish and throw the fireball at it.

The fireball flies in the air toward the fish; however, the fireball explodes when it touches the water surface. On impact, flames scattered everywhere, with smoke drifting off the water.

Well, it works, but my attack failed. Wait... Shit, I'm so dumb! Why would fire intercept water? Well, at least the spell worked, but what do I do for food?

After thinking this, I realize that I'm not hungry anymore. Then I notice small particles in the air coming towards me. It seems like I'm absorbing these particles. Oh, I guess I'm eating these particules. Well, that solves the food issue.

Well, now what should I do?

"!"

Huh? What's that? I could sense someone's presence coming this way. It seems to be coming from that elf village. I wonder if it's one of the elves from yesterday. Let's see!

"[Teleport]!"

I teleport near the town since they might see me flying toward them...

** Endo Ken's Point of View **

I just left Elvania and am on my way to the center of the Blue Devil's den. The path isn't challenging since there are only low-level monsters nearby. All the high-level monsters stick to the perimeter of the forest due to our barrier magic.

After pushing through trees and monsters, I was close enough to the center to see his cave. I stand behind a tree, watching the cave's entrance. I instantly froze while I look at it. Do I dare to enter it? My body is already trembling...

"Um... Hello? What might you be doing out here?"

I jump from hearing a voice behind me. I hesitantly turn my head to see who said something. What I saw made my eyes widen and skin crawl. I couldn't move my body...

A human-looking creature with blue hair is standing in front of me. No way... It's the Blue Devil! He really does exist...
