14 Chapter 13 - Bonuses and Weaknesses...

"Hello, class! We have two new announcements."

She looks my way and smiles at me. I guess that means she forgives us for what happened yesterday...

"First, we have a transfer student. Please stand and introduce yourself."

I stood up on command and began my introduction.

"Hello, my name is Imai Akuma. Nice to meet everyone."

I bow after my little speech.

"Very nice. Nice to meet you too, Akuma. Now, for the 2nd announcement... We will have an assistant teacher in this class. Please come in."

At her command, a familiar face enters the room. Everyone, excluding Tomo, reacted.

"No way! It's Endo!"

"I get to be in the same class as Endo!"

"H-he's... So hot! You think he'll marry me?"

"Hello, everyone. I'll be your assistant teacher. Call me, Mr. Endo."

Ken stared at me. I smile and wave, but he just smiles back.

"Okay. Now with the announcements out of the way. We will now begin the class. Today, with the help of Mr. Endo, will be appraising everyone's magic bonuses and weaknesses. While I prepare the equipment, Mr. Endo will explain what bonuses and weaknesses are."

The teacher nods to Ken as she moves out of the center. Ken walks in her place and begins explaining.

"Yes... Okay, so magic bonuses are the magic types that you excel at. Magical weaknesses are the types of spells that you are bad at. Each person is different. Therefore, everyone will most likely have different bonuses and weaknesses. Now, you might be able to tell someone's weakness based on their bonus and vice versa, but there are some exceptions.

"Having bonuses mean that you can learn that type's spell about 4x faster than normal types. Weaknesses are special since those type's spell takes ten times longer to learn. Because of this, magicians usually just learn and master their bonuses and some normal types. They don't bother learning their weaknesses."

"Let's see... Typically, the average magician has one or two bonuses and one or two weaknesses. For instance, I have three bonuses and three weaknesses, which is above average. I have bonuses in fire-type, wind-type, and space-type. My shortcomings are water-type, ground-type, and null-type.

"What your teacher is preparing is the equipment that testes each person's bonuses and weaknesses. It's a sphere that could's magical particles. We call these items that hold magic particules VOIDs..."

As Ken finishes his explanation, the teacher returns with a bright shiny sphere, which is a type of VOID. I could see an immense amount of magical particules hanging around the sphere.

"Okay, just as Mr. Endo explained, we will see what your bonuses and weaknesses are. We'll go by desk order."

The teacher looks at the person who is in the top left seat. He nods and gets up. Then, he moves up to the sphere. Ken moves away from the sphere and goes to the side of the room.

"Okay, please move your hands on the sphere and send your mana into it."

He boy nods to the teacher and does as instructed. A moment later, the sphere shines into different colors.

"You have one bonus and one weakness. They are fire and water. Good job."

The boy bows and then returns to his desk. The person to the right of him gets up and does the same procedures as the first person. This occurred for another 30 minutes until it was Tomo's turn.

Tomo gets up and walks to the sphere. I could hear the other students murmur as she walks up.

"Uh, oh... It's the demon turn."

"What to bet that she explodes the ball?"

"Huh? It's the losers turn? Meh, wake me up afterward..."

I ignore these comments and watch as Tomo inserts her mana into the VOID. It reacts with brighter colors than the other students.

"Interesting, Tomo! You have five bonuses and four weaknesses. This is outstandingly rare! Let's see... You have water-type, earth-type, wind-type, dark-type, and null-type as bonuses. You have extra-type, fire-type, light-type, and space-type has weaknesses. Very impressive!"

Every time some were finished, everyone would clap for them, but no one did this time. Well, almost no one. I was the only was who was clapping for Tomo. Ken noticed, too, and started clapping as well.

When Tomo returned to her seat, I smile at her.

"Nice job!"

"You'll... do... better."

"I don't know if I can do better than that..."

After whispering to Tomo, I got up and moved over to the VOID. I place my hand and insert my mana into it. Unlike Tomo's or the others, it only shows pitch blackness.

Does this mean I have nothing? That's a bit sad, I must say, but the teacher's eyes tell me a different story.

"N-no way!"

Ken reacted once he notices her reaction. He hurries and moves to the sphere. His eyes widen, just like the teacher's eyes.

"H-how?!"

I sit there with a blank expression.

"Umm... What's wrong?"

"Huh? Oh, nothing is wrong... It is just dumbfounding. Let's see... You have two bonuses and no weaknesses..."

Oh, so I do have something, but I haven't seen a bonus that is pitch black. Ken starts talking.

"I can explain. Akuma, you have extra-type and null-type bonuses. Null-type and Extra-type are the rarest types. I mean, no one in this class has either type as a bonus. Extra-type is the rarest type. Almost no one has it as a bonus. Those who do, that's is their only bonus. They also have every other type as a weakness.

"You, on the other hand, have extra-type and null-type as bonuses with no weaknesses. This is the first time I heard of someone having a bonus but no weaknesses. It practically impossible for one to have zero weaknesses..."

Oh, so I have two of the rarest types and no weaknesses. I guess that means I'm good. I'm not sure anymore. I still think Tomo's abilities are better than this...

After the teacher and Ken regains their composers, they motion me to return to my desk. Tomo was the only one who clapped for me as I walk. Once seated, I turn to Tomo and thank her.

After a minute, the teacher begins talking to the class.

"Ahem... Okay, we have an hour left before lunch. Till then, we will be going over some theories. Please get out note-taking material. Let's begin."
