No Mana

It was about noon but because the clouds were covering the sky it was relatively cool.

'Uhh... I am so bored.' Artz thought to himself as he was laying on his baby bed. 'It's already been 2 months since I was born in this world but nothing special is happening. I am starting to run out of things to analyse in here.'

[Analysis Complete ]

[Ding !]

[Skill: Analysis has been upgraded to level (C).]

'Finally...Wait Analysis was upgraded not Ariel.'

[Yes. Though it is under me but it still is a separate skill.]

'Oh, so it's like that. Hmm..'

"Hyaah.." Suddenly I heard a voice outside. I could see what was the source of that sound. It was my dad, everyday he come here at the same time to practice his sword techniques.

'Ariel, can we analyse skills now.'

[Yes.]

'Analyse my dad's sword skills.' I said.

[Analysing.]

'Oh, it is analysing.' I said with a smile on my face. And just like that half an hour was gone.

[Analysis Complete.

Skill : Swordsmanship (D) is acquired. ]

'D? Does my father have a low level skill. But it does not look like it.' I said as I closed my eyes and tilted my head.

[If level of the skill which is being analysed is greater than Analyse skill itself, it cannot be analysed . And only inferior version of the skill can be acquired if the skill level is equal to the analyse skill level. ]

'Right now Analyse is C level so no B, A or S level skills can be analysed. Since only equal or lower level skill can be analysed that means at most my father possess C level in Swordsmanship. Right? '

[Yes.]

'Man, talk about complicated.*sigh* ' I said while looking at the sky. 'Then let's start the grinding again'

Days passed, months passed and finally a whole year passed. It was not that much but I acquired 2 new skills and upgraded the existing ones.

First one is-

[Skill : Meditation acquired.

Skill allows user to increase the mana regeneration speed depending on skill level. Skill restrict the user's thought process upon activation. ]

It was a useful skill but I wasn't even using mana to begin with. And the second one was-

[Skill : Concentration acquired.

Allows the user to concentrate to a specific task, increasing efficiency. ]

Ariel and Parallel Processing both were upgraded to C level.

"Do you want any gifts for tomorrow? " my mom said as she was looking at me.

"A book." I said while couldn't say full sentence I could say words in parts. I have never seen the writing of this world and I also want to conduct some "experiments".

Tomorrow is my birthday and it very important to parents in this world because many children die before reaching the age of 1 year. It is a way for parents to know that the baby is healthy. They certainly did not make much progress on medical science over here. Well I think they have magic but I haven't seen anyone doing any migical stuff. Maybe it's rare.

"A book.. Sure. Anything for my little Artz." My mother said while picking me up. "Let's go for a walk outside."

The town we are living in is called Konako village. All people in the town call it a "village" but it really is a town. There is a blacksmith's shop, book stores, some clothing stores, 2 inns, and many restaurants. Just outside of the main area there are fields. Many people in this town work on the fields as farmers, some as guards. My father is the captain of the soldiers which guard the town. There is also an Adventure's Guild which I am planning to join later. Maybe I can level up my skills more.

"Taking Artz out on walk again?" an old man in his late seventies on sidewalk said.

"Yes, Mr. Gabriel. We were actually going to your shop." Mom said.

Mr. Gabriel is the owner of a bookstore in the town called "Gabriel's Bookstore". He is a nice single old man. Because he owns a bookstore and never got married, he earned the title "The wise old man" . Which I find hilarious. But he is a kind hearted man.

"Oh! I was heading there myself." said Mr. Gabriel. "Care to join me on the walk."

Mr. Gabriel's shop was just across the street so it wasn't that long of a walk, about 3 minutes later we were standing in front of the shop. Mr. Gabriel took out a key and put it in the keyhole without turning it but the door unlocked itself. 'Magic? Or something mechanical.' I thought.

" So what brings you to my shop today?" said Mr. Gabriel.

"We were planning to buy a book for Artz. Can you suggest any?" mom said.

"For Artz?" He looked at me. "Hmm.. I guess something basic would be good. Oh did you had an aptitude check?"

"No we haven't. " mom said. " Well you can do that here."

"Oh sure. Wait a minute here." he said as he walked to a room on the back.

"Apti-tude?" I asked my mom.

"It is a test to check whether or not an individual possess mana or not. You will understand once you grow older." Mom said

'So not all people possess mana in this world.' I thought. 'Well atleast I know I posses mana because of Ariel.'

A little bit later Mr. Gabriel walk out with a crystal ball in his hand and said "Here you go. Just put his hand on the ball and we should be good to go."

I know I posses mana but I was a bit excited to see what will happen. So I looked at my mom for a second and then put my hand on the crystal ball.

'....'

Nothing happens.

"I think Artz does not possess mana." said Mr. Gabriel.

'Wait what does that suppose to mean, I do possess mana.'

' Ariel status.' I said as I did not understand what was happening.

[Yes.]
