271 Just Dropping By

On the day of the mission, Adam and his comrades entered a strange room. Within it were several human sized slots built into the walls.

"Step in." [Bob]

Following his command, all three entered separate slots.

"Sync your watches." [Bob]

The three began to fiddle with their watches as some kind of door slid over the slot, locking them in.

"Launch will begin in ten seconds." [Bob]

Now on the other side of the door, the three could hear his voice through their helmet.

"Everyone ready?" [Adam]

"Ready as I'll ever be." [Brandon]

"I hope I didn't forget anything…" [Sora]

Within that short exchange, ten seconds passed.

"Launching." [Bob]

The ground trembled, or rather, the slots trembled. There were the sounds of what Adam thought to be an engine roaring.

("Here we go.") [Adam]

Suddenly, the feeling of gravity placed itself on his shoulders. It felt like his stomach dropped, causing him to grit his teeth to bear the feeling.

"Ohhh I'm feeling weird." [Brandon]

Adam placed his hand against the door, feeling for something. At some point, he found a small handle.

("This must be it.") [Adam]

He grasped the handle and pushed to the side, revealing a small window for him to peer outside.

("...Wow.") [Adam]

High in the sky they were. It appeared they were in some sort of metal pod being driven by flaming thrusters.

"Guys, there's a window you can look through." [Adam]

"What? Where?" [Brandon]

"Hey, I found it!" [Sora]

Adam could see the other pods slide open their own little windows, allowing them to wave at each other.

"You know, I was surprised when Bob told us we were going to be sent to the skyscraper through a pod." [Brandon]

"It's called a H.P.C." [Sora]

"...I still don't know what that stands for." [Brandon]

"Human Projectile Carrier. Invented by Silvers Industry." [Sora]

"Whoever thought of this must be really crazy." [Brandon]

Somewhere far away…

"ACHOO!" [Mr. Frank]

Rubbing his nose, Mr. Frank whispered to himself.

"Allergies? It's not even spring yet…" [Mr. Frank]

Back within the pods, Adam's watch began to flicker.

"Guys, landing in thirty seconds." [Adam]

"I got it. Sora, you have access to the on-site explosives, right?" [Brandon]

"I do. Armed and ready." [Sora]

They waited patiently as an overgrown city came into view.

"Hey… Anyone think that there's way more voidlings down there than before?" [Brandon]

"Bob. Are the readings correct?" [Adam]

He spoke into his radio, but received no reply.

"I think we're cut off from base." [Adam]

"Seriously?!" [Brandon]

"Don't worry. We'll just do as we were told earlier. Five minutes. No more, no less. If things get dicey, we'll retreat." [Adam]

"Reasonable enough." [Sora]

What was once a peaceful flight turned into a violent landing. The pods plummeted into a swarm of voidlings, releasing an incredible amount of fire to clear the area.

"Fire turns off in three!" [Adam]

"Got it!" [Brandon]

Checking what they had in such little time, they kicked open their pod doors when the fire vanished.

"Clear!" [Brandon]

"Clear!" [Sora]

Adam swung his head around and found that every voidling in the vicinity was incinerated. Of course, there were others that lingered, but they were far and only watched with fearful eyes.

"Also clear! Make some noise! We need to distract them for five minutes!" [Adam]

"Setting off explosives!" [Sora]

With a press on his watch, the ground shook as groups of voidlings were sent flying. If not for the brightness of the explosions, the voidlings would've blotted out the sun's light from the sheer number.

"That should've gotten their attention." [Sora]

They looked towards the sky scraper, in which swarms of voidlings began to crawl out.

"...Yep, you definitely made them mad." [Brandon]

Adam raised a hand, causing thunder clouds to form.

"Balance the scales, Krino." [Adam]

A bolt of lightning dropped into Adam's palm, leaving a golden ornate sword in his grasp.

"Well then, boys. We have a job to do." [Adam]
