2 CHAPTER 1.

•CATHANA•

I sighed as I stepped out of the bus, carrying two big shopping bags on both my arms. I was walking down the dimm'd alley as I usually do when walking back home.

"Jie!!!" (Sis!) said the children in glee as they saw me came out from the dark alley.

Obviously they were waiting for me as what they usually do.

"Hey, you waited for me here again I told you to stay inside the apartment when it's dark" I nagged at them.

LiangLiang took one of the shopping bag from my hand, he's the eldest amongst them.

"Jie, we were bored inside the apartment so we went out, gladly we did...if not we wouldn't meet him" LiangLiang said and looked at infront of us. I looked at where he was looking and there I saw a man.

He was rather dirty, I'd say. His hair is a mess, his clothes were torn and ripped in different places.

"Who is he?" I asked.

LiangLiang shrugged and with pity in the depths of his eyes he looked at the poor man.

"We don't know, when we asked him he acted strangely. It's like he doesn't know a single thing about who he is. We saw him earlier wandering around the grocery store and bumped into some hoodlums. We helped him out by calling the security guard. Jie...he looks pittyful" He said and looked at me.

I smiled at him and patted his head. "You did the right thing." I said.

"Jiejie, can we take him to our house?" ChangChang-the youngest- asked innocently. as he hugs my leg.

I looked at her in an apologetic way.

"No ChangChang we can't" I said.

"Why?" she asked.

"Because we don't know him" I said.

"But you took us in without knowing who we are jie" A-Feng intervened. Pointing out the fact that I have took them in for they are homeless children without a family to rely on.

"Because I can surely say you are good children" I said.

"But tonight's gonna be raining jiejie I watched it on the news, if we let him outside he might get sick or worst those bad people would pick on him once again" Xiao Xiang said as she looked at the man who looks rather scared of us as he tries to hide himself in the dark.

Four set of eyes looked at me with begging eyes, and I just can't help but to sigh in defeat and smiled as I nodded.

"YEEEEES!" they all shouted in glee.

"But only for tonight, ok? Tomorrow we'll bring him to the police station to ask for their assistance." I said and they all nodded.

They went happily to the man who was scared at first but gradually stepped out of the dark with them.

We all went inside the apartment, together. I was silently observing that guy as the children happily talked and played with him. I better get to know him well, not to judge or anything but...nowadays it's hard to trust anyone besides children.

I know, since I was once a police officer.
