1 •Chapter 1- Maurice Dawson

Maurice's POV

It was the 24th of October and here I am, wrapping a ribbon on a box of cake. Today is an exciting day for me as I knew that today is his birthday. After preparing the cake, I took a warm bath and changed into my clothes. I looked in the mirror two times before I went out of my house and head to the place where we planned to meet up.

It was a really cold day so I decided to wear a thick jacket. People were wearing it as well but most of them would wear black, grey, or brown ones. Me, however wore a red one. I don't want to look withered in his birthday, of course.

I arrived at Lucky Cat Café and saw that only a few people were there. Mrs. Brown, the owner of the café stopped with her work and looked at me with a smile on her face. She went towards me, with a tray on her hand.

"Hey there sweetie. I haven't seen you in a long time. How have you been?" She asked as she lead me to my table.

I smiled. "Oh I'm fine. I still have a tight schedule though."

Yeah. I really have a tight schedule these days as I am writing a novel, recording my covers and drawing some Fairy Tail or anime fanarts. Oh well, I am a high schooler after all.

Mrs. Brown nods in agreement. "Well, you are a high schooler after all and besides, your school is known for giving the hardest projects." How did she read my mind?

And yes, Falcon High gives the hardest projects.

I sat on my seat as Mrs. Brown handed me a blueberry cupcake. "So, are you going to order or....?"

I place the box of cake in the table and gave Mrs. Brown a cheerful look. "Oh it's fine. I'm still waiting for someone actually. But, I think I'll have a mocha frappe."

She nods and went to the counter to prepare my order. It has been 20 minutes and he isn't here yet. Where is he...?

Don't worry, Maurice. He is just stuck in  traffic.

I kept on reassuring myself. My mocha frappe came and sadly, he is still not here. After 5 more minutes, I saw his car coming but it took him a minute to get out of it. Strange...

Ciel came inside and had a cheerful face once he saw me. He came to me and hugged me but something seems to be off. He is using a different perfume.

Chill Maurice, it is just perfume. Chill!

He let go of the hug and sat across from me. He ordered himself a cup of brewed coffee. While waiting, he noticed the box in front of him. He asked. "What is this?"

I smiled and looked at his eyes. "Well... Happy Birthday. I made a cake for you earlier. Open it. Hehe."

He had a shocked look on his face but he decided to open the box which revealed a home-made red velvet cake. "Thank you so much Maurice. I appreciate this."

I smiled again. "You're welcome, Ciel."

After that, we had another convo for 5 minutes. It was an interesting talk but it feels strange. While sipping his coffee, he would look at his car and then at me again. A few more minutes later, his phone beeped. Hmm...

His smile disappeared. "I'm sorry Maurice, but I have to go. Oh and here's a letter by the way."

I felt really flattered as he took out the letter. It was in a red envelope. "But, it's your birthday. You aren't supposed to give me anything."

He rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, I have a lot of things to say but, I really have to go. Just read that letter. Goodbye." He said, took the cake and left. I felt happy with a mix of being upset.

I sighed and took a sip from my mocha frappe. Hmm... I wonder what he meant by 'a lot of things to say'? Oh well, I better read this then.

I opened the letter and I saw that it had a lot of things to say. I was really happy at first but as I read the letter more, I became devastated... It was a letter for our breakup.

Dear Maurice,

Okay, first of all, thank you for your efforts and thanks for accepting my love. But sadly, we now have to part ways as I found someone who is more 'suitable' to understand our family business. I'm sure that you will find a better guy than me who will surely treat you like his princess. I'm sorry but I really have to do this. Dad's orders.

- Ciel

After reading the letter, a tear slid down on my cheeks. What a coward! I knew it. I knew that one of these days, he would ask me for a damn breakup. Jeez, I hate feeling like this.

I hate the feeling of rejection.

I hate the feeling of being left out.

I hate the feeling of pain.

With that, I wiped my tears and head home. Upon entering the house, the smell of fried chicken approached me. Oh well, I guess food can take my mind away from him. I heard someone screaming and that someone went down the stairs like a crazy person. It was my cousin, Nicole.

"Hey, you wouldn't believe what I just saw but BlackPink will be having a concert here next month!" She exclaimed as she saw me her phone.

I smiled as I pretend that I didn't just cry earlier. "Oh really... Do you want to go?" I asked jokingly.

Her face saddened. "You know that we both can't go. The ticket's already sold out!" She blurted out.

I chuckled. "You know what, let's just eat dinner."

After dinner, I immediately went upstairs and lazily plopped on my bed. Today is such a long day. I looked at the ceiling and a few minutes later, I cried. It was too painful... I felt like, I can't bear the pain. I felt like, I was in hell.

I went to my desk wherein I looked at my art supplies. I looked at the scissors and sighed. I slid it on my skin and I almost screamed because of the unbearable pain. But in my opinion, emotional pain is more painful than physical pain. I placed the scissors back into its place and watched the blood dripping from my arm. I smiled.

"I will never love a person again." I said.
