2 greetings And general conversation

~today we gonna learn how to introduce ourselves and how to greet someone in formal and informal way. (If you don't know the hanguls you should revisit and practice more)

1.greetings:

*There is many ways to say hello and goodbye in formal and informal ways but I'll show you some of them that you should know.

-Formal way of greeting:

•안영허세요-hello

•안녕히 가세요- good bye

•다음에 뵙겠습니다- see you next time

•내일 뵙겠습니다-see you

-Informal way of greeting:

•안영-hello/bye

•찰 가-bye

•다음에 봐-see you next time

•내일 뵈-see you

(Q)When should you use formal and when informal way?

-The formal way we use it when we talk with people older than you, your teacher, your boss and people that you don't know.

-The informal way we use it to greet younger people than you and your friends.

*(입니다- ㅂ sounds like b "ibnida")

2. General conversations:

(Q)how to ask someone's name?

•이름 means name

•입니다 means to be

•이름이 뭐에요? Means what's your name (formal)

•이름이 뭐야? What's your name (informal)

-(formal and informal):

•안영. 이름이 뭐야?-Hello. What's your name (informal)

•안영허세요. 이름이 뭐에요?- Hello. What's your name (formal)

-(formal and informal):

•찰 가! 다음에 뵈!-bye! See you next time! (Informal)

•안녕히 가세요! 다음에 뵙겠습니다!- good bye! See you next time (formal)

(Q) how to say my name is?

-We can use 나는/저는/내가 which means "I"but when you watch for example k-drama and the character introduces themselves they don't use 나는/저는 most of the time. (What's your favourite k-drama? Mine are true beauty, my strange hero and strong woman do bong soon). We can use 저/내. 저 is formal way to say I and 내 informal way to say I.

-. For example:

•저 이름은 "엠아" 입니다- my name is "Emma" (formal)

•내 이름은 "엠아" 이에요/에요- my name is "Emma" (informal)

•저 이름이 ____ 입니다 (formal)

•내 이름이 _____ 이에요/에요 (informal)

*you can do it in short way. (You take 저 이름이 or 내 이름이 away) You put your name firs and is (to be) at the end.

•엠아 입니다 (formal)

•엠아 이에요/에요 (informal)

(Q) how to say how are you?

Formal ways:

•잘 지내셨어요- have you spent your time well(formal)- you can answer with 네/안녕 (yes/no)

•잘-well

•어떻게?- How?

•어떻게 지내셨어요?- (This question is more similar to "how have you been? And it's great question to ask after you greet someone)

•지냈어요 = to spend time or live (standard past tense)

*If you're unsure as to whether or not to use the informal, ask the other person if it's ok to use 반말 , which is the word for informal Korean.

Informal way to say how are you:

•잘 지냈어

•If you meet a close friend who you haven't seen in a while, ask "잘 지냈어!

•잘 -well

•있었어 -to be

•어떻게 지냈어?

•어떻게-how

•지냈어 -to spend time or live

*(in formal) we mostly use the 잘 지냈어요? To ask a person how are they.

(Q) how to say I'm fine/ not fine?

I'm fine (formal)

• 저는 잘 지내요- I'm fine thanks (you can leave 저는 and it will be 잘 지내요)

•지내요- fine

잘 지냈지 못했어요.- I'm not fine, thanks.

(Q) how to say I'm sorry?

-Formal way:

•미안합니다

•죄송합니다

-Informal way:

•미안해요

•미안해

(Q)how to say can you give me _____?

•______ 주세요!

~I'll give you some examples:

-When you want to order something you say the word what you want. The item then give me please:

•Please give me the Menu-메뉴 주세요!

•Please give me the Apple-사과 주세요!

•please give me the child- 아이 주세요!

(Formal way)

•한국어 조금 할 수 있어요- I can speak little Korean.

•한국어 못해요-I can't speak Korean

(Q) how to say excuse me?

-Formal way:

•실례합니다 (is used to get someone's attention in polite/formal way)

-Example: 실례합니다, 혹시 화장실 어딘지 아세요? -Excuse me, do you happen to know where the bathroom is?

•잠깐만요 and 잠시만요 are used as "wait a momen" but sometimes used as "excuse me". You can use it to tell a person to move from your way.(formal)

•잠시만요

-If you want to use these kinds of words, follow the usage guide below:

•이모- older woman who you are close to

•누나 - nuna slightly older woman (used by males)

•언니 -slightly older woman (used by females)

•아줌마 - older woman

•아저씨 -older man

•사장님 -boss / shop owner

•오빠- older brother (used by younger women)

-when you ask someone for example bus driver:

•아저씨, 문 열어 주세요?- bus driver, can you open the door please?

Impolite way of saying excuse me:

•잠깐만!

•잠시만!

•In situations where you could potentially replace excuse me with 'sorry', then you can say '죄송합니다.

*Sorry can be used in situations when you need to ask for a favor (asking for a picture to be taken) and would most likely be translated as "excuse me" in these situations.

*There are many different ways of saying 'excuse me'. The best way to learn how to say 'excuse me' in Korean correctly is to listen and observe how Koreans use these words. Then try to copy them.
