32 First Update

About 5 hours into the walk to Stonewall city, the group's conversation was interrupted by a system message.

Ding!

[World Announcement: Player: Renesmee has become the tenth player to clear the Tutorial Dungeon]

The announcement was played five times just like usual, but after that announcement came another that would be the start of a massive uproar in the world.

Ding!

[As 10 players have now entered the real world of Legends Reborn Online, we will now be conducting the first system update. Starting in 2 hours the game will be offline for 48 hours. A sneak peak of the change list will be released on the forums once the game goes down.]

"What do you think the update will be about?" Enzo asked his friends.

"I'm not sure to be honest, but I am excited!" Juliet said.

"Same." Vincent said.

Ivan was lost in his own thoughts so he didn't answer.

The update announcement then played another nine times before it stopped.

~

"Alright, I will try to remember your number and add you to our group chat Vincent." Enzo told him.

The group was about to log off as their time was coming to an end.

They all decided to stay up for another hour after logging on to read the update change list and discuss it before taking long needed sleeps.

All four of them had been taking 4 hour naps since the game came out, which was starting to weigh on them. While the game put the body in a sleep-like state, the brain was still very much active. The brain being active made the players still feel a sense of tiredness even though their bodies hadn't been moving. There was also the problem of their muscles being dormant for up to 16 hours. There was nothing the headgear did to help this, so while it may not be that big of a deal now, it would turn into a big issue later on.

"Alright." Vincent said while nodding his head.

The group then logged out while 20 feet away from the large gates of Stonewall city.

There was no use trying to get in the city first. There was a long line that stretched for at least a mile, that wrapped around the walls of the city to get in.

There were also people coming out, but it wasn't nearly as much as the people trying to get in.

It would have taken at least an hour just to get in, so the group decided to not even try.

Enzo pressed the button on his headgear to lift off the face mask, and slid it off his head.

It took him a minute to get used to walking in the real world after he stood up, but once he was ready he took the headgear, placed it on the floor, and plugged the charger in.

"Sigh. I'll see you in 49 hours buddy." Enzo mumbled to the inanimate object that couldn't talk back.

Enzo and Ivan met up in the kitchen as usual and cooked another frozen pizza to eat while they waited for the update sneak peak that was promised in the game.

They didn't have to share their experiences today because they were finally together in the game, so it was quiet other than the sound of the TV.

"Turn it to the game news channel." Enzo told Ivan.

Ivan stopped watching the show he put on and changed it.

"-e actually have been given the change list for the new update early by Extant Company. We will now read it and discuss."

'Looks like we were just in time.'

There was no announcement that the game news channel would get the update list early, so Enzo was glad he decided to change it to that channel on a whim.

He then texted the group chat.

[Juliet and Vincent change the channel to the game news station. They have the update list early.]

Enzo then put his phone down and focused on the news anchor.

"There is only one change written on the list we have been given, but it is a big one, and there were also a few other things talked about that wont directly change anything inside the game."

"The one thing listed on the change list is…"

The news anchor paused for dramatic effect.

"The change to the currency system. The currency in game will now act as a cryptocurrency that can be used in the real world. Extant Company has already partnered with many companies in the real world who will now take the cryptocurrency given the simple name, "Coins", and many other companies are currently in talks with Extant to partner with them."

Enzo's eyes widened until they almost popped out of his sockets.

The current population of the world weren't strangers to cryptocurrencies. Many people tried starting up cryptocurrencies in the past, but they all failed because they didn't have anything backing it. However, if the cryptocurrency was backed by the game Legends Reborn Online would it fail like the rest?

'No, probably not.' Enzo answered himself.

The value of the failed cryptocurrencies was decided by how much the people in the world decided it was worth. Coins would be decided the same way, but the world wouldn't be able to just decide one day that they weren't worth it like other cryptocurrencies. That would mean they would diminish the value of Coins in game as well, subsequently affecting their money making opportunities in game.

After another dramatic pause to allow the viewers to process the information, the news anchor continued.

"There will be banks in the game that you can visit and deposit your money to keep it away from thieves. There will also be real world cards you can buy to use wherever you like, and a banking app will be released for mobile phones by Extant."

'They have really put a lot of thought into this.'

The anchor talked about the bank and coins for a while, explaining how to set up everything, before moving onto the next announcement.

///

How do you guys feel about this? I didn't want to make it a currency exchange like every other novel as I always felt that was very unrealistic. With it being a cryptocurrency instead I think it might seem more plausible, but let me know in the chapter comments.
