5 Chapter 4: Call back

After a moment of tense silence, I sat down beside him.

"What is it? You want to plan another day we can practice?" I asked, hoping that was the case.

"No, it's not that…" He hesitated for a moment, then added softly, "I want you to tell me your next mission."

That's what he's serious about?! I need to admit, I was both a little relieved and disappointed. Well, Kai Sensei said that our next mission involves us leaving our home. Maybe he wants to know if I'm leaving or not.

"Sensei explained that on our next mission we'll have to leave home and meet up with someone. He didn't specifically say who and where," I told him.

"What?" He looked...worried. "When are you leaving?"

"I don't know," I replied, shaking my head. "He said that he will give us details later. Not to mention, I have a bad feeling about it. It's like something is going to happen to him and the others."

"And if something did?" Yashun asked, not meeting my gaze. "What would you do?"

He was starting to scare me. I never want anything to happen to them. I've known them all my life. Kerin would tell me what part of my fighting sequence I did wrong and make me start over again, Lila and Lilu always brighten up my day with their smiles, Austin, even though he's a pain every now and then, he's fun to practice with, and Kai Sensei took me in when I didn't have a home and raised me as his own.

"What are you saying? Is there something you're not telling me, Yashun?" He didn't answer-- all he did was look at me softly. There was a kind of sad loneliness in his blue eyes. My heart was starting to pound in my chest. He raised a hand up to my cheek and leaned down close to my face. Next thing I knew he kissed me on my forehead, then wrapped his arms around me and held me tightly to him. I didn't know what he was doing or why.

"Yashun? What's going on? What's going to happen to the others if we go?" Now I was really worried, he never acted like this before.

"Nothing. But if something does happen, I'll find you, and explain everything. If you are willing to listen," he said. I was about to say something until my communicator started to beep.

Each one of us has our communicator device. Mine was a sort of leather that I wore around my neck. When I answered, I heard it was Austin.

"Hey. You need to cut your date short, Riko. Sensei says it's time to go," he explained.

I sighed. "This isn't a date, Austin. I'm just practicing my techniques with Yashun. Where are we meeting?"

"You need to come back to the dojo first, Kai Sensei wants to talk to you before we go."

Oh man, what did I do this time? I thought. "I'll be there in a bit." and hung up.

I look back at Yashun, who looked like he did something bad. "Can you tell me what's wrong before I go? I might not be back for a while, I think."

He shook his head, and gave me another hug. "Stay safe and watch your surroundings."

I wasn't sure about leaving without talking to him more. I was really worried, still am to be honest. What was he hiding? I thought to myself. Whatever it was, I'll get to the bottom of it. I hope.
