49 Soul Recovery School Trials (4)

"...four thousand nine hundred and ninety-eight… four thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine… five thousand." Savyrran dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes right after her last push-up. Her face was buried in the soft carpet as she lay still. "Ahhhhh…." A muffled scream tried to escape from her mouth. Then she turned over her body, such that her back was on the floor while her eyes faced the ceiling.

"Sorry, Ovan." She said, her eyes turning towards her brother who was lying on a bed not far from her. "I know you are trying to rest for tomorrow. But I am just so bored and it's driving me crazy."

Ovandarrak was lying on his back while his right hand was positioned over his forehead at an acute angle. With his eyes still closed, he said, "it's alright. I know." He was actually surprised his sister had not completely lost her mind from being inactive for so long. Savyrran loved two things; training and people. Ever since they left Coast Town, she had not had the chance to train properly. All she ever did were push-ups and certain simple physical training techniques which to her, were not enough.

Thus, she had been bored most of the time. She had hoped that she could kill her boredom once she began her trials at the Combat School, however, it did not seem the trials would be starting anytime soon. Instead, she ended up being cooped up most of the time in the inn they had rented.

Savyrran smiled at her brother's words. "How do you feel now?" She asked.

Ovandarrak had been using his essence for several hours in the last two days. As mentally strong as he was, something like that still took a huge toll on him. Hence, anytime his trials were over, he would come straight to his room to rest. He had been lying down in the same position in the last five hours while Savyrran trained. Tomorrow, he would be going through the indigo level and he needed every bit of his strength.

"A lot less exhausted. I will be well rested by tomorrow."

"Great. Once you pass the indigo level, you will officially become a student of the academy."

The indigo level, Ovandarrak thought. He had had a feel of the blue essence and he knew exactly how powerful it was.

Blue essence was the strongest essence to be manifested in the Second Dimension. A person with a blue essence was so powerful that they could easily devastate an army of yellow users. The difference in power between the green and blue essence was like that between heaven and earth, and only few people with weaker essence dared to pick a fight with blue users.

The indigo and violet essence, however, were not original to the Second Dimension. A person from the Second Dimension with indigo essence definitely advanced from a lower essence; most likely the blue essence. If the difference in power between the green and blue was like heaven and earth, then that between the blue and indigo was like one tiny speck and an entire universe. It was this very powerful essence that Ovandarrak was going to face tomorrow.

A blue user without mastery over their mental energy would die within minutes when exposed to oppressive indigo essence. Ovandarrak had never seen the indigo essence, however, from what he had learned it was not a joking matter. If his calculations were right, and the indigo essence was ten thousand times stronger than the blue essence like Doctor Avor had claimed, then he would only be able to endure it for thirty minutes. The level itself would last for four hours, but it seemed he would have to finish it before thirty minutes to survive.

But even with the risk involved, Ovandarrak could not wait for the trials to begin. In fact, he wished he could even experience what the violet essence was like. Would he explode once he came into contact with the violet essence? Well, there was only one way to find out.

…....

The third day of the Soul Recovery School trials began. This time around, only two applicants were participating thus, making it easier for everyone else to watch the trials. There will not be an unnecessary back and forth shot on one applicant to the next. With only two applicants left, the screen will be fixated on them the entire time.

Ovandarrak and Pan were already waiting in the Grand Hall. After a few minutes of waiting, a short middle-aged woman with short brown hair suddenly appeared out of a yellow mist, right in front of them. Ovandarrak had never seen this woman before, but seeing that she had appeared with Captain Jarjaha, he knew that she was the examiner for the indigo level. Just as the mist had appeared, it suddenly disappeared into thin air.

As Ovandarrak had thought, the woman introduced herself as the examiner of the level. She further explained the rules involved in the indigo level, something the two boys already knew because they had been told on their first day.

"As you already know, you are free to use your essence and soul armos however you want. The only thing you can't do is to kill your fellow applicants. If you feel you can no longer continue, you can simply forfeit by saying the word 'abort'." The examiner said. "For your trials to begin, take six steps in front of you. Captain, do you have anything to say to them?"

Two pairs of eyes looked at the captain. Perhaps, the captain might have a piece of advice for them; a clue as to how they could survive this level. After all, it comes to reason that the captain had definitely gone through the trials too.

A smirk grew on Captain Jarjaha's face once he heard the examiner's question. "Try not to die." Then he chuckled.

"I think he's talking to you." Pan said with a laugh as he glance at Ovandarrak. But Ovandarrak did not even shoot him a glance, nor did he give him the luxury of a reply. The jeering gleam in Pan's eyes dimmed when he saw that Ovandarrak was ignoring him.

Captain Jarjaha chuckled as he observed the dynamics between the two applicants. One look into Ovandarrak's cold intense eyes and the captain could not help but feel that there was something dangerous about the boy.

A shapeless yellow mist appeared in front of the examiner. Captain Jarjaha walked through the yellow mist, then disappeared. Once the examiner walked through the mist, she disappeared together with the mist. It was like they were never even there in the first place.

Six steps. Ovandarrak thought. What did that mean? Maybe all he had to do was take six steps forward, like the examiner had instructed. So Ovandarrak did just that, and then suddenly, a burst of white light engulfed his entire body, thus whisking him away to an entirely different place.
