13 Portal

Then Savyrran began running as fast as she could as she tightly held on to her brother. The three children behind her who were all red users released their essence and then ran after her as fast as they could. Savyrran was easily able to keep up with them even though she was carrying another human being as heavy as she was. Most of her strength came from her excessive physical training. Ever since she started training her body as soon as she began walking, Savyrran had grown stronger than all the children with red essence. Under normal circumstances, it was simply impossible for someone with a weaker essence to fight a stronger one, thus being able to keep up even without an essence was just unthinkable. The children who were running side by side with Savyrran could not help but be amazed. They were running at the their highest speed, and yet this young child was still keeping up with them.

Soon, the children had ran far enough to the coast. The sea breeze was especially cool this evening. The entire beach was deserted and only wooden canoes were scattered all over. With the exception of the mighty roar of the sea waves, there was no other sound. Even the enchanted children who were still walking in a straight line were not making a sound.

"There they are." Savyrran said once they got closer. She noticed that only a few meters away from the wandering children was a black door tall enough for an adult human. What was a door doing in the middle of the beach? Upon a closer look, Savyrran realised that the door was opened and the children were entering one after the other. However, while they entered, it seemed they did not get out from the other side of the door. It looked as if they had completely disappeared from the beach.

"Some kind of a portal soul armos." One of the children said. "If they go through we will never find them. We have to do something."

Of course the had to. That was why they were here. Savyrran thought to herself. "I can immobilize them. Hold my brother, please. And you two hold down as many children as you can." Now that she was no longer carrying her brother, she rushed towards the children and repeated the same technique she had tried on Ovandarrak to keep him still. The other two companions held down as many children as they could. After a few minutes, they had been able to stop about eleven children from mindlessly going through that door. Though they had stopped many of the children from going through the mysterious door, Savyrran knew some of them had slipped through. There was only one thought in her mind. She had to bring them back.

"Laffiti, you stay behind and watch over them while Yani and Nei carry them back to Doctor Avor."

"What about you and your brother?" The girl called Laffiti asked. She was still holding on to Ovandarrak. "Do you want me to take him back too?"

Savyrran knew that was the only way his brother was going to be safe. What she was going to do was dangerous and she could not possibly take her unconscious brother along. "Yes. I don't know how long that door is going to stay open so I have to go in there as soon as possible. There are some children lost there."

"What… what is going on, Savy?"

Savyrran's eyes shimmered with joy as soon as she heard that familiar voice. "Ovan?" She could not believe it. Her brother had woken up, did this mean that the spell was broken? Kasko and Ayani did it then? That was really fast. No, something was not right.

Laffiti gently put the boy down in front of his sister. Her eyes could not hide her surprise either. If Ovandarrak was up, did that not mean the spell was broken? Why weren't the other children waking up?

The same thought was also running through Savyrran's mind. But this was not the time to daydream. She glanced back at the door. She had to go now. "Ovan, everything is going to be alright. But I need you to help them take back all the children to Doctor Avor."

Ovandarrak had no idea what was happening, but from the urgency in his sister's voice, he knew this was serious. Nevertheless, he could not help but wonder what was going on. The last thing he remembered was hearing some strange music back in their room. Then everything became blank. "Are you not coming with us?"

Savyrran smiled bitterly at her twin. Once again, she was leaving her brother and it pained her how sad he looked. "Some of our friends are lost within that door. I have to go and help them. Please go with them."

"I understand. But there is no way I'm letting you go on your own. I'm coming with you." Ovan said. This time instead of that small scared voice, it was the detached and emotionless voice everyone knew he had. Once she heard that, Savyrran knew there was nothing she could say to convince her brother to leave. He was coming with her, and that was final. Besides, she would feel better if her brother was by her side. If she was strong, then he was smart and together they made a formidable team.

"Okay. Fine. But we have to go now."

A small smile flashed on Ovandarrak's poker face. But it was gone within a second. He ran after his sister as fast as he could and soon, the two children were lost within the door. As soon as they entered, the black door vanished into thin air.
