5 Familiar Magic

***

Hendrik's Tower, nearing dawn

Nearing the light of the morning a small fur ball known as Seraph was hopping on Hendrik's chest acting as the wakeup call for the day.

`Rise-hop-and-hop-shine-hop` Seraph would demand timing each hop to have the optimal height of annoyance to befall her human. All was going well until a sudden gust of wind threw her off the bed and straight out the window.

Thankfully the window was only 4' above the ground so the little fur ball just plopped onto the grass in defeat wondering what they'd done wrong. After a moment to collect herself she got up and explored a little around the tower only to find rocks, grass, mushrooms of questionable origin and some weirdly placed stones that looked like an ogre was playing chess with large rocks but forgot to draw the board lines.

After a few minutes Hendrik walks out of the front door and stares down at Seraph in annoyance.

"Why is your behavior like this little one... have you never been taught common decency or manners before?" He'd be tapping his right foot against the grass which Seraph would look over her right and left shoulder then looking back at Hendrik.

'I honestly can't remember, the only memories I have are when I've met you before a wolf almost tried to eat me up. I know things but at the same time they're out of reach, maybe I just hit my head on a tree or something.' Seraph would shrug because this was the truth, she had the understanding of many designs and information in her head, however It was like they were behind a pane of glass.

"Hrm.. Well It can't be helped. However If you want to learn magic from me you'll need to learn how to behave." Hendrik would start walking out in the open field of grass with Seraph in close pursuit.

'Sir yes Sir... I think that's what I say right? Sowwy that just came out of nowhere.' Seraph would hop instead of walk, jumping 2' up before landing gracefully on all fours to just repeat the process as she kept pace with Hendrik.

"Alright here is good, now then little one we'll start with the very basics of magic. Since you're a familiar you should be naturally attuned to at least one type of magic. We're going to see what it is." Hendrik waved his hand as a runic stone emerged from the ground without actually harming it.

'Another stone mana flow thing?' Seraph was curious how the ground didn't get torn apart, he must really respect his own lawn.

"Yes, however you need to search yourself for your own mana, like seeing how many torches are lit inside your homestead." Hendrik sat down on the grass to observe the little fur ball.

After a few moments Seraph was able to sit comfortably on top of the emerged rock of runes. She closed her eyes and tried to put a visualization of her mana flow. After a few attempts she decided to not focus on visualizing her flow as fire but as whatever came to her mind. Eighteen different flows of mana started to materialize in her mind as she watched in awe at their different color and what she believed to be symbols. There were nine mana flows going upwards and nine going down, the former being lighter while the latter being darker. However from all these mana flows, only two were full of vibrant life and color, one upper and lower. The upper flow of mana looks like a shining white light that keeps bouncing around the edges of the flow of mana while the lower mana flow seemed to slowly immerse itself within the darkness of her mind before appearing slowly back like it was breathing.

Several minutes passed during this session

"Have you found it yet?" Hendrik was expecting something ridiculous after the display from the Adventurer's Guild. Yet even though he should be afraid of the demonic creature before him, She was just too adorable to be something with an evil nature.

'I think so, There's a lot of lines but only two are really showing themselves to me. The others feel distant.' Seraph couldn't help but be curious as to why she was seeing all of the flows of mana yet only two seemed to wrap around her conscious mind with familiarity.

"That is indeed odd, for now what can you tell me about the two you can see?" Hendrik now has a peak interest in the powers of the demon realm. Mainly if they vastly differ in understanding of magic from that taught from the mortal realm and the hellish worlds.

'One looks like it doesn't want to stop moving, a bright white light that I think is happy to be around? The other is a dark bluish looking shadow, It seems to not want to be seen.' She'd move the strands of mana around to see how her actions caused reactions within the mana strands.

"From what you're saying one sounds like a form of healing magic while the other seems to be dimensional magic. Not what i was expecting but I think i'm getting used to your irregularity. For that to be a good thing is still up for debate..." Hendrik grasped his staff and pointed at Seraph.

"Now since you have a grasp of what it looks like, try to figure out a sign that represents its name, then give it life by commanding its purpose and finally give it power from the mana you hold within with moderation." Hendrik stressed the last word.

'So what if I'd do something like Yeet delete that peep?' She'd twirl her right paw until it ended up pointing towards a small little bird covered in light blue feathers on its wings, brown feathers covering from tail to head with a white belly and a small little red beak.

That same bird suddenly started to convulse and collapsed on the grass slowly sucking into itself until finally when the bird compressed itself into the size of pea was when it vanished without a trace.

Hendrik just rubbed his eyes attempting to confirm what just happened.

Seraph blinked several times, she then looked down at her paw and grinned.

'Ok that was easy enough... I wonder.' Seraph decided to think up of making a projectile of the dark blue magic without saying anything. Towards her own curiosity and surprise, she succeeded in creating a projectile that seemed to be out of place to describe it simply.

'So i can cast magic without stupid words or waving my hand about aside from pointing towards my target. I can live with that.' Seraph started going over possible outcomes for what she can and can't do at the moment.

Meanwhile not only is Hendrik recovering from seeing a form of chaos magic get implemented on a poor little bird, but the little fur ball also managed to create a magical projectile without saying the cast or doing any form of hand signs.

"Do you know the word average?" This question was meant to spite, it was filled with genuine concern.

'I prefer the term unique.' Seraph would snuggle her tails in delight, for she just managed to clean the surface of her skin and hair from impurities by violently disintegrating.

'My first magical shower.' She curled up into a ball of fluff, two tails wrapping around it.
