14 Arena of brave and fluff

***

Iremn, Academy of Mages, Arena of Gul'rok

The roar of the crowd echoes throughout the arena. Thousands of spectators of every class came to watch the fight between familiars and mages. The elders gave familiars collars that dampened their natural attunement to mana control, for humans a bracelet. Every human was mentally preparing themselves for a fight to advance their futures, while all the familiars were slightly getting psyched out aside from a few like Quartz.

"Ladies and gentlemen, old and young, we welcome everyone here to the bi-yearly familiar selection process! This year we have a big showcase of students waiting to seize the opportunity to have a familiar submit and serve by their side for the advanced classes of Ceta year students, to become Betas!" The crowd roared in excitement, many well dressed families cheered down towards their spawn, others simply waved their hand without looking. Over to the farthest section of the arena high above the rest of the people two adults, and three children sat on their respective seats overlooking all the arena had to show.

'Sheesh, humans really like violence don't they.' Seraph would roll into a ball of fluff and stay on the bleachers until someone called her out upfront.

The first to go was Quartz and some girl. The battle was pretty quick considering. The girl weaved multiple spells of fire while Quartz was able to absorb them into crystals she created from the sands, and redirected many of those same fireballs back at the human. To say she was like burnt toast afterwards would be an accurate statement. The crowd laughed along with Seraph. A few more matches go off, some familiars win, others lose. It was sometimes a coin flip since both sides would be so exhausted from mana they had to do close combat. Seraph wagged her tails at the sight of all these fights, learning some patterns humans have and what familiars had as well. All of them have one disadvantage in common, all had to say their magical spells before executing it.

A couple hours passed and it was finally half time, everyone was gathering drinks and food except for Seraph. When everyone came back the show continued up until Seraph was called out. One of the younger girls wanted their chance to fight Seraph so both made their way into the sandy pits of the arena. Seraph would hop about playing in the sand while the girl was in a fighting stance.

"Fight!" The announcer roared, the girl weaved up an ice spike spell and fired it at the hopping three tailed fox. Seraph dodged it with no effort, she kept hopping dodging more ice spikes and soon ice shards coming out of the ground until a pillar of light shoots the girl up into the air and vanishes leaving her thirty meters in the air to fall. The girl crashes down into the sand and twists her left hand and ankle to break the fall. The elders picked her up and called the fight a win to the familiar.

Next up was a slightly chubby man child, he created some metal armor around his body and a sword to fight Seraph up close. When the announcer signaled the start of the fight, it ended just as quickly, for Seraph lunged forward and kicked the boy square in the chestplate, shattering the metal and some of his ribs. The crowd roared in excitement at such a defeat, laughing at the child coughing up blood.

The other young girl who was supposed to challenge Seraph forfeited leaving the late comer. Seraph hopped around enjoying her time in the strange sand, she'd glance over at the girl to see what she was up to. Then the announcer initiated the fight, and things got a little weird.

Olivia, the latecomer was a part of the top five percent of their grade and has semi-mastered gravitation magic. At the start of the round the sand and Seraph begins to float in the air, responding to this Seraph creates light platforms to land and push off of. Her attention is on Olivia, she might actually be fun. A few moments passed before Olivia straight up vanished in thin air, Seraph looked around where she could have gone before she felt the force of a heel pressing down her skull thrusting her down to the sand below causing it to shoot up like a meteorite just landed. Olivia uses gravity to increase her descent down towards Seraph until a black Miasma spewed out from the crater. Olivia vanished again, reappearing fifty meters away looking at Seraph who hops out of the crater and shakes her body flinging any sand in her fur out.

Seraph looked back at the human and smiled, for the human just gave her an idea to get an edge on this fight. She creates a hollow platform and fills it with miasma, she jumps on the side facing Olivia and fills the hollow space further until it causes an explosive force shooting her like a bullet towards Olivia. Olivia sidesteps only to get an uppercut from one of Seraph's tails, sending her flying into the air. Seraph takes this opportunity to push herself faster, she'd create pillars that thrusted her straight to her target. In the span of five seconds Olivia sustained forty seven strikes all over her body before falling to the ground. Seraph stands on her hind legs looking down at Olivia. Olivia after that torrent if strikes still manages to stand up, she was determined to win or die trying, Seraph saw that in her eyes. After some contemplation, Seraph hops over to Olivia and gets on her right shoulder, Seraph proceeds to nuzzle Olivia's hair and heal her at the same time.

The overwatching crowd grew silent long after the beginning of the matchup, once the dust cleared they saw Olivia battered but still standing, and a fluff ball performing healing magic on her. The crowd roared with such excitement they had to stand to express how amazing that fight was for a Ceta to accomplish against a familiar that just showcased three powers.

"Ladies and gentlemen I don't believe my eyes but it's happening here and now! The unknown familiar and the Elusive Gravity Queen of Ceta class have fought to their heart's content! Olivia Greyheart was beaten down near defeat but the familiar chose her as their master! This is the sportsmanship I've been waiting for a very long time, I might actually cry, please excuse me~" The crowd continued to cheer on the two, the elders went to see if any serious wounds were sustained, none were found but the charred remains of their collar and bracelet. Both were overloaded during the fight, causing many questions to stir up.

Olivia would scratch under Seraph's chin, she was very intrigued by this little fur ball being so powerful. She looked for any name tags but couldn't find any, so she casted a simple spell to talk with familiars.

"Might I have your name familiar? You gave me a run for my money back there. As you can hear from the announcer I am Olivia Greyheart." She'd switch it up by rubbing behind Seraph's ears

'Hewwo, I am Seraph. And I shall be your familiar for a while. That was a pretty fun fight you gave me, for a human that is.' Seraph would turn into a neck scarf on Olivia as they both were asked to head over to the evaluation room to form a pact and demonstrate their attunement to magic.
