18 Change of Mind

The living room was mostly dark apart from the lamp shade sitting on a side table illuminating one corner of the room. Elian was sitting on the couch with his legs stretched out, placed one over the other.

"I'm still slightly upset that you were trying to hide it from me", Declan complained as he walked towards Elian with two black mugs in his hands. He handed over a mug and sat next to him. "It is a little embarrassing to admit that I wanted to have a kid with someone I thought I hated a few days ago", Elian confessed.

"I've always told you everything. I even told you the truth about me and Ava despite knowing that you'd laugh at me, which you did. And you told Tristan about it and he still makes fun of me, you know? I still never got mad at you. How can you ever be embarrassed in front of me?", Declan said with an annoyed face.

"Tristan mocks you because you took that relationship way too seriously. She didn't love you and I can tell that you didn't truly love her either. You'll find someone who deserves a good guy like you, trust me.", Elian assured him, "But me...I've been a jerk to a lot of people. No one can trust me enough to have a family with me. Everyone thinks I'm promiscuous and unreliable". (Bzzzt...Bzzzt...Bzzzt), the sound of the phone vibrating interrupted their conversation. Declan reached for his pocket and took out his phone, "Oh no...", he said in a serious but low voice, "Your dad?", Elian asked. "Yeah, he's asking me to visit him tomorrow, so he definitely knows that I'm not training", Declan answered while staring at his phone screen.

Elian chuckled a little, "I'm sorry for causing you trouble again", he said. "You should be, but I didn't think you would get over your fear of omegas anytime soon. I guess that late bloomer omega has got you whipped", Elian slapped the back of Declan's head, "Aaah…Ouch", he cried. "He hasn't, I just wanted to apologize since it was my fault", he justified. The two chatted for a while and dozed off.

Kian walked into the waiting area of the hospital, it was busier than yesterday with hardly any empty chairs. He stood leaning against a wall and waited for his turn. He hadn't been feeling very well, a part of it was due to his pregnancy but largely due to the stress built up in his system after yesterday's incidences. It had gotten so bad that he couldn't sleep at all last night. And adding to his dismay Will didn't speak a word to him after their chat in the bakery. His eyes were swollen due to all the crying and his head was spinning.

For a moment he wanted to agree with Will and ask Uncle Lee for money, but he knew the kind of burden Uncle Lee was already under. And the amount for the loan wasn't small either, he could pay an installment with Uncle Lee's help but what will happen next month? What if what happened yesterday keeps on happening in the future? What will he do then?

He noticed an empty chair slightly down the aisle, walked over to it and seated himself down. His eyes moved to a poster hanging directly in front of him, "Commercial Surrogacy : Parents looking for Surrogates ", it said in large white block letters with a picture of a pregnant woman on the bottom. "There are fools in this world who would pay other people to birth their child and then not take responsibility for it?", he scoffed. "I know right? I could've gotten paid for doing this but instead I'm here spending my money to get rid of this liability", an omega sitting next to him commented . Kian realized he said his thoughts out loud, he turned and smiled at him for the sake of politeness.

But then it hit him. Why couldn't he think of this earlier? He could get the money without having to be a parent, he doesn't have to take responsibility for the child. All Elian asked for was letting the child live. For a moment Kian saw a possibility of an opportunity in his misery. But then the fear took over. What if he gets taken advantage of, like the last time? What if Elian tries to hurt him again? But again, at least Elian wasn't a gangster who would attack his shop and his friends, at most he was only putting himself at risk, and not Will or Allis. After all, he thought, he is the one at blame for how things have turned out. He got up off the chair and left.

"Elian, wake up! It's past 9 already. Your brother called twice", Declan shook Elian by his shoulders, "Hmmm?", he opened his eyes and slowly sat up, "Fuck...I should have called him last night", he said idly rubbing his eyes, "I'm going to see dad, get ready I'll drop you on my way", Declan said. "Yup, just wait for a few minutes I'll take a quick shower and change. I'm gonna have a long day today, I better be ready", he sighed and got off the couch.

As soon as Elian headed towards the staircase, the door opened and the security guard stepped in, "Sir, I apologize for bothering you early morning but that boy, Kian, he has come looking for you. Should I let-", "What? He's here?", Elian interrupted. Knowing that Kian came looking for him sent an adrenaline rush in his veins, he felt like every part of his body was fired up. He couldn't believe what he had just heard. "I'm sorry sir", the guard apologized and left hurriedly leaving the large wooden door open behind him.

For the next few seconds Elian paced back and forth in the living room while Declan looked at him astonishingly. The Elian he knew was so nonchalant that he wouldn't even care if someone gave him a death threat. And right now he looks more anxious than Declan himself had felt during his soccer trials for the national team.

As Kian stepped inside the room, Elian's body froze as if he had seen a ghost. He couldn't move his gaze away from him. He appeared somewhat like a wilted rose, which bothered Elian a little. "Can we talk for a minute?", he asked in a soft voice. "Yea-Yeah! Sure. Si-sit down please.", Elian's voice trembled.
