18 Learning To Control my Powers

The next day I met with Alex. Turns out the person Elaine's mother had in mind to teach me proper use of my magic was my fiancé.

We were standing in the garden where we last met under the same tree. The wind was blowing heavily and the hat I was wearing was almost blown away together with the leaves falling from the tree. Thankfully I held it still with my hands.

I covered my eyes with my arm as the wind went into my eyes now seeing the blurry image of Alex who somehow walked closer to me. A few seconds passed and the winds died down. He was blocking the wind for me.

I didn't notice that he had stood very close to me. My heart beat quickened as I examined his face. No wonder he's the main character. With such a handsome face he couldn't possibly be just a side character.

He was silent as he blocked the wind for me.

'Well should we start?', I asked breaking the uncomfortable silence.

'Are you so infatuated with me that you had to come up with such an excuse to spend time with me?'

Hearing those words come out of his mouth made me want to barf. Well I can't blame him for thinking something like that since the real Elaine really did have a huge crush on him. But right now the thing I wanted the most was to be able to have control over my powers. Nothing beats being able to do magic.

That's probably the one thing that I've enjoyed about being reincarnated.

The wind died down and he took a step backwards from me and my heart beat went back to its normal pace.

'Trust me this wasn't my idea either. I don't want to spend more time with you than I have to, so can we just go on with the magic stuff?' I held my chin high and refused to admit that I actually like him. Which I don't. Really I don't.

Who would like such a stuck up person? Plus he basically was the person who put Elaine in the guillotine and had her head chopped off. Keeping my distance from him would be the best thing to do.

'Sure, I believe you. Shall we start then?'

I wonder if he detests me so much why would he even agree to come here and teach me anyways? He was probably forced by his father to make nice with me. No wonder he finds Elaine annoying if she kept doing that to him in the book, but that's still no reason to kill someone.

I nodded my head.

'So as you know there are the basic elements of magic. Fire, water, air and earth. What's your element?'

I gave him a shrug. I've never used magic before, how would I know?

'You don't even know what your element is? How stupid can you be?', he kept his face calm, but I could tell that he wanted to smirk at his remark.

I have half a mind to slap him. Isn't he supposed to be my teacher yet he talks down to me. How in the world did Anastasia ever fall in love with a guy like him anyways?

Why are the male leads always so full of themselves?

'Are you gonna teach me or not?', I snapped at him, 'I need a teacher not a commentary.'

'Alright don't need to be angry. First let's find out what element of magic you specialize in. Put your hands out and feel the earth can you make the grass grow?'

I put both my hands in front of my body like he is demonstrating in front of me and tried to do what he said, but nothing happened.

After that we tried to move other elements as well. We went to a pond nearby in the garden that had stones surrounding it. I put my hands out once again and tried to move the water, but that also didn't work.

Then we tried if I can move the wind surrounding us to create a breeze but that to lead to nothing.

Finally we went inside the manor and went to the living room where he asked a servant to bring out a candle. The servant put the candle on the table while he and I sat on opposite sides of the table.

I tried to move the fire on the burning candle, but that too did not work.

'Wow, you really have no talent do you?', Alex said leaning back on the couch with his arms crossed and legs on top of one another.

I wanted to give him a snide remark but the truth is I really couldn't control any of the elements. Does that mean that I have no magical power? That can't be right? The king said that the Castelle family is known for their great magical powers.

Is the only thing that excited me since I came here really not something I can do?

'Well is that it? Do I really not have any magical talent?', I was hoping there is something else I could do. Maybe learn magic overtime? Even if I have no "talent" in magic maybe I could just work harder than everyone else and be the underdog, you know?

'I'm afraid so, if you can't move even the basic elements, it means you don't have any magic.'

'....' I don't know what to say to that. I'm disappointed that I can't use magic.

I didn't feel like talking much after that and asked Alex to leave, he said his goodbyes probably happy he doesn't have to spend another minute teaching me anything. But he didn't show any expression like that.

The day was turning dark and the night was approaching. Soon I got ready for bed and as I slept I didn't realize that there were objects moving around me.

The water in the sink of my bathroom moved up into the air only to drip down again, the candle on my bedside light up without any match and died once more by the breeze that seemed to appear out of nowhere, the plant on the balcony table grew a few inches and went back to its original state.
