First Dive

*Knock Knock*

"Coming." A boy shouted as he ran to the door.

When he opened the door he saw a delivery man holding a brown box

"I have a package here for a Mr. Kage." The man said

"That's me." The boy said.

"Please sign here." the man said as he handed Kage the package and a clipboard.

Kage signed the papers and handed them back to the man saying "Have a good day."

Kage closed the door and ran upstairs with his box. He went into his room and opened up the box.

"Finally it's here," Kage said pulling out a shiny helmet that had Nerve Gear written on it from the box.

The Nerve Gear was a brand new Full Dive Virtual Reality (FDVR) helmet that was created by Kayaba Akihiko. Today was the day that his game, Sword Art Online, went online publicly. Kage had hoped to be one of the beta testers but, sadly he wasn't chosen. So he had to wait till today before he could join. Kage set up the machine and saw that there was still a few hours before the game became public so he decides to go get something to eat before he jumped into the game. He walked down to the kitchen and opened the fridge and pulled some bread and ham. While he was making himself a sandwich his little sister came downstairs.

"Hey make me one too." She told him.

"Sure, you ok with mustard?" he asked

"Whatever's fine." She said.

"Alright," Kage said.

"So what are you going to do later on today?" She asked

"Well, I'm going to play Sword Art Online a little while later than who knows," Kage said.

"What time do you think you will finish?" she asked

"The server goes online at 13:00 JST so i'll get off at about 18:00," Kage said, "Why do you ask?"

"Well, I just thought that we could hang out later." She said shyly.

"Sure, we could go see that movie you have been wanting to watch." He told her ruffling her hair.

"Ok." She said with a big smile.

Kage and his sister ate their sandwiches in silence after that. When Kage looked at the clock hanging above the doorway and saw it read 12:30 he quickly finished his sandwich and went upstairs leaving his sister to clean up. He jumped onto his bed and put on his helmet.

{Please pat down your body to calibrate the machine.} A mechanical voice said from the helmet.

Kage did as he was told and patted down his whole body.

{Calibration complete, please say link-start to start your nerve gear.}

"Link Start," Kage shouted

Suddenly a white screen with a bunch of colorful cylinders came across his vision. Once all the different cylinders were done moving across his screen he was welcomed to a screen that showed him as well as a few options to customize himself. He decided to make it look as much like himself as possible. He did black hair with black eyes, a sharp jawline, he made himself 1.8 meters tall with an athletic build. After he looked it over once more and decide that it was good he put in his age 15 and clicked confirm.

A bright light flashed which made Kage close his eyes. When he opened them he was standing in a town with a large number of other people.

Kage looked around saw a man standing not too far away who looked very confused. He decided to walk up to him and say hello.

"Hello, you look like you could use some help," Kage told him.

"Ah, yeah man I don't understand all this stuff." The guy told him.

"Well, did you listen to the tutorial voice?" Kage asked him.

"Uh, what?" The guy asked with a confused look on his face.

"Tap on the bottom left of your screen," Kage told him.

The guy did as Kage said and for a few minutes, he stood there looking at his status screen. Finally, he looked and looked at Kage.

"Thanks, man, I'm Klein." The guy said sticking out his hand

"I'm Kage," Kage replied as he shook the man's hand.

"Well since I'm new and all and you seem to know your stuff wanna party up for a while?" Klein asked.

"Sure," Kage replied.

The two of them walked towards the large gate that led to the field. Kage looked out and saw large platforms held up by thin pieces of earth he got excited.

"This is my first dive," he said

"We have reached 20,000 users sir." a woman told a man sitting next to her with a grim look on her face.

"Very good, then we shall start with phase two," he said.

"Yes sir."
