44 Lingering feelings

"Ran Sheng…What This Lord had given, This Lord can take it back. Do not take This Lord for granted. Your life is of no importance to This Lord".

His voice was still very cold, but now it was also threatening. Killing intent was seeping through each word.

Since Lily did not control her mouth nor her body, she was waiting to see what would happen next. Therefore, she was not afraid of him, just curious. In this memory, it seemed Ran Sheng was also not afraid: she was desperate. She was thirsty for revenge.

"Lord, I, Ran Sheng can only exchange my life for vengeance. I promise I will fully devote my life to you if you help me." Lily's voice was unyielding; her eyes were sparkling with pride.

A flash of interest and amusement lighted up his eyes. He had tried scaring her just now, but she did not back out. Instead, she proudly stood up.

"This Lord thought you didn't remember."

"I don't. I was only pleading with you. But does that mean there is a promise between us that has been exchanged?"

Without answering to her question, he just whispered:

"What's a mere human life? This Lord has no use for you."

Lily was thinking long and hard about what Ran could offer. From her memory, Ran was just a teenager girl with no power and no strong family background. She was just a regular girl, there was nothing she could offer.

As time was passing, Lily could feel that Ran's confidence was slowly eroding. Her disappointment must have shown on her face, because he chuckled a bit and added with a warmer tone:

"This Lord will spare you for now."

The young girl sighed in relief. She was not afraid but it did not mean she was prepared to die.

His lips curved lightly in a faint smile.

"Since you are awake, accompany this Lord for awhile."

Lily was puzzled. He said "accompany" but where, to do what? She was not in a state where she could walk, was she?

Before she could ask any further, he sat down again near the bed. An erhu appeared in his hands and he started playing.

When the first notes resounded, the young girl's eyes became misty. Her brain also became foggy. Well in this case, Ran's eyes and brain because it did not affect Lily at all.

The melody was extremely beautiful and had hints of nostalgia and melancholy without being overly dramatic or sappy. Once the song ended, he stood up for a second time. He passed his hand over Ran's (Lily's) head.

A very dim colored light seemed to spill over from his palm to the young girl head. At the same time, Lily could feel warmth and in her mind, a symbol flashed. She closed her eyes. Once she opened them again, he was gone.

Lily hypothesized that Ran must not have been aware of this "imprinting" process. This realization blew her mind. Lily had heard of marking an animal skin but never of marking a person's spirit. What that imprinting meant? Was there a way to remove it? Lily was growing anxious. She didn't know if her body's was hers or Ran's and she was seriously hoping that she hadn't been "imprinted"…after all, she was not an animal!!!
