Introduction

Thunder rumbled in the sky. Lightning crashed down in the distance. Rain drenched the small town.

A fifteen-year-old girl was caught up in the storm; she was disoriented, confused, and terrified as hell. Everything was hard to see. It was like she was surrounded by thick clouds.

Her older brother had previously been walking with her, but he had run ahead after an argument they had. Now she wished desperately for him to come back. She feared she would not even be able to find her way home.

"Connor! Connor, come back! Please! Come back!" she yelled out as she continued moving.

The girl was soaked from head to toe, and trembling both from the cold and from the sheer terror she was experiencing. She tried to find familiar things in her surroundings. She lived in a rather small town, yet she was still managing to be lost.

Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice call out, "Ashlyn! Where are you?! Ashlyn! I'm here!"

It was her brother.

"Connor, I'm scared!" the girl yelled.

"Just follow my voice, Ashy! You're almost home!"

The girl did her best to determine where his voice was coming from, then ran in that direction.

"I'm here, Ashlyn!" he called out once more.

She ran to his voice, now feeling more confident in his location. It wasn't long before she could make out his silhouette just across the street. She started to dash over to him.

Suddenly, he screamed, "Ashlyn, watch out!"

But it was too late.

Just as the girl realized what was happening, she was struck by a fast-moving car that hadn't seen her coming. The impact was absolutely devastating to her body. She blacked out almost instantly.

For a few seconds, she opened her eyes to see her brother crouched over her, holding onto her mangled body and sobbing.

"It's gonna be okay, Ashy..." he sobbed.

"...Connor..." she whimpered as she took her final breath.

That was the night Ashlyn Carr died.
