. Burn burn burn

Quickly the fire engulfed my vision, myself and JoeJoe crawled to the stairs while my mother reached the door to the restaurant and threw it open. I could feel my lungs clogging up with the smoke from the fire, making it unbearable to breathe.

Not much longer after my mother had stepped into the restaurant, she came flying back in, landing directly into the worst of the fire. Her gargled screams of agony and desperate help filled my ears, bouncing over the sound of crackling.

"Mum!" JoeJoe sobbed loudly as our mothers cries slowly were drowned out. I grabbed JoeJoe's hand and dragged her up the stairs and to our bedroom.

"What did we do to deserve this?" she whispered, flopping down onto the floorboards below us, they were warm but not on fire yet. I could feel them gradually heating up more and more as we sat in our silence.

"We're going to die here, aren't we?" I heard my sister break our silence solemnly. I felt strange, my sister was always so optimistic, seeing her so sad and pessimistic was... making me angry.

I stood up and opened the two windows in our room to let out a bit of smoke and turned to her.

"No," I say bluntly, "someone will help us, I swear on everything I love."

She gave me a weak smile as I looked out the window to see the man still outside. He was dancing around and singing 'burn burn burn,' over and over.

"I hope someone helps us," I whisper lowly to myself before crashing onto my knees beside JoeJoe.
