2 Chapter Two: A True Monster

Some time passed quickly as weeks went by with him nowhere in sight. He wasn't in any classes, or at the food hall. I met with Zero up there every day to eat. Zero thought I was crazy saying that there was no one like that in this school.

I got so curious about him so I checked the school records, luckily enough they were code protected but I still got in, I looked and looked for an Eveningwing Rivers but nothing. Not a scrape of information on the guy as I started to think that Zero was right and I was just losing my mind. 'Was he just a dream, did I make him up? Maybe I finally went crazy.' I couldn't take this feeling I needed answers.

I had to know who he was so when I was called to the headmaster's office for the breaking into the school files. Yeah I'm aware it is a law but I knew this was my chance. "You sir, what were you thinking!?" he yelled furiously at me. He tapped his pointer finger on the table.

"I-I uh sir; who is Eveningwing Rivers?" I said in a questioning yet demanding voice "He helped me in that fight and I want to know how and why but I can't find anything on him?" I looked at the headmaster who began to stroke his beard and lean back in his chair.

"Ah I thought that something was very odd about the death of John that happened so suddenly was due to the Eve of shadows. To think that he helped you, most fortunate for you. He is a strange fellow to say the least." He smiled a bit as he leaned forward for his cup. "See Eve isn't a student he chooses to hang around but he doesn't have to. But Breaking into files is against the rules." He tried to divert my attention.

"So you know him?" I sat at the edge of my seat not focusing on the fact. I had to stay focused. wanting to hear about the young boy. This Eve of the shadows I needed to know how strong he really was. So I could kill him. Then almost as if he knew from the shadows of the wall he came out. "Eveningwing" I was so startled by his appearance that I fell out of my seat "how do you do that!?" I proclaimed angrily.

"I am a shadow. Therefore I am to say that I'm not a living being, well not one hundred percent anyway.. That means my name would not be in the school system, a part of me is older than the earth itself so I have no need for classes, or even a reason to be here." He exclaimed "Why do you have a whim to see me so badly?" he smiled and put a hand on me. "I'm starting to think that you could swing that way." He looked at me in a way that rubbed me wrong with his blue grey eyes with a more muscular look than I had but about my height.

He was mocking me; they always seem to do that and I could feel it. I pushed his hand off and told him. "I want to kill you for taking my battle away from me and if I would have died I would have lived the warrior's life but instead I'm here thanks to you! You took that away and I want it back!!" I yelled with passion at him slamming my fists as they bang on the table in fury. "Now you'll have to fight me damn it!"

He smiled a bit and looked up uncaring, even his smile seemed cold and heartless. "Why bother fighting a weakling like you are nowhere in my league." He laughed "or do you remember that I saved you..? If not for me you would be in fact dead right now."

"I know what you did and if that's how you feel then prove it today and get it set up by the headmaster." There was a slight pause before the headmaster got on the intercom and told the school I would be fighting the Eve of shadows. I felt my blood boiling but my stomach was uneasy.

Later that day as I went to get ready for the match I thought of what all was said. I knew I was in the wrong but he pissed me off with his high and mighty attitude. I also knew it was going to be hard or even on the side of impossible but I wanted it, I needed to win for myself and my family. to prove I'm not as weak as people think I am. I stood there and the only thing I thought was I hate fighting more than being helped in a fight, But I'm no coward, I can either stand on my own or die trying.

In the arena we stood looking at each other squaring the other up as I saw the anger in his eyes. He wasn't going to go easy not after I practically begged for this. "Let's go all out." I said with a faint smile taking off my over-shirt. Now the moment of truth the bell rings, I took my stance and prepared for the worst. Little did I know that's just what was about to happen to me.

He lashes out at me fast, I try to dodge but his speed was too fast. His fist connected and I slid back. His punches didn't seem too strong, but my eyes hazed over for just a moment, nevertheless. I tried to run at him but his speed was much greater than I thought, before I could have a chance to reach him I saw a shadow behind me. I was able to move out of the way dodging his attack.

he still managed to hit the ground full force causing dust to blow into the air; I dashed into the cloud I couldn't see him well but the same could be said about Eve. I ran for the outline clenching my trembling fist, I swung as hard as I could landing the blow. Yes I did it! I landed a blow and I felt so happy. Then the dust cleared my fist on his cheek and he was pissed as I could tell by the look on his face. This look wasn't like the others he had with fire in his eyes and a frown on his face.

He stood there for a moment, his expression changed altogether as he wiped his thumb on his lip and saw blood he frowned. I knew I messed up as red energy flowed from him. He yelled in anger. "Y-you insect, how dare you!?" he screamed furiously as he shook his head about it. "You'll pay! I have never been touched by anyone, what makes you any better than everyone else!?" the energy he was putting off was crazy, how could someone be this strong. I've heard of beings with supernatural powers but damn.

I was trembling with fear this was way more than I bargained for. Before I could move he was on top of me with a single blow I flew into a wall, it was like he had become a different person all together. My blood filled my mouth as I clenched my teeth and tried to swallow it. I had misjudged him, he wasn't just stronger but faster. He moved like lightning as he grabbed me by my throat throwing me into the air as he appeared behind me out of nowhere as he hit me again and I felt like I was going to die as I collided with the ground.

The blood I was holding in my mouth now covered the sand floor. He landed on me with his foot on my back, my eyes began to water as I felt myself losing consciousness. Everything was becoming a blur, I had made a huge mistake picking this fight. He stomped on my back over and over again as more blood spilled out.

Finally he stopped and turned to walk away. I struggled to stand up, my arms were heavy and my head was down. I had lost and all that was left was to die. "Are you finally giving up on humans?" Eve spoke as his words were knives that cut me deep. I'm a human and I couldn't kill a monster like this and I was crazy to think I stood a chance. "You put up a little fight but in the end a human beating a primal is just not possible."

Anger filled my body, my eyes turned red with rage, my voice got deeper as my anger got the best of me. "I may be human.. But I'm more than that! I have power and I may not be a primal or some other kind of monster, but I can use natural energy and I can kill you! I know I can!! I'm the touch of death!" I charge towards him at full speed but something pushes me back.

I looked at it and to my surprise, massive tails were on his back. They looked as if they were living as they whipped around protecting him. "What is that?!" I was lost at the sight. This couldn't be humanly possible even inhumanly possible. I've never heard or seen a beast like this. "What are you?! some sort of werewolf?!"

Black fur began to cover his body and he put his hands on the ground."I am not a werewolf more like a pure wolf of shadows, a hellhound if you'd like to call me such, but I'm more than even that, more like the light's darkness! I am the first of shadow!" he changed into a large wolf with black fur and a red (S) on its back. He snapped and snarled. This beast was too large for an attack from the front, and I didn't know how to strike it from the back. I had no weapons, I had to run away, I had to flee. It was my only hope of survival.

The fear I felt told me everything I needed to know. I tried to run for the door but as I turned a massive black paw sent me flying, the students watching cheered him on. "Feel my anger! My pain, human!" I landed on my feet and dashed at the beast, dodging the tails as they whipped at me, I fired off an energy shot that slammed into his face. It was tiny in comparison as it hit it's mark.

The massive paw slammed against me again this time from the top and sent me to the floor. What hit me I could only describe as what felt like a large vehicle had hit me at full force. He scooped me up and slammed me into the wall cracking it. 'I really am hating these walls right now..' I thought to myself before it's tail smashed into me and I gasped for air.

It hit me again as I yelled in pain while my back cracked, but I was able to get up once again to go another round. I wasn't going to lose there had to be a way to win and I had one last idea. 'If I fired a blast of energy large enough I could maybe get him to use up that massive energy to heal himself.' I thought as I turned to him and called on everything I had to put in at a single point and fire but I couldn't move, "I won't die here.. Do you hear me?!" I yelled.

"Same here human.." Eve said as he fired his own shot. 'No! If they cancel out I'll be beat but I don't have enough to move!' I thought as the two blasts hit each other but instead of cancelling the other out they cut one another in half, one hitting me the other hitting Eve as smoke filled the room, and I began to black out in the process unsure if I had hurt that monster. When the smoke cleared it stood there unharmed and I fell barely breathing. It couldn't be was I going to die here..?
