6 Chapter Six: Demons and Shadows

The weeks that followed seemed like everything was going smoothly in the school. No real problems occurred, really a few fights here and there, but nothing major. That was until the day Eve bumped into Alexander in the hallway. I heard Eve yelling from down the hall, and ran to the noise and they were inches from each other. This was like two monsters that saw one another and instantly got angry. They were bowed up and in each other's face. "Watch it you hack! You think you're the best around here huh?! You haven't fought more than once since you got here.." Eve looked pissed. "Everyone is just scared because of the rumors, I bet you're weak."

"Is that so?" Alexander's voice was very confident, his words swift like a knife cutting through flesh as his smile sent chills down my spine. His canine teeth were enlarged so his smile showed them off nicely. He wore no shirt so you could see his muscles, But he did have a jet black sleeveless duster on which flowed in the wind behind him. His pants made him look like the goth kid at a normal school. His eyes were red and menacing but showed no anger or really any emotions. He held himself just like a king would as well. "I think you're an overzealous egotistical puppy dog, boy. Biting off more than you can chew." I knew he said that to get on Eve's nerves and it was working. Eve tightened his body taking a step to Alex looking slightly up at him.

"Well I bet you're nothing more than a scared little kid hiding behind his rumor." Eve proclaimed I could hear the anger in his voice. I rushed over to them in each other's face. Alexander had his hands crossed and chest puffed out showing his dominance. Eve was waving his arms by his sides. The fire in Eve's eyes burned hot as an inferno.

On the other end Alexander's were as cold as ice. "You're all bark and no bite." Eve grabbed him by his duster growling. I never seen Eve get hit so hard in the time I've known him. Alexander had reached back and hit him so hard in the face I thought for sure it had broken a bone or two as it was sending Eve onto the floor.

Eve picked himself off the floor quickly spitting blood off to the side as he snapped, hitting Alexander back. Alexander didn't even budge; he just swiped Eve's arm off with his and looked at Eve with slight pity. Eve didn't back down though instead he spoke up. "We are settling this today 'the Eve of shadows' will kill 'the god-king' Alexander!" Alex just kept his smile unbothered by Eve's claim that he would kill him.

"Fine by me pup don't worry though just because I'm going to kill you doesn't mean I won't go easy. I still need to put on a good show after all." He replied, "like you did for your little friend." He looked at me. I felt like he was looking into my very soul, then just turned away walking off.

I walk over to Eve and try to calm him down. His hair was wild and he looked like he could go off on the next person who crossed him wrong. I couldn't think of a way to get him all that calm but I tried my best. "Eve you okay man?" He didn't seem to hear me as he stormed off to class.

I saw this not ending well. I've only seen Alex in one real fight and he's only ever been in two and was classed higher than Eve. Even though it was only by one it meant the school saw Alex as a stronger person. Now I know it wasn't uncommon that they miss classed students. You can't really know who's stronger until they fight but these two seemed to be in a league of their own. Both had huge amounts of aura pouring out of them, Alex's just screamed killer though. I would hate to cross him and I knew deep down so did Eve.

The day dragged out in silence as I tried to get through him. Even so he never spoke I knew he was not in a good mood with only growls he got that message across very well. As the day grew closer to the fight I finally went over once again to Eve in the gym. Practically begging him not to fight. "This is crazy." I had tried to stop him several times. He wouldn't have any of it. He was determined to put an end to Alexander's reign. His face looked like he was going to bite my head off if I kept trying so I finally gave up. "Be safe okay." I walked to the bleachers and sat down.

The headmaster started by calling on them while he stood on his podium, they stepped into the sand arena. Eve stood snarling at the monstrosity that stood there smiling at him before him. Alexander cocked his head to the side, yawned and spoke. "I bet my armor is not even scratched you puppy dog. So please make this fun for me, I hate being bored. I tend to go a bit overboard on people when I get bored." Alexander said laughing at Eve. "I would hate not making this fun for the people. Then maybe they will shut up and listen to what their ruler says."

"How many times are you going to call me a puppy?" Eve growled in a low tone. I must have been in shock from it all. I still couldn't believe that this was really happening. Eve looked pissed and scared at the same time. His hands were shaking, his eyes were wild like a cornered animal.

"Would you prefer mongrel?" Alex asked. I saw Eve's body tighten as if he wanted to start the fight then and there to rip Alex's head off his shoulders.

I had a feeling this was going to be bloody so I looked at the headmaster. He would not speak a word nor move a muscle; he just stood there in his spot. He wouldn't blink, or move as he was trying not to miss anything. This was big why wasn't he doing anything. The top two students were gonna kill each other.

"I bet you will be done after one good blow." Eve taunted back at him. They walked around each other scaling and scanning the field preparing for the other. they were getting into the zone. Their eyes narrowed as they focused on their opponent. Growls and laughter filled the gym.

It didn't take long before Zero and Raven came and sat beside me. They both smiled at me. Raven patted my back trying to comfort me. "whoa this is gonna be good." Zero said offering me some food.

"How can you eat at a time like this?" I asked him as I pushed the food away. My stomach couldn't handle the stress right now. The tension that was filling the room.

He just shrugged and started eating. 'How was he so skinny still.' I thought to myself. "It's gonna be a seat filler, that's for sure who's your money on?" He made it sound like a sport so I took after his latest action and blew it off. "Aw come on now don't be so cold bro you know Eve totally has this one in the bag." He knew how I felt and knew the reason I was watching. Eve didn't have this one; it wasn't like some half baked loser challenged him. This was Alexander. His presence alone put people in fear.

"I'm betting on Eve." Raven said smiling at me. "He'll pull through." I smiled back slightly but I could see this wasn't like the other fights, Eve could die. I had to have faith though.

"Don't worry you'll get your chance to kill him bro, Eve won't fall so easily." Zero tried to reassure me. I still hated Eve but I had gotten past the killing him part. It was just I had a little self hatred there.I still had a bad feeling about this fight though Alex was strong. You can always tell how strong someone is by their aura, or so Raven said. And if so the mass of golden aura around Alex was a good sign he was really strong.

Then the bell rang and the fight was on, so I thought they stood there. They didn't move a muscle as they looked the other up and down. Not a sound was made in the entire room until the air conditioning kicked on. That's when they began to hit each other testing  the other's power. They would hit each other anywhere they could. If Eve would hit Alex's chest Alex would hit his face. Alex kicked Eve to the ground, Eve would counter with a kick to his leg knocking him to the ground. They stood up keeping the momentum going. Blow for blow they didn't stop. Finally Alex landed a good blow causing Eve to slide back; but Eve quickly charged in and did the same. The more they fought the stronger they seemed to get.

I was impressed at the power that they had. They weren't using any weapon's that I could see, But they were still the top students by far. There was no way I would have kept up at this rate. They didn't even seem tired. I guess when Eve told me he wasn't going all out that was the truth. 'damn here I thought I was closing the gap.' Alex spun around hitting Eve with the back of his fist. Blood dripped from Eve's lip.

Alex's fist connected with Eves chest knocking the air out of him for a moment. The raw power of Alex's punches were crazy but Eve had him in speed it seemed as he quickly kicked Alex in the head sending him to the ground a few feet away giving himself some distance. Alex just stood back up like nothing had happened, spitting out a little blood and smiled.

Eve tried to sweep Alex's legs but he moved to the side out the way and tried to hit Eve in the face. Eve rolled from the blow causing Alex to hit the wall, Then Eve charged his aura into his hand and fired a surge of kai from his hand. It hit Alex head on and seemed to hit hard with that Eve had to have won. Maybe I was worried for nothing Alex could hit hard but couldn't take a hit it seemed. Eve pointed and laughed at Alex. "How'd you like that god-king?"

Dark grey smoke filled the air and took a minute to clear. Alex was standing there unharmed, He didn't even move an inch it seemed. "Well I think you'll have to do better than that to hurt me." Eve tried again and again but Alex never budged. "Are you done yet I'm quite bored." Alex actually was frowning at this, he moved his hair out of his face. And spoke in a monotone voice unimpressed. "You don't get it do you? You can't hurt me like that. I'm like a god compared to you."

Eve was so enraged at Alex's comment that he dashed at him not thinking of what might happen. He was met by a fist that sent him flying back into the wall. Alex was too strong; he ran and grabbed Eve by the hair and slammed him into a wall again. The school began to shake a bit. This was crazy; they could actually destroy the school at this rate. Alex was relentless with his attacks as he began hitting Eve's face and chest. My body shook in fear as this started to remind me of the fight with John But this was Eve. He had skills and abilities I didn't have, I saw Him try to sink into a shadow but his opponent wouldn't let him. Alex ripped him off his feet and took to the air so there were no shadows around for Eve to run to. Alex kept hitting him with his free hand, before throwing him through the air and smashing him to the ground with his boot in Eve's face. Eve had to do something fast, Alex totally had the upper hand.

It started to look hopeless to me as he tried to push Alex off of him. Eve launched shadows at Alex wrapping around his arms and started to pull Alex off with them. In retaliation Alex began to stomp on his face. I turned away in horror this wasn't a fight this was a massacre. I don't think anyone could stop Alex at this point as he was grinding his boot on Eve's face.

Eve tried to fire another blast this one close range but Alex's reflexes were too fast as. dodged jumping into the air, brilliant red wings and gold wings opened from his back as he took flight. What the hell he was a real demon.  "Hahaha so slow little dog. Do you know who I am?"

"Little, how dare you call me little, I'll kill you!" he changed it to his wolf mode. his tail whipped around as he swung at Alex, but Alex just flew around him not letting Eve touch him. Alex laughed gliding around avoiding Eve's attacks as if this whole thing was a joke. "stay still!" Eve finally hit him with his tail and slammed him on the ground. 'Perfect that was just what he needed.' I clinged my fist in joy. That'll teach that demon who's best. Eve finally had the upper hand and began to bombard the area Alex was with attacks. kai blasts and paws smashed into the sand. 'This was it no way Alex could withstand all of this.' I smiled happily.

"Go Eve!" Raven yelled from beside me. She was pleased by his move, I was too. "See I knew he had it in him Kimora."

"Told you he had this." Said Zero. What was I worried about? Sure Alex was a demon but Eve wasn't a push over himself.

My joy faded away as Alex stood up, his body covered in a shiny metal with a red core on his chest. He began to laugh as it disappeared. "That was way better, mongrel." Alex smiled. "Man this is fun, that was a close one huh?" He pointed at Eve and bared his teeth. "I've seen all this before, show me something new and a little doggy I know what I am going up against. You can't hide it forever." Eve slammed his paw onto Alex, who just stood there holding up his arm. The crash shook the whole school. But Alex was still unharmed. I couldn't believe what I saw. How could he do that? I never heard of any demons with some kind of metal armor that had a will of its own like this.

Eve's roars of anger filled the school as he kept slamming his paw down full force onto Alex, his paw which came down like a tank started causing a crater on the floor. He saw that it didn't faze Alex and swiped his paw, sending him through a pillar of the building. Alex just stood back up, smiling at Eve dusting himself off. "Wow that was really something." He popped his bones as he stretched. 'Was he really not able to be hurt.' I thought to myself. 'could a monster like this really exist.'

Alex laughed more his laugh was painful and the fact he kept laughing all the time made it worse. "now don't look so unpleasant." He took off running at Eve who whipped his tail around at him. This time Alex grabbed it flipping Eve onto the ground. "Here take a seat."

Eve hit ground hard enough to change back to himself and the whole battle was basically over, now it was Alexander's turn to go on the offensive, And he was ready to end it.

There was still something wrong with Eve though. His hair wasn't bristled, he seemed calm almost as he too began to laugh, but this wasn't like Alex's laugh; this one was anger induced. He wasn't acting like himself or even when I fought him. Could he really have a trump card he had been keeping secret, or had he finally lost it. "I'm sick of this. You're really going to make me do it huh? You damn Demon fine then..." Eve's voice changed. It was deeper and now it made my blood boil and freeze at the same time. his eyes changed from their soft brown to a blue-ish color and he was hunched over laughing. When he stood up straight he stopped laughing and yelled "kill him now Þriðirinn! Kill him where he stands!" all of a sudden it was as if he was a totally new person. His aura burst through the area, whipping around him in a massive swirl. The aura was a clear blackish color like looking through sunglasses Unlike his normal light blue.

Alex began to clap as his smile grew bigger. "There we have it ladies and gentlemen. The first shadow ever to exist. Þriðirinn." Alex turned completely metal before he reached into the center of his chest pulling off a weird little red orb. "I'm going to have to use my full demonic power for this one." He grew horns and a thin black tail.
