1 Chapter One: Enrollment

This isn't your picture perfect story, and I'm aware my ending isn't an amazing one, but this is what happened to me and I feel I should tell my story and let you judge it for what it is. With that said some people say home is where the heart is, or a living Hell is what you make it. I disagree, my heart isn't here anymore. I have lost everything that I cared about and now Hell is a place on earth, and I think I found "it".

That Hell is right here on literally, right where I'm standing. They call this place a school but all I saw was a prison, monsters of all types were locked away behind it's doors and this is where I was going to be for the rest of my life. I stood at the great iron doors along with a dozen or so of people, the building was huge. I couldn't believe I was here, this is the Hell I was talking about and I just wanted to scream.

My name you may ask is Kimora Zato and I am seventeen years old. My hair just touches my shoulders in an orange mess and I have brown eyes though they tend to turn red from time to time when I'm angry. I love to wear the color black, my jeans have a few tears in them and my shirt is very large on me and I'm not very toned anywhere except my legs.

My parents died in a car accident years ago, my brother is somewhere in this awful world hopefully and my sister well, she was murdered somewhere about three years later. That's why I'm here; I killed the bastards that took her away from me. Killer, sounds about right, right..? People called us the unlucky family around here, which is another one of the reasons why I am here; I'm not going to go into too much detail on the act I commited to get here, just know I did the world a favor honestly. Those monster's didn't even deserve to be called humans after what they did, even more so knowing they've killed over five hundred people. They got what was coming to them, they deserved to know how it felt to be dead. Just thinking about it gets my blood boiling, I can't help but grind my teeth thinking about it.

Why didn't the authorities do anything you ask? Well simple, see not too long ago the world found out about real monsters like vampires, werewolves, and demons. That is when the humans of the world stopped noticing the bad things other humans were doing, think of it like they found out about the boogie man therefore an axe wielding psychopath gets off the hook.

That is what sent us into world war four, and ultimately the world went to shit. After the war the world decided to make a new type of jail like schools to teach, train, and mold, the kids that would snap and kill and the monster's they could catch would be locked away. Caging up the monster's even though so many existed that no one still knew about. The world no longer has the great militaries like it used to. They couldn't trust who was human and who wasn't and this was a scary world where only the strong could survive and they ended up here at this school. This is Kynoto High.

Now I'm here in this nightmare. Where to survive you have to kill the person next to you, and if you don't follow the rules.. You die and the only 'real' rule is survive in this lion's den. Everyone else gets put to rest.

I watched as more people gathered and began to talk to one another. The chatter of the people filled my hypersensitive ears, they were all talking about what was going on and what was going to happen to us. Then as they talked the doors opened ever so slowly and an old man stood there, he had a clean look and seemed to be in his late fifties, the crowd of people that were talking a moment ago grew silent at this point. 'Who was this man?' I thought to myself, and why is he so important?

It didn't take long for him to speak as he looked out into the crowd at all of us. He smiled a bit before he spoke, "Hello everyone I am your Headmaster. This year you will be in for a treat for all of us here; as I have decided that you all will be fighting people already in the school." Angry voices rose from the crowd saying that this was unfair and how they didn't deserve this kind of treatment. He simply ignored them and kept talking like they didn't matter. The fact that what he thought he was correct truly upset me a little. I couldn't make out all of what he said but I heard at the end. "So if you all would follow me, I will lead you to the gymnasium." He didn't seem too bothered by the noise as he just turned and walked inside as though nothing happened. No one moved for a moment then a few started to go in one at a time, then more and more.

Finally we all made our way past the great hall and on the left you could almost taste the food being prepared as it made my stomach growl so loud I swore everyone heard it. I just grabbed it and thought maybe soon, If I'm lucky, the gymnasium was pretty close to the food hall. Maybe that was the point; most of us were starving so put food there and we'd be ready to kill for it. My stomach ached at the thought of killing someone just for sport, yet it was a necessary evil.

Once inside the gym I sat at the top of the bleachers away from everyone. I didn't want to be too close to anyone really and keeping my distance from the others to the best I could was my only chance of survival. I knew half of these people weren't going to see tomorrow, not that I didn't have faith just looking at them, they just didn't have what a killer needed.

One kid about my age really didn't have it, the poor guy came and sat beside me. He looked more like a dog with shaggy short brown hair that was matted up and his clothes were torn to pieces, and he was wearing a black spiked collar with a weird symbol that looks kinda like a wolf on a circle name tag. He was skinny to the point you could see bones like he hadn't eaten in a very long time and honestly he looked worse than I did.

"Hey!" He said to me happily with a genuine smile. 'That wouldn't last long.' I thought to myself. His stomach growled extremely loud, he just ignored it as he spoke again. "I'm Zero nice to meet you." I just looked at him confused; He seemed so happy yet he was about to look death in the face In more than one way. "What's your name?"

'lf his opposite didn't kill him, starvation certainly would.' I began to think as I scooted away from him sitting there a bit in silence trying not to speak to him but I felt kind of bad for him so I figured why not. "I'm Kimora." I replied as I was surprised that he wasn't bothered by me that much. I was kind of glad he was the first person I met in a while that was kind to me. He was new so I wouldn't have to worry about fighting him, or that was what the headmaster had said.

Zero just smiled as he kept talking like I didn't want to. "It's nice to meet you Kimmy." He began to shake his left leg tapping the heel on the ground. This guy had so many shacks it was like he had some kind of bug, He shook his head and scratched like some sort of animal. Man this kid was weird. He paused from his scratching long enough to speak to me."So Kimmy isn't this kinda exciting? I mean it's scary as well but man to think that you could get to be here in this place with all this great food." The sound of him mocking my name upset me, and the fact he was more worried about food just proved my point of why the cafeteria was so close. He was a very strange kid so happy, so energetic. 'Why was he here?' I couldn't help but to think. He couldn't do too much in his shape. He was all skin and bones, no muscle really. it was sad to think that he definitely wasn't getting in here for long.

The more time passed and more people began to fill the bleachers. One by one they gathered and talked to each other and the sound of chatter filled the air again, I could hear parts of conversations. Talk of how they got here, who they killed, what race they were. It was all circumstantial and I could feel my blood getting colder as they talked more. They all disgusted me.

After about fifteen minutes Everyone had taken their seats and the headmaster stepped up on a podium. He began giving his speech, He seemed to talk for a while. Then once he was done talking that's when it began; The headmaster started calling the names of new enrollees and old students matching them up. One after another the horrible fighting began. These were no ordinary fights. oh no these fights had a prize; the prize for this blood and gore... Life! A battle to the death where the fight wasn't over until one would be dead and the winner would get to stay here in this god forsaken place.

Over again I watched as people would enter the gym floor, and I watched as one of them fell to the floor dead. I quickly got sick to my stomach from this to the point I threw up as I watched another person be killed. This was the most sickening I've watched. These people shouldn't have to kill each other just to live another day. It was then that I heard it.

"Kimora Zato." My name was called. I didn't know what to do, my heart was pounding; my head began spinning as I began to sweat. I stepped into the middle of the gym and I wanted to vomit again. I looked down at my feet, That's when I noticed that the floor was sand. I assumed to soak up the blood and sweat from the fights, the sand did cause a small problem for me. It was cold on my bare feet and I couldn't move too fast or I'd fall. This wasn't a good thing. "You seem to be strong; I hope you are because you're fighting John."

The crowd of old students roared hearing the name of the cold blooded killer. I saw his name on the top ten strongest of the school. Of course I'd get one of those guys. 'Fuck me.' I thought to myself 'didn't They call

him the demon of Kynoto or something?'

He stood up, his face scarred and his eyes looked cold and dead. There was no anger, no remorse, nothing in them. They just looked like hollow windows inside.

Compared To me he was a giant, like a hulking monster moving through a crowd as he walked with his back straight; he had no problem showing off his muscles or how strong he was. He held a two-handed axe in his left hand, his muscles bulged as he walked, I was terrified by this. He was so tall that I had to look up at him, his eyes were a cold black brown color. He slammed the axe down burying the blade in the sand at my feet. Basically he said he didn't need it to kill me; And in a way I knew he was right. He was a monster.

As the bell rang starting the match. My first instinct was to get close. He wasted no time though as he came at me fast and hard hitting my jaw; that was a game changer. I felt my body go numb from the blow as I hit the floor. The sheer power of him was too much for me, and my eyes began to glaze over from the blow. I didn't want to move off of it but had to. I stand up in pain hunched over only to be hit in the back sending me crashing back to the floor. What the fuck was with this guy he hit like a tank.

The Sand off the floor filled my mouth and eyes. I tried to spit it out but he just landed another hit before I could do anything not giving me a break. Pain from each blow rushed over my body as he hit me relentlessly. Each one left a mark in my mind and thoughts filled my head saying I was going to die here. This was the worst I've ever felt in a very long time. What was I thinking to go through all of this? All I wanted at this moment was a swift death.

The more he hit me I began to spit up blood and the pain kept flooding in. I was finally able to roll out the way and sat up and on my knees. I could do to stay calm was to think of what I was fighting for; Luna forgive your brother for being weak. I was to the point I just wanted to get this over with and I saw my life flash before my eyes. it wasn't pretty but mom, dad, big brother, little sis I loved you. One more blow, that's all I can take. Just one more was it. I knew I would die just not this fast.

He raised up his fist to deliver the final blow. I winced as I saw his fist coming down on me, Then for some odd reason he stopped moving. He stood there a moment and then his body fell over, and he just died. I don't know what happened but for some reason only I was alive. I fell over and began breathing heavily. Everyone was confused about what just happened, I was too.

I was unable to move it felt like every bone in my body had been broken. I had to be rushed to the infirmary after that so I missed the rest of the matches which to me was for the best. I didn't really care to see anymore. I was worried about Zero a little but he was a big boy.

I tossed and turned in the bed that night. I was woken up to a noise as if I heard a voice in the room with me. "You're welcome," it said seemingly from nowhere waking me up. "You seemed to know that you didn't kill him."

I spin my head around the dimly lit room looking for the person that the voice belonged to. "Who are you?" I replied, it didn't look like anyone had come in so I turned on the light. "Where are you?"

"My name is Eveningwing Rivers. You may call me Eve the shadows everyone else seems to." The voice said from wherever it came from. I was so puzzled how could someone talk that wasn't there that I could tell. "and as far as where.." Then my shadow waved at me. I jumped a bit in my bed. "Anyway, I'm so sorry for killing that guy but I felt a connection that something told me you are needed for the God's bigger plan."

I laugh at those words "the God's plan.. I don't know how you are doing that with my shadow, but look around where we are right now!?" I yell angrily that the voice "We are in hell, a living hell. And we are stuck here!" I slammed my fist down on a tray of food.

"True but even the god's have a plan." A young man stepped out of the shadow I was casting on the wall. I jumped back from this. I never sent something like that. He just seamlessly walked out a shadow as if it was nothing new for someone to see. He was tall and looked quite toned. with long black hair that had white tips that stopped in the middle of his back. He had a coldness to him as if he was sad in a way. His clothing was a nice black suit that looked nice and clean if you'd call it that. A bell rings and he looks up. "I must go for now, but we will get to know each other better in due time." Then he vanished into the same shadow.
