4 Eggs and Appraisal

I just proceeded to stare at the egg I just released. It happened fast, really fast. I only noticed once I felt it pop out too.

I just ate a full spider the size of me so I can't necessarily say I'm hungry at all. It would be a waste to eat this now or just leave it here so taking it with me is the best but is there a way? It's not like I necessarily have hands to carry it and I might drop it if I carry it under my wing.

I believe it'll be best to remain here, at least for a couple of hours. This high cliff is relatively advantageous in battles as shown with the spider. If we were on even ground, I might have just been doomed.

While I wait, I should prepare for the next time an event like this could occur. Just thinking how that spider was considered small, even though it's one of the smallest creatures in the other world, concerns me.

Perhaps the animal that made the hole I saw before really was a mole.

At my current size, martial arts are ineffective against anything like that spider and bigger unless I have the necessary strength. I'm a chicken so I sure do not yet have it.

I think my time would be best to formulate evasive movements I can take or the most effective surprise attacks. I'm unsure if I could beat any monster in a frontal attack currently.

Moving my eggs to a little indent in the labyrinth floor so it doesn't roll, I began moving.

If something is running at me, the best thing would be to evade left or right fast.

However, depending on their height. I might be able to jump up again. That could leave me open until I touch the floor and is especially bad if my opponent has fast movement. The above is not a good option as I thought.

Standing straight, looking forward, and counting down from three, I stretched my right wing on and slammed it close to my body again in hopes to go to the side quickly.

This resulted in me slamming against the floor, and sliding a little. I believe jumping my help.

I attempted the same movement once again but jumped slightly before I flapped my wing and I successfully moved 3 meters to the right. Trying to replicate the same thing on the left side, I succeeded too.

Unfortunately, 3 meters is by no means a lot. While I may be able to dodge the taractect, due to its legs, it can spin and change directions very easily.

I need to launch a counterattack somehow, because I can't dodge constantly, I don't think I'll outlast that in a battle of stamina in my current state. While I might be able to tank a bite from it at this rate due to my resistance and stronger self after the level-up, I'd rather not test it out.

So the only possible way to survive is to evade but perhaps I could try leveling my skills first? More options would surely be available to me if I do so, and thinking of doing something impossible to me currently won't get me very far.

Let's try Wing Propulsion first. It's important to move fast and this should help with that.

I walked to the edge of the cliff and jumped off, flapping my wings the entire way. When landing, I jumped in place and attempted to keep myself in the air while flapping my wings rapidly. I was making progress for 5 seconds until I fell.

At this rate, once Wing Propulsion gets to a higher level, I might be able to actually fly around. That would help me navigate a lot and make fights and fleeing much easier.

After I did that, I went back to the cliff wall while simultaneously appraising everything around me, and jumped up in two steps, as I did before.

I then repeated the whole process over and over and on the 6th time, I received what I was looking for.

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Wing Propulsion LV2』 has become 『Wing Propulsion LV3』"

Nice, I raised it higher. This isn't something I can do too much though, since it is extremely taxing on my body. I don't think I sweat, but if I did, I would probably be sweating buckets right now.

Sitting near the egg I laid, I was catching my breath while still appraising things in the background. Information was flooding my brain constantly and if I were anyone else, I would've gotten a severe headache. I'm not sure about the level increasing soon though, I believe I'll have to do more exploring if I want an appraisal to rise in level.

Once I fully calmed down, I stood up once again and started pecking the floor in hopes to increase my other skill. Each peck left slight indents on the floor but other than that, there was nothing. It's like marking a wooden surface with a fingernail, except it's a bird slamming its beak against a hardened stone floor.

I had to change how my beak hit the floor to ensure maximum damage but little harm to myself. It's closely related to how punching with your index and middle finger knuckles are more effective than punching with your ring finger and pinky finger knuckles.

It took a little while to get the hang of it, but after let's say 100 pecks...

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Piercing Beak LV2』 has become 『Piercing Beak LV3』"

Leveling this skill was significantly less tiring than doing the wing one. After an hour or so of pecking, I manage to increase the level twice over and tired myself out once again.

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Mental Arithmetic LV3』 has become 『Mental Arithmetic LV4』"

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Piercing Beak LV3』 has become 『Piercing Beak LV4』"

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Mental Arithmetic LV4』 has become 『Mental Arithmetic LV5』"

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Piercing Beak LV4』 has become 『Piercing Beak LV5』"

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Mental Arithmetic LV5』 has become 『Mental Arithmetic LV6』"

My hypothesis was right with skill leveling. It takes longer to level when at a higher level than it is to level at a lower level.

I was bored while pecking so I also did plenty of calculations, raising Mental Arithmetic to level 6. I always did math near instantly but somehow, I've gotten faster with this skill. Calming myself down to take another break, I got more notifications from voice-san

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Thought Acceleration LV3』 has become 『Thought Acceleration LV4』"

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Parallel Thinking LV2』 has become 『Parallel Thinking LV3』"

It was surprising I leveled these as well but I was doing plenty of math and appraisal during the training session so I suppose it makes sense. These two skills only seem to level after they are stopped being used, not while they still are. I am unsure why but I suppose it's nice they upgraded at all.

During this, I also tried holding onto the floor with my claws in order to level Iron Grip, but it seemed to raise nothing. I'm guessing I can level it while flapping my wings and keeping myself down with my talons. I should be able to level both skills faster that way, ignoring the thought ones, but this body is too exhausted to do so currently.

Not only that, I just felt a rush of hunger.

Looking at the egg to my right, I, Ayanokoji Kiyotaka, started to eat it.

I pecked the matte white shell, breaking it apart, and letting the egg whites start to flow out slightly I started slurping and drinking them while the eggs were still intact. Once all the whites were gone, I broke the shell more, and picked apart the yok, lifting my head up and down to eat it.

Just remembering that eggshells are said to be a great source of calcium, I also started breaking it into smaller pieces and ate that, something I should've done with my previous egg. Once I finished everything I exhaled, realizing my eggs tasted better than that spider.

Finishing the yok, the voice rang through my head unexpectedly.

"Conditions met. Title 『Kin Eater』 was acquired"

"By the effects of the title 『Kin Eater』, skill 『Taboo LV1』『Heresy Magic LV1』 was acquired"

Kin? Is a chicken eating its own egg considered a form of cannibalism? Also, Taboo and Heresy magic, no matter how you slice it, sounds like bad luck. The magic piqued my interest though.

If that egg tasted better than the spider, I really should cook them someday and it might taste even better.

"By the effects of the skill 『Diverge LV1』, skill 『Piercing Beak LV1』『Iron Grip LV1』『Wing Propulsion LV1』『Night Vision LV2』 『Eggs LV1』was acquired"

Wait...

"『Piercing Beak LV1』 has Unifed into 『Piercing Beak LV6』"

"『Iron Grip LV2』 has Unifed into 『Iron Grip LV3』"

"『Wing Propulsion LV3』 has Unifed into 『Wing Propulsion LV4』"

"『Night Vision LV2』 has Unifed into 『Vision Expansion LV2』"

" 『Eggs LV1』 has Unifed into 『Eggs LV3』"

"Every skill absorbed due to compatibility"

Huh...

"Every basic ability rose"

"Every stat absorbed due to compatibility"

Wow, how intriguing.

I got the title so the egg I ate was considered alive. I think Diverge works for things alive then and versus last time, I received everything. It said due to compatibility so I guess if I eat chickens, I gain everything they have.

Also, the Eggs skill was one I did not have originally, but this one did. Does that mean I'm a male chicken who lays eggs and the one in the egg was female? What does leveling the egg skill do though?

Does it make me lay them faster or the ones inside the eggs are stronger? A mixture of both? I do not know enough about this world, the majority of things are a mystery. Perhaps buying Detection could help.

Voice-san, buy detection

"Insufficient skill points"

So apparently, levels don't provide 100 skill points every time but something less than that.

Let's try Maddening Evil Eye:

"Insufficient skill points"

It doesn't provide 50 skill points either. Trying to imagine a really basic and useless skill, I came up with Suicide:

"Insufficient skill points"

Apparently, this skill is either too much or doesn't exist. I couldn't understand the point of it but anyways, back to making omelets.

I can't necessarily make a fire here though. Not only do I lack wood, but it could also attract attention and create too many fumes.

Wait, didn't magic exist? If there is such a thing as heresy magic shouldn't there be fire magic?

"Insufficient skill points"

I'd like to assume it is rather expensive as the ones less relatable to me cost more and the ones more suited cost less. Fire magic does sound more useful too, I wonder about the cost of it.

If I can't buy anything yet, it's best to level Appraisal more, as that's the only analytical skill I have. That means more exploration.

I should be fine if I come across another spider or so I'd like to think. Running back and forth, I'd like to say I'm about the same speed as the spider now, maybe due to the multiple stat increases I received. I still feel slightly slower but I should manage since they don't have human-like brains.

If I let that other one catch me, I felt like it would've jumped straight at me, with no other process going on in its head besides catching me. Pecking the floor once again, I nodded by moving my next up and down.

The previous pencil mark size indent was now the size of a water bottle lid. That still doesn't seem much, but if it's on stone, it should be plenty enough for flesh.

Deciding that going down the cliff into the next area would be the best, I flew down and started strolling in that direction while appraising everything I saw. After walking around for a bit, it was the same as it was earlier before I saw the taratect.

Empty.

At this point, I believe sleep and hunger are not common for animals in this world, hence why I stopped pursuing either and fully focused on becoming stronger. After wandering around a bit I came across yet another cliff but this time, the elevation difference was huge. If I hadn't received the extra night vision from the spider which evolved into vision expansion, I might not have been able to see down there.

While they were all so far away so being attacked by them was little to worry about, I was still shocked nonetheless.

『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』 『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』『Elroe Mowajitz』

That seemed to be the deer-like monster with sharp, sword-like antlers. Not only that there were around 25 of them grouped up, meaning they attack in packs. If that wasn't concerning, they were multiple times larger than the small lesser taratect I encountered.

『Elroe Barkog』『Elroe Barkog』『Elroe Barkog』『Elroe Barkog』『Elroe Barkog』『Elroe Barkog』

I also saw wolf-like creatures down there with six legs in a pack of six.

『Lesser Earth Dragon』

Off in the corner, a Tyrannosaurus rex with wings was resting, off to the side, and based on its name, It was a dragon. Wasn't it close to a wyvern though due to two legs and two wings?

I heard a slight screeching sound and then, looking up, I saw bat hybrids on the roof and a concerning amount of them.

『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』『Elroe Rodeba』

Let's make myself scarce now, I'd rather not die since I'm certain, I won't be able to take on one of these monsters, even by themselves.

"Skill proficiency reached. Skill 『Appraisal LV2』 has became 『Appraisal LV3』"

Never mind, let's try scanning them all one more time. Perhaps it'll raise my experience since there should be more information to see now

Starting with the dragon:

『Lesser Earth Dragon LV 9』

It provides levels now? This is vital to gauge opponents' strengths.

Appraising all the other ones, I quickly retreated.

They all had one thing in common. They were level 10 and below. And some of them had different appearances and species names.

Can animals evolve like a skill...?

If so, what can a chicken evolve into? A giant chicken?

A dinosaur? No, that would be a de-evolution.

Perhaps the mythological creature cockatrice?

(I made this and I have no idea why it has 3 legs : ( )

If dragons exist, I wouldn't be surprised if this existed as well.

Leaving the place finally before some animal noticed me, I turned back going down the opposite tunnel.

Walking while testing the newly leveled appraisal on myself, I got:

It still says Tiny Lesser Chicken, but what does it mean by that?

『Tiny Lesser Chicken: The most common form of livestock in this world』

I could appraise the name.

Can I appraise anything else too?

『Chicken: A passive bird type monster』

Chickens are considered monsters here it seems. Due to it still being kept as livestock and it being called passive, it's still somewhat like an animal it seems...

Can I see skills now?

Searching for a bit, but it wasn't available just yet.

Well, let's keep on appraising everything to upgrade it more. Not even a few seconds later, something interesting was picked up.

『Small lesser Taratect LV 5 No name』

I don't know the level of the past one but this seems rather dangerous...
