Chapter 4- Stone Mask Acquired

----------------

-The Stone Mask.

Stone Masks were the powerful ancient artifacts featured in the first two parts of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency.

They were originally introduced as sacrificial devices used by certain Vampiric cults hidden within the Aztec Empire.

Mounted ornamentally in the Joestar family estate by George Joestar I, one Stone Mask eventually transforms Dio Brando into a Vampire, extending his life, as well as his influence over a significant proportion of the series.

In Part 2, it is revealed that the Stone Masks were designed by Kars in an attempt to grant his race the ability to withstand sunlight.

Just a look at the mask can make anyone feel chill running through their body.

"Come on, Dio, I will take you to your room. You can give your luggage to the servants."

George said as one of the servants took his luggage and started to climb the stairs.

"Oh, Sir Joestar, what is that-?"

Dio stood on the stairs as he pointed at the whitish-grey mask hanging on the wall by the stairs.

George stopped and looked at the mask that Dio was pointing at. A sad light flashed in his eyes as he recalled the details of the stone mask.

"That mask... that mask was a work of art that Jojo's mother bought from a merchant a long time ago. Other than that I dont much about its origin."

The mast had been hanging on the wall too long. He would have ignored it like every other day if not for Dio mentioning it today.

"That... Can I take the Mask?"

With a troubled face and acting as guilty and innocent as could look.

George just looked at him in confusion and as if something dawned on him, with a small smile, he said, "Haha, if you want it, you can take it from the collection."

George felt that Dio might be attracted somehow to the mask, and he could feel the guilt in his voice. This made him think that Dio might have a hobby of collecting antiques.

After all boys in their teenage have a lot of unique hobbies. It is normal for Dio to feel curiosity toward unique and strange objects, antiques, or gadgets.

"Thank you very much, Sir Joestar!"

Acting as he was very happy, he thanked George as he slowly decent the stairs and walked over to the Stone Mask, and took it off the wall.

He felt the rough texture as he slowly caressed its surface.

The conventional Stone Mask has the appearance of a somewhat-masculine face, its eyeholes sharp and somewhat slanted. It has a small mouth in either a neutral position or a slight smile, with full lips, and small fangs resting on the bottom lip. A ridge emerges from the bottom of the forehead, running vertically to the Mask's top, joining with another ridge extending into a spiral resting on the left of its forehead.

The Stone Mask owned by George Joestar I bore four short lines of writing on the reverse side of the forehead. Written in an obscure, semi-cursive script, the significance of the writing is unexplained. The Masks featured small cracks and other signs of wear, likely due to their age.

A small smirk crept on Dio's face as he felt the things flow smoothly for him.

'All According to Keikaku.'

After taking the mask, Dio followed George to his new room.

---

After a brief tour of the Joestar Mansion, Dio finally followed George to his room, where he would spend several years.

"Dio, from now on, this is your room. You can unload your baggage and rest for a while. I think that you will be tired from your journey after all."

George opened the door as he said that. The room was very spacious. It can be seen that the room was recently prepared for Dio as all the furniture and daily necessities were all new.

Dio admired his room as even in his previous he never had a personal room assigned to himself until he reached his adulthood and got a little successful and started to rent a new house with his little sister to escape from his Drunkard farther.

"Dio, your room is just opposite to JoJo's. If you have any questions or need anything, you can ask JoJo. You don't need to be shy about it. He has lived here for twelve years and he knows almost everything about this house."

George said this to the 'twelve-year-old' Dio in a low gentle voice and patted him on his shoulder and assured him.

Dio turned his body toward George and said solemnly, "Thank you very much, Sir Joestar. I will 'repay' you for all the kindness you have shown me." His voice was solemn and sounded serious.

"Haha, Dio, you don't need to repay me anything. I just hope you grow up well and be successful. Your father.. saved my life. What I'm doing is to repay his kindness...", George wanted to continue but realizing that his sentence would have hurt the child, he didn't continue. Instead, he changed the subject.

"Dio, you can familiarize yourself with the environment. And I will be finding a suitable school for study in a few days."

George said nervously and after patting Dio on his shoulder, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving behind Dio and Jojo.

"Dio, after you have rested enough, I'll show you the nearby river! It's a nice place to rest in peace!"

Dio nodded to Jonathan and replied with a smile. "I will wait for you then."

After a few small talks, Jojo also left. Unknown to him, Dio was looking at his back with a sharp eye and a small smirk.

'Just you wait Jonathan. Although I feel a little bad for destroying the same family that gave me the shelter, I will destroy everything that will lead to my downfall. After all the things are going down according to my plans. Hmuf, time to make a few more plans for future.'
