The Orb

The affinity assessment then continued.

Then it was finally Lawrence's turn, he stood next to the orb and cut his palm with the knife and let the orb soak it up.

A saber then started to float towards him and he grabs it.

Ms. Melinda then nods and gestures for the next student to come forth.

I look toward Lawrence and give him a thumbs up.

He smiles at me as he goes to one of the training dummies to test his saber.

After a bit more students got tested then it was finally my turn.

I approach the pillar and grab the knife and cut my palm.

I let out a small groan as the blood starts flowing from the wound and into the orb.

The orb shines and not long after, a longsword then starts to float toward me.

I grab it and nod to Ms. Melinda and immediately go to one of the training dummies to test it out.

I swing my sword to test the sharpness, the training dummy gets cut in half.

but after 10 seconds it reassembles itself.

I swung my sword a couple more times to get more and more used to my longsword.

"Okay, now that the affinity assessment is finally done, please find a duel partner" Ms. Melinda suddenly orders us.

I look for Lawrence in the chamber but before I could approach him, a student suddenly got in front of me.

"Hey, commoner duel with me," He says to me with a smug on his face,

"I refuse" I reply to him

"But you see, commoners don't have the right to refuse a noble"

I look at his uniform and found another crest.

It bore a symbol of 4 spears raised to the sky.

It was the crest of House Glen, I didn't wear mine because I thought that it was unnecessary.

He was a noble, his name was Kyle Glen he bore black hair, brown eyes and had the same physique as me, his face was also quite average just like me.

"Fine" I reply to him with annoyance.

"Ms. Melinda I've found my duel partner" He shouts to Ms. Melinda

"Alright prepare your stances and we will get ready"

Since this spoiled brat was the first one to find a duel partner, we were the first one to battle.

Now I suddenly see that every student had their eye on us.

"This is uncomfortable," I thought to myself.

I look at him he seems he wants to beat me as fast as possible to impress Ms. Melinda.

He prepares his stance with his spear in his hands.

I prepare my stance.

"FIGHT" Ms. Melinda suddenly shouts.

He rushes at me preparing to strike my neck.

I dodge to the side, I had the experience of being an Agent in my past life to know the weakness of almost every weapon since some monsters in my world can wield weapons.

The spear may have great reach but if you can get close, the wielder will not be able to use it effectively.

As I dodge to the side, I immediately get up and close to him, he tried to use his spear but since I was too close it couldn't do anything to me. I punch him in the stomach, he falls to the ground, and then I point my sword at his neck.

"Kayn is the victor!"

I bow to Ms. Melinda and look at Kyle, clear rage was visible in his eyes.

I then look around for Lawrence and see his clapping in the distance, I approach him.

"Good Job," He says to me.

"Thanks,"

Ms. Melinda then continues to make the students duel with each other until I hear a bell ring.

"Well, that is enough for today, you can now go back to your rooms after putting back your weapons where they belong, we will continue again tomorrow in the classroom at 8 am, do not be late."

The students then start to leave the training chamber, some of them go directly to First-Year dorms but some of them go to the cafeteria, I make my way to the cafeteria as I can feel my stomach rumble from hunger.

Food in the Academy is free so all you had to do was order.

I order my food and eat quietly at one of the tables in the cafeteria.

After a while, I finished eating my meal so I got up and proceeded to make my way into the First-Year dorms.

I was making my way to my room until I heard punches being thrown and a familiar voice groaning in pain in another room.

I go to the room and peek through the door,

I see 5 people ganging up on someone and that someone was none other than Lawrence.

I kick the door wide open, and the 5 students then look at me, I recognized who was one of them.

It was Kyle Glen,

"Looks like I don't have to look for you, boys beat him up too," Kyle said while grinning at me

The 4 students then start to approach me, one of them starts to hurl a fist at me, I duck to dodge it then punch him in the gut, I then kick one in the face, then use my knee to knock out the one that I punched in the gut. the other 2 students then froze in place as they didn't expect me to fight back, I used this opportunity to shoulder push one, his head hits the wall and passes out, then I grabbed the other student's face and smashed it into the wall. The only one remaining was Kyle.

Visible fear was seen in Kyle's face,

"I-I'm a noble, you'll get severely punished for beating a noble" He threatened me.

"Do I look like I give a fuck?"

"You won't get awa-"

I didn't let him finish as I punch his face.

He was knocked out instantly.

I look at Lawrence who looked at me with astonishment.

He was still on the ground there were bruises visible on him.

I offer him my hand to help him get up.

He takes it and we leave the room.

"Why?" He suddenly asks me

"Why, what?"

"I- I-m just a commoner why did you have to do that?"

"I have the blood of Lynine within me and that blood swore to protect the weak and humble the strong" I reply to him but honestly I just wanted to beat spoiled brats because they annoyed me.

"Interesting.." Lawrence said under his breath.

"What's that?"

"Nothing, nothing."

We continue to walk toward our room and once we entered I immediately lie down on the bottom bed and not a moment after, I fell asleep.
