24 A Trip Back Home (3)

Home, a place to rest, a safe haven and comfort zone, a place to live with your pets and loved ones, a place where we can truly be ourselves away from the daily trials and worries of life, and now we are two days and a half away from reaching it.

I look out the window and gaze upon the trees from far away.

The sounds of hoofs and the heat of the blazing sun.

It's a peaceful afternoon.

I rest the back of my head on the seat and look up at the ceiling of the carriage.

"Do I deserve this peace?" I thought to myself a hundred times already, ever since I arrived in this world.

As much as I cherish this peace, my conscience is biting a part of my soul.

I think about the original Kayn, from his memories that merged with me, he was just a poor child unable to let go of his dead mother.

Although it wasn't my fault I've transmigrated into his body I still feel guilty.

He had a loving family, his father and brothers loved him, even though he berated them and often starts a fight with them they understood that he was acting that way because he could not let go of the sorrow he felt from losing his mother.

Even though I've desired nothing more than a loving family in my entire life, I never wanted to gain one in this way.

I let out an exhausted sigh.

"You seem to be deeply thinking about something, Sir Kayn?"

I look towards Sir Gerald.

"Nothing you should be worrying about, Sir Gerald"

"Sir Kayn, there is one trait that traveling merchants such as I, need to possess to be successful in our line of business, and that trait is being perceptive since we need good eyes to know what people are worth investing in, and I do not need these good eyes to see that something greatly troubles you"

Sir Gerald's firm gaze as he said that made me turn my head to the window.

"Do you think Sir Gerald, just because a person unintentionally does something bad to someone, makes him evil?"

"Well, of course not, Sir Kayn, because it was unintentional, whoever that person is he didn't mean to hurt someone."

"Yes, that seems right Sir Gerald, but what if-"

"What if?, Sir Kayn."

I turn my head away from to window to stare directly at the firm eyes of Sir Gerald.

"But what if that person is secretly happy that it happened?"

"That's..."

I let out another exhausted sigh and rest the back of my head again on the seat.

A part of me is regretful and guilty of stealing the life and body of the past Kayn.

But a small part of me is happy, happy that I got a second chance, happy that I now possess aura, happy that I got the wealth I lacked in my past life, but most importantly happy that I have a loving family now.

"Why does a small part of me feels this way?" I thought to myself as I feel my heart get heavier.

"Well then, Sir Gerald I will be aura meditating now," I say to him while I close my eyes.

"Yes, Sir Kayn"

A day has now passed by and we have arrived in the Town of Dryrid.

"Well now, Sir Kayn, It seems that we have arrived at my destination."

"Yes, it appears so,"

"Knights!, help Sir Gerald unpack" I order the knights through the window.

They nod and open the door.

After a while, the 4 boxes inside the carriage are now outside.

Sir Gerald then got out of the carriage.

"I would like to express my gratitude once again to you Sir Kayn," He said to me outside the carriage while bowing.

"And once again Sir Gerald, don't mention it,"

He raises his head and looks at me again with his firm gaze.

"Knights, let us resume our journey back to Lynine" I order the escort knights.

I look at Sir Gerald again and give him a nod

He nods back and the carriage starts moving again.

I prepare myself to aura meditate.

A day and a half then passes by and we now arrived at a familiar-looking gate.

"Young Master has now arrived, open the gates!" A knight screams to the other knights that were guarding the gate.

The huge gate then starts to open.

The carriage then makes its way through the Land of Lynine.

The Land of Lynine, my father's territory, governs the southern front of the kingdom, what lies beyond the great wall that my father reinforced and strengthened over the years is the Valley of Winter.

Every winter the monsters that lie beyond the valley try to migrate toward our land for food and shelter from the harsh cold.

That is the reason why Kayn's father trains his knights and always keeps the great wall in good shape.

Because if the wall crumbles so will our Land.

That also explains why our Land does not have residents as many of the other towns, and fiefs.

Most people fear the valley and would rather settle in a place far away from it.

That is why Kayn's father cherishes the people that decide to live in his land for he admires their bravery and swore that he would protect them.

The carriage then stops and I look out the window and see that we have arrived at the gate of our mansion.

"Home, sweet, home," I thought to myself.
