3 Chapter 3, Sorting Hat

As Professor McGonagall finished her speech, a scared looking boy, jumped forwards. "Trevor!" cried the boy.

As he catches a toad that was sitting near the Professor, he backs away from the stares of McGonagall with some of the students laughing.

"Sorry…" Said the embarrassed boy.

"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily." Said McGonagall ignoring the boy as she leaves to the Great Hall, just before leaving she glanced and met the terrifying eyes of Niles, as he let out a small smirk and his intense aura.

"Victim number four" muttered Niles staring at McGonagall.

"That… boy, he reminds me of the Headmaster" Thought the Professor as she left.

A few minutes after the leave of the Professor, a young evil looking boy, with short blonde hair, spoke up. "It's true then, what they're saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts."

After some whispers of "HarRy PoTer!?" the boy continued with his shitty monologue. "This is Crabbe and Goyle, and I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy."

Ron standing next the Harry, snickered at his name.

"Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasley." Exclaimed Draco with disgust.

"Ah, finally victim number 5 is here, it's such a shame that the creature in the forest will kill him this year." Thought Niles.

"Well, we'll soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, POTTER. Don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort POTTER. I can help you there POTTER." Said Draco turning his attention to Harry.

"I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks." Said Harry not liking Draco's arrogance.

Draco glared at Harry and Ron, before leaving with his pets.

---

Moments later McGonagall returns.

----

"We're ready for you now. Follow me." Said the Professor.

She leads the first-years through two large doors and into the Great Hall, where there were four long tables with thousands of students, as well as floating candles. The roof of the castle appeared to be a clear sky.

As the first years walked to the front, everyone was fixed onto one student alone. That student being Niles, the other years looked at him in shock. From their perspective, a student with a magical core of a 3rd year was walking down hands in his pocket, with a laid-back attitude, leaking out a massive amount of magical energy and radiated an intense aura of a predator.

Even the teachers were intrigued by the student. Dumbledore gave off an intense gaze at Niles, already wondering if he had another Tom Riddle on his hands. Which he did.

"It's not real, the ceiling. It's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History." Said Hermione at the awe-struck Harry.

As the first years were walking down, Niles looked over the teachers with a smirk. He could see a young Alan Rickman, alongside an old Dumbledore and a half-goblin presumed to be Flitwick. Professor Pomfrey, and Hagrid were also there. Niles gazed at the twinkles of Dumbledore's eyes.

"What an interesting boy…" muttered Dumbledore, loud enough for the Professors to hear. Suddenly a Hat, sitting onto a stool started singing.

"Oh you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find

A smarter hat than me.

You can keep your bowlers black,

Your top hats sleek and tall,

For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat

And I can cap them all.

There's nothing hidden in your head

The Sorting Hat can't see,

So try me on and I will tell you

Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,

Where dwell the brave at heart,

Their daring, nerve, and chivalry

Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,

Where they are just and loyal,

Those patient Hufflepuffs are true

And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,

if you've a ready mind,

Where those of wit and learning,

Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin

You'll make your real friends,

Those cunning folks use any means

To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (though I have none)

For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

The Sorting Hat stood onto a stool, with a face like cover.

"Will you wait along here, please? Now, before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words." Said McGonagall to the students.

The Headmaster rose from the main table and started speaking "I have a few starts of term notices I wish to announce. The first years please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker, Mr. Filch, has asked me to remind you that the 3rd floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you."

As Dumbledore sat back down, Niles could feel the terrifying gaze of the Headmaster onto him. He felt as if it was a warning of sorts. "Well, that's a Powerful Wizard for you." Niles whispered to himself.

McGonagall spoke up again. "When I call your name, you will come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses. Hermione Granger."

Hermione, whispering to herself walking up, and sitting down. After she sat down, McGonagall placed the Hat on her.

"Ah, right then...hmm...right. Okay...GRYFFINDOR!!" Shouted the hat.

Applause erupted from Gryffindor house table. Even McGonagall wore a smile on her face. The professor then continued with the list of names.

"Niles Avery." Said McGonagall.

As Niles walked up to the stool, he could feel the gaze of students and Professor alike whispering, even Dumbledore raised an eyebrow.

The moment McGonagall placed the Hat, it shrieked.

"Boy, you are scary, how can you have so many terrifying ideas as a kid?" asked the hat sitting ontop of Niles 's head.

"I don't know." Said Niles .

"You could be suited to any of the Houses but... I see, you could do well in Slytherin, you are exactly like a previous student." Stated the Hat.

"Slytherin would be good… but with Malfoy there and Dumbledore's plans I won't be able to have fun, Ravenclaw would be okay but I don't want to study and well Hufflepuff can go and f*ck themselves. So I guess my choice is Gryffindor" Said Niles .

"Are you sure ?" questioned the Hat.

"Pretty sure, and at least I can watch over the three suicidals from a distance." Replied Niles.

"Okay...?" said the Hat.

"GRYFFINDOR" announced the hat.

Applause of the Gryffindor students were heard, and a big smile appeared on McGonagall's face. It wasn't everyday someone as special as Niles came to Hogwarts. Even the professors looked intrigued at Niles. Dumbledore let out a sigh of relief, seeing Niles walking over to the Gryffindor table.

"Who's he ?!" Shouted a pair of twins. As Niles walked over to the table, he changed his robes to the Gryffindor ones with a spell and introduced himself to the rest of the table. He hid a smirk, knowing Dumbledore won't be paying attention to him any time soon.

-------

End of the Sorting Ceremony.

Niles was sitting next to Hermione Granger, while facing Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley when McGonagall spoke up. "Your attention, please."

"Let the feast… begin." Said Dumbledore rising from his chair, gazing over Niles.

After those words, food magically appeared on all of the tables, the hall was filled with awe and chatter.

"Wow" exclaimed Harry.

"Should I tell Hermione about the elves?" Niles thought to himself while glancing at the food.

After digging into the food, Niles could faintly hear a conversation.

"I'm half and half. Me dad's a Muggle. Mam's a witch. Bit of a nasty shock for him when he found out." Said a student.

"I can only wait for the battle of Hogwarts to go on a killing spree and during the Triwizard Tournament. Otherwise, if I act too soon, Dumbledore won't give me his grandfatherly smile anymore." Niles once again thought to himself.

As he thought of this, Niles felt a chill down his spine, Dumbledore's gaze was fixated on him. Thankfully, Dumbledore won't peek into his mind, but he somehow the Headmaster knew Niles was up to no good.

"This wasn't supposed to happen... I'll need to make sure he doesn't get any ideas." Thought Dumbledore whilst giving his grandfatherly smile to the students.

After some time, Harry leaned over to a prefect and asked. "Say, Percy, who's that teacher talking to Professor Quirrell?"

"Oh, that's Professor Snape, head of Slytherin house." Said the prefect.

"What's he teach?" asked Harry.

"Potions. But everyone knows it's the Dark Arts he fancies. He's been after Quirrell's job for years." Replied Percy.

"I should ask the twins for the map, and it's a bit sad Alan Rickman won't be happy with me during potions." Niles thought.

For most of the dinner Niles was deep in thoughts and rarely spoke, the students didn't bother as he was the equivalent of Malfoy.

------------------

End of the feast.

"Gryffindors, follow me, please. Keep up. Thank you." Said Percy, the shitty version of Jackson.

"This is the most direct path to the dormitories. Oh, and keep an eye on the staircases...they like to change." Continued the prefect.

"For f*ck sake" Niles thought as if he wasn't going insane at this point, he didn't want to stay any longer if he was just going to live in a movie with a group of suicidal teens.

The first year Gryffindors walked up the stairs and stopped in front of the Tower. Percy then said the Password to "the fat lady" which was "Caput Draconis".

"Oh, I need to get the passwords of the other houses soon." Niles muttered under his breath; an evil smirk appeared on his face.

Continuing the movie plot to his dorm, Niles was already half-asleep and clearly did not want to continue the actual plot since well, he would be boring. Reaching the dorms Niles was wondering if it was karma from god. In the dorm room, Niles , Ron, Harry, Seamus alongside Neville were together.

"For F*ck sake, I should've gone to Ravenclaw…" muttered Niles. As he fell asleep immediately onto his beg, with a cat hissing at him.

Later that night, Niles was woken up by Harry who was sitting by a window in his pj's and was petting Hedwig, the bloody f*cking bird was chirping at 2am. Harry had the classic movie look, of knowing he will be finally loved, here at Hogwarts.

"Dude, I don't want to interrupt your drama, but go to bed." Whispered Niles with anger to Harry.

"Ah… Sorry." Replied Harry going back to his bed.
