1 1) The beginning of the end

Footsteps echoed through the poorly lighted tunnel. It was nearly 1 am and the night's cold mist was setting. A shadow was projected on the graffiti-filled walls.

*drip* *drip* *drip*

Drops of a foul-smelling liquid dripped from the ceiling into puddles that glowed thanks to the poor lighting.

A tall slender man wearing nothing but black clothing walked through the tunnel at a rapid pace. Every now and then he would look behind his shoulder to see if they were still chasing him. He knew how risky it was to go out at night alone but it was of dire need. They could only make it for a year at most.

He had been walking for at least five hours but with his improved physique, he didn't feel tired. The reason for the sweat drops forming on his neck that was slowly running down his back was because of the fear of getting caught.

He stopped abruptly and as he looked back again his eyes turned a light shade of purple and his vision of the world changed. His vision turned completely black and then the drops falling from the ceiling glowed purple, the air particles flowing through the tunnel glowed neon green, it was a beautiful way to perceive the world, by only being able to see the things that move. He would always be mesmerized by his ability but as he saw a glowing white outline at the other end of the tunnel he knew he was running out of time.

As his eyesight returned to normal he immediately dashed through the remaining of the tunnel to try and escape from his hunter.

As he came out of the tunnel he was met with a crossroad, on the right was a paved path that had plants growing out of the cracks that showed how run-down it was, on the left, there was a dirt trail going into the woods. The logical choice would be to run away from the woods and through the safe path but his mind was being clouded with fear due to a mental attack he was unaware he was under the influence of.

His eyes glowed a tint of purple as his body split in two, from each side of his body a new he grew. One of them went to the right and the other to the left. They were not entirely clones as they had half of his original body so as long as one survived, his mission could be completed.

The "clones" dashed in separate directions, one advancing in a straight line through an almost unhindered path and the other making complicated turns, running in zigzag, through and under trees in an attempt to lose his hunter.

After a few minutes of running, the "clone" that went to the right slowed down to a half-paced walk as the pressure emanating from his hunter reduced, meaning he went after his brother.

As he realized he was now in less danger he took out a small communicator from his pocket. It was what they call an iPhone, there had been so many versions he didn't even know which one was it. All he knew is that he needed to break it in order to activate its hidden feature which would allow him to send one message through space and time. And so he did just that.

As he broke the phone in two, the outline of an apple floated in front of him.

*thud*

His knees hit the ground.

*thud*

His head hit the ground.

*thud*

The rest of his body hit the ground.

At the same time, a body in the woods was turning cold as a fearful expression was eternally left on a face.

A pool of blood formed where his head had been cleanly cut off from his shoulders.

As the light of his eyes diminished, so did humanity's last hope…

Or at least that's what the Shadows thought.
