80 Chapter 80

The ringing of steel clashing against steel screamed throughout the night. The thundering of horse hoofs shook like an earthquake. The sweat and blood overpower the scents of the forest.

Half of Bushivo's body was hanging on to the lead carriage. The other half was holding a sword that had its blade in the eye socket of a knight in dark armor. The knight fell off his horse and his body which was now devoid of life got trampled on by another warrior in the same armor.

Bushivo and company had been fighting off the Kokarian cavalry for a few hours now. Light had now appeared in the sky. His group had been reduced to 4 carriages now and had 7 knights on horseback left. The knight from the Iron Rose kingdom had also lost two of their members. They rode with his group now pushing back the filth that was the Kokarian knights.

Bushivo was worried. This group of knights had ridden ahead of the main war party and they were top tier. They were far stronger than the first group that attacked them earlier the day before. They were led by a knight whose battle arts seemed to be on the same level as Bushivo. This gave Bushivo pause as he knew how tough it was to get to his level. He did not know this knight but he did know that thanks to him he was unable to sense this group before that had arrived and took them all by surprise.

No matter what Bushivo would keep fighting. They were close to Lerwick and as long as they made it there would be a chance to defeat these knights.

Kane took a breather. All this fighting had been tiring and he was hungry. Also pissed. After all, he lost two crusaders. This force was stronger than his and he worried that more losses were to come. Luckily he had sent Kellog and the others from the horde to retreat into the forest and would follow at a distance. If things got really bad he would retreat to them. Hopefully, it would not be necessary though.

Kane rode up to the lead carriage while charging a knight from Kokar. His lance tore through the knight's body killing him instantly.

"Sir Kane that weapon of yours is not only mysterious in make but powerful. I am glad we have you to help us" said Bushivo. He was able to take a break as Kane had killed the last knight that had caught up to the lead carriage. The rest of the knights were very close but still trailing behind enough for the White Sparrow knights and Crimson Crusaders to all rest their bodies and ready their souls.

"It was a treasure that I found on my travels Sir Bushivo. I do love it so. Also, it is thanks to you and your men that we have made it this far. How close are we?"

"What luck you have to find such a treasure. We are almost there and should get there in 20 minutes. Hopefully, Lerwick sends help as I fear that their cavalry will catch up with us."

"Indeed that warrior leading them also seems far strong than any of the Kokarian knights that I have interacted with."

"I agree Sir Kane. I do not know who he is but I do know that the kingdom of Kokar has 12 Knights of the same strength as me and the other White Sparrow Generals. I am positive this knight is one of them. If he is then I must get to Lerwick at all costs. Sir Kane, I have been guarding my kingdom's princess and I cannot let her be captured. I am sorry that I lead you into this mess."

Kane was shocked. He knew someone was in the main carriage and assumed they were important but had no idea how important.

"Well, General I guess we must make time if we are going to keep her safe and get ourselves to safety."

Bushivo looked curiously at Kane. He sensed this man was strong and knew he was mysterious. He did not know what he would be planning though.

"General get your group to safety. I will hold off Kokar. I only have a small group with me but I should be able to delay them."

The General knew how dangerous the war party was. He also knew that Kanes group was much smaller than his. Also, he had only recently met this group and they did not have much of a connection yet. That's why he never expected to hear words like that come from Sir Kane's mouth.

"Sir Kane you can't! I have honed my skills for years and even I am not sure I could take this group. Even with my men. We would not last an hour! You have no obligation to help us and I cannot ask you to risk your life for us. We are almost there and we can make it as long as we keep them away from the carriages."

"General they are catching up and I am bored just running. You have someone to protect and a town to offer you asylum. Let my men and I do what we do best. Fight with the odds against us."

"Sir Kane let me hold them at bay. You get my people to safety and I promise you will be treated well and rewarded by my liege."

"Too late! Crusaders show them no mercy!" Kane gave a war cry before jumping off his steed and onto an incoming Kokarian knight's head. Then he threw the knight off his horse and struck his lance threw the opening between the knight's helmet and chest plate.

Bushivo watched in bewilderment. All of Kane's men did not fear the incoming cavalry. They followed him without question. He watched as they disappeared into the distance while he kept riding. Hopefully, he could get to Lerwick. Then he would be able to bring reinforcements to defeat the Kokarian war party and the princess would be safe behind a friendly wall.
