2 Second Chance

"Hahaha!"

Laughter. Who was laughing?

Aren't I dead?

Tang Yan opened his eyes and looked around. He was standing in a playground, surrounded by thirty or forty students. The laughter was coming from them.

"Tang Yan, off target. 0 points!" came a voice from behind him.

Just as he was about to turn around, there was a sudden sharp pain in his head. Clutching his head in his hand, he kneeled over.

Once he recovered, he stood up to find himself in a completely blank void, surrounded by white.

"Is this heaven?" He couldn't help but groan as he looked around.

"This isn't heaven, Master. This is the heterogeneous space of the system," said a sweet and tender voice into his ear.

Tang Yan turned sharply, only to find no one. His emotions became tense. "What the hell? Who's there?"

"Hello, Master, I am the system administrator," came the voice.

Looking around again, Tang Yan saw a little loli floating down towards him.

She was really floating, her feet hovered above the ground.

Tang Yan was shocked and took a step back. His tone shook slightly as he said, "Are you a human or a ghost? Where are we?"

The little loli calmly smiled and said, "Master, I am neither human nor ghost. I am Celia, a virtual character built by the system. I am also its administrator. We are currently in the system's hetero-dimensional space. To be straightforward, this is a virtual space that exists in your mind."

"In my mind? Heterogeneous space? System? What is going on?" After confirming that the little girl in front of him was harmless, Tang Yan's mood somewhat stabilized, but he still couldn't comprehend what was happening to him.

"The system has chosen you to be its new host. After you died, it discovered your soul and retrieved it back to Earth's soul realm. The system has automatically selected a time period for you to return to," Celia explained.

"Soul...return?" Tang Yan couldn't believe what he was hearing. Was this a dream?

He reached out and pinched his face. The sharp tingling sensation forced him to understand that everything that was happening in front of him was real.

"Yes, you have regressed back to the year 2010. To be more precise, April 26, 2010," Celia explained.

26th of April, 2010!

Tang Yan suddenly realized what Celia was saying was true.

Before coming to this so-called "virtual space", he had heard ridiculing, and he had even noticed that he had a recurve bow beside him.

The memories of his past were awakened.

2010, that should have been the year of his high school graduation. As for the April 26th, well, that day was his birthday.

As a high school student, his academic performance wasn't great, to say the least.

As such, getting into college became a problem. With the academic route gone, he had decided to try the sports route.

Their school offered basketball, running, long jump and a few others. At that time, he was only five foot five, which made none of those sports viable. Finally, he found archery.

It was a pity that he was so naive back then that he didn't realise the amount of training required for archery. While others spent years mastering the basics, he only got three months to practice.

During the college trials, they had to shoot 24 arrows at a distance of 30 meters. Of those 24 arrows, he had missed 20, all of which flew straight past the target, not even grazing it. He became the biggest laughing stock of the school.

That was the darkest birthday of his life.

Thinking back carefully now, before he came into this space, it looked like he had just shot his fifth off-target arrow.

Realizing his situation, he suddenly became excited. Since he was back in time, maybe he could salvage the situation and change his future.

"Celia, is it?" Tang Yan looked down at the little lolita in front of him.

"Yes, Master." Celia nodded, her two ponytails swaying.

"What is the use of this ... system?" he asked tentatively.

"This system can summon historical characters and mold Master into the king of sports."

"Summon historical figures?" said Tang Yan, a trace of doubt flashing in his eyes.

"Yes," said Celia before waving her hand.

Suddenly, an electronic interface appeared in front of Tang Yan's eyes.

The interface was somewhat similar to those of RPG games.

He saw a list of names, most of which were grayed out. Only the names Xiang Yu, Li Guang, Dian Wei, and Lu Zhishen were bright.

"What does this mean?" asked Tang Yan.

"These are the historical figures that can be summoned by the system. The names which are grayed out need to be unlocked, which can be done once you meet certain conditions."

"The ones that light up can be unlocked then," said Tang Yan. He swept his eyes over the four names and finally fixed his eyes on Li Guang's.

Tapping on the name, an avatar appeared, wearing a red-winged helmet and an accompanying red suit of armour with a red cape draping over the back.

This was the Han general, Li Guang.

Li Guang was a Chinese general of the Western Han dynasty. Nicknamed "Flying General" by the Xiongnu, he fought primarily in campaigns against the nomadic Xiongnu tribes to the north of China. He was known to the Xiongnu as a tough opponent when it came to defense, and his presence was sometimes discouraging enough for the Xiongnu to abort a siege. There were many legends about him, the most famous being Li Guang's ability to shoot an arrow into stone.

In ancient times, soldiers used straight pull bows. The transformation of force was one to one, so if someone wanted to shoot an arrow into stone, you could imagine how much strength they'd need.

Of course, this wasn't the focus of Tang Yan's attention. The line of bright words under Li Guang's head was:

'The ability to shoot with great precision and strength.'

The myth of shooting a willow leaf at one hundred paces went through his mind.

Li Guang's shooting skills were said to be unparalleled in this world; there was record of him shooting two enemies with a single arrow.

If this system really could change his life, Li Guang's abilities would be the best to start off with.

"Celia, do I directly get Li Guang's abilities?" asked Tang Yan.

"With your current honor points, you can only unlock 50% of his abilities," Celia explained.

"50%? Honor points?"

"Honour points are necessary for using the system. They can be obtained through competitions. The higher the level of the competition, the more honor points you can earn, and the more of a character's abilities you can unlock."

"Understood," said Tang Yan before directly choosing Li Guang's character with a look of determination on his face.

Although he hadn't fully recovered from this series of events, he knew that since he was given a second chance, he had to turn his life around.

A rush of energy swept through his body.

Relishing in such a great feeling, he closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, he found himself back in reality.
