It was an exclusive interview on Optus Sports, an Australian channel. It was being broadcasted exclusively back home to Australia.

The interview immediately sparked debate and spread online as everyone hopped on and camps quickly formed.

Some called the Australian team petty and jealous whilst others defended them and demanded everyone to get drug tested.

After the video spread online, it quickly hit Weibo and began making the rounds in China.

It immediately aroused fierce protests from Chinese fans, they filled Weibo, shouting jealousy and discrimination.

Major figures even came out and posted some strong words for the Australian athletes. The dissatisfaction was clear.

But both Sports Bureaus were still to make an official statement, so Australia's and China's official stance as a whole was unclear.

So it was just self-righteous outrage from fans on both sides.
