At the national championships, Tang Yan became the first Asian swimmer to swim 100 metres at sub 48 seconds and Ning Zetao inspired broke his limit and swam 48 seconds 23, this qualified them both for the World Championships.  

In addition to Tang Yan and Ning Zetao's participation, the Australian star James Magnussen, also attracted attention.

In the group stages in the morning, Tang Yan and Ning Zetao both performed well and successfully reached the semi-finals in the afternoon. However, in the semi-finals, Ning Zetao faced the same situation as Shi Yang, facing off against Magnussen in the adjacent lane, he performed abnormally, seemingly put off and unfortunately missed out on the finals in the evening.

Tang Yan swam 48 seconds 13 in the semi-finals and ranked fifth making it into the evening finals.
