This mission is for them to find something out inside wall Maria. Erwin gave them one day. This was a secret mission.

Chapter 1

This is another mission from Erwin. A special mission for the group after they get eren back from the Reiner and Bertholdt.

Starts directly after season 2.

3rd pov

"Go ride back to HQ and report to Erwin now! I'll hold them off for as long as possible! Ackerman you're in charge. Now Go!" Captain Levi yelled over the sound of titans heading there way. Eren glanced worriedly between Levi and the horde of titans he had attracted his way.

"Captain please don't do this! Let us help you!" Eren pleaded staring at Levi. Levi glanced his way only to regret it. He didn't like the look of desperation, sadness and worry on the teal eyed boys face. For some reason, unbeknownst to him, made his heart cry with pain. It hurt, he almost wanted to grab his chest to ease the pain but refrained. He didn't want to give away any unnecessary emotions. He didn't want to let the boy know how bad he was affecting him. It would only make the poor boy worry even more.

"Eren." He said glancing back at the titans that were closing in. The teal eyed boy followed his gaze. "My job is the ensure your safety and at this point I'm the best chance at giving you guys time to escape back to the walls. You don't have much further to go." Levi explained softly as he slowed down his horse, ready to turn back. Eren along with the other members of the special ops squad slowed their horses to match their captains. "Eren look at me." Levi started softly gazing down at the horse reins he had in his hands. "I need you alive. Everyone does. As long as you're alive then hope lives on."

"Please captain. Please let us help you. We're a team aren't we? We can do this." Eren pleaded. He was shaking his head vigorously trying to change there captains mind. He saw Levi look up, he was about to say something more when a flash of pain crossed the captains face. It was a split second before it was masked by a hard frown but it was there, and he had seen it.

"Eren. Do you see how many titans are heading our way?! Too many. No one will make it out alive if I don't stop as many as I can. Now get going! Ackerman take his reins! " Levi yelled before turning tail and taking off. He unsheathed his blades standing atop his horse ready to kill. When he got close enough to catch the horde of titans attention he attached his ODM to the shoulder of one titan and swung himself up to slaughter them. He swung himself higher above the titans heads and released the gear bringing the gas to a stop before using gravity as a pull downwards on top of the titans nape. He held his blades and spun in a sharp circle around himself to make himself a bit faster. Killing one titan. He used his ODM gear to swiftly kill two more nearest him within a span of a few seconds. However he still had close to 15 to go. He started to kill a few more before he landed on top a of head of a 15 meter one and took a quick look around. He saw his squad far in the distance and thankfully no titans followed.

"Hey Mikasa! We need to go back! The captain needs our help! That's too many titans! He'll die if we don't help him!" Eren yelled tears threatening to leak out. He kept glancing back and forth between his sisters face, the way he was headed and his beloved captain.

"No. He gave us specific orders. We can't go back. He said your safety comes first and he's right." Mikasa said looking straight forward refusing to look at Eren. She couldn't. She knew if she did she'd regret it. His expressions could make anyone buckle. She cared for Eren. She couldn't bare to see him sad or hurt but she didn't care if she hurt him or angered him, as long as he was safe.

"No Mikasa please! He'll die back there! He cant take that many by himself." Eren pleaded as he looked back to see Levi on the ground with several coming at him. He had already taken down ten or more so he had only a few left but he was out of gas and out of blades. Eren pleaded with her one more time when he heard Armin scream out Levi's name. Eren stopped mid sentence and turned back to see Levi getting thrown into a titans mouth. It was the same situation his mom had been before she died at the hands of a titan.

"Captain!" Several soldiers screamed. Eren, surprisingly, wasn't among those who screamed for there captain. Eren was shocked and fearful that he wouldn't see his captain again. The scene before him took his breath away as tears started streaming down his face. He forcefully yanked the reins from Mikasa and slowed his horse to a stop. Once stopped he was about to take off to be at his beloved captains side, even if it was just part of him.

"Eren no! Captain Levi said we need to head back towards the walls and report to HQ." Mikasa said in a strict tone. It was a tone that meant no. What Eren couldn't believe was that she looked like she could care less for her captains life.

"Mikasa what's wrong with you?! That's Levi back there! He needs our help!" Eren yelled at her in an angry yet shocked tone. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. She had clearly seen him get grabbed and thrown into a mouth of a 15 meter titan.

"I agree with Eren. We need to go back." Jean strolled up next to Eren ready to take off towards the horde.

"We need our captain Mikasa. It just isnt the same without him." Connie said voice cracking a little. He had turned his horse around as well. The same went with Sasha, Armin, and Krista.

Mikasa had took a glance between the rest of the squad and Levi, or well where he was before he ended up in the mouth of a titan. She looked back to Eren and sighed before turning her horse around as well. The minute she did Eren took off as fast as he could with the others in tow. She followed close behind Eren in case he needed saving.

They started closing in when they saw the titan that had thrown there captain in his mouth toss his head back as if attempting to swallow him whole. Eren yelled out their captains name before stopping in shock a few minutes later. Everyone had stopped there horses in complete shock as they saw Levi spinning out of the titan from the nape killing the titan in the process. He landed hard slamming his back on the ground. He closed his eyes in pain as the gear ricocheted into his back.

Slowly standing back up unknown to the squad racing his way. "Tch. Out of blades, out of gas and out of a horse." Levi muttered cursing himself as he looked down to check his tanks. "Perfect and out in the middle of titan territory. Well that's a perfect combination. I definitely wont be able to ride back to safety now."

"Captain!" Eren yelled as they closed in. Eren of course was the furthest ahead, as if leading the rest. Levi's heart skipped a beat before his face contorted with anger. His frown was made clear to the rest. He was furious that they risked Eren's safety just to come back to save him.

Levi looked up to see a hand headed his way. He took one glance at his blade to see the only blades he had left broken down to the handles. Either way his squad members were still too far away to help, so he'd have to make do. He braced himself getting ready to jump on the titan.

"Captain! Run towards us!" Levi heard Eren's scream, only to fall on deaf ears. For he was not one to back down. He had 4 titans left and Eren was nearby. He had to do his job and protect him at all costs. Even if it costed him his life.

So when the titans hand was brought down he dodged and jumped to climb. He squeezed one eye closed in pain. His stomach on his right side had been grazed as he was thrown into the titans mouth. So he had a pretty decent size wound and the more he moved the more it hurt. The more it hurt meant the more blood he was losing. He knew it too, but he pressed onwards to kill the titan. Once he finally reached the nape on the 10 meter titan he sliced the nape 3 to 4 times before it finally went down. He felt himself falling once again. He knew he wouldn't last another fall from that height, not with his wound. So he looked around and started running down the titans back as it fell forwards. It took a few minutes before he had to tuck and roll on the ground to stop the momentum. Once again the ricochet from equipment hitting the ground hit him and hurt again.

He was thankful he had a cloak on. He didn't want to worry the teal eyed boy further. It would only make the boy worry worse and blame himself for not trusting himself and staying to help anyway. Levi didn't want that. Once that titan went down he looked up towards the other two 4 meters, and the 7 meter titans. He stood up once again frowning up at them forcing himself not to wince in pain but before he could move he saw Mikasa, Jean, and Connie fly up towards them to kill them.

They took them down in an instant. They were prepared. He surveyed the area for more oncoming titans, only relaxing when he saw none coming there way. He slowly knelt down and sighed catching his breath before he heard several pairs of footsteps running his way from all sides, or well charging is more like it. They were worried he could hear it in the way they were breathing heavily.

"Captain!" Eren yelled in a frantic voice once again, closer this time. He smiled to himself as he looked downwards towards the ground eyes closed. "Are you ok?" He could hear the panic and desperation in his voice, hoping that the captain didn't get wounded as he was thrown into his mouth.

A few minutes later he felt a gentle touch on his shoulder. His smile grew grim hoping no one saw. However to his relief no one mentioned it, which meant they didn't see. He had to take a few slow deep breaths in order to not alert anyone's attention to his wound.

"What the hell were you guys thinking?" He asked in a stern tone glancing up at his squad frowning. He looked at each one of them slowly as if to say 'not a single one of you listened'.

"But captain we need you. I just…" Eren started as tears streamed down his pain stricken face. "I couldn't leave you behind." He said softly looking down. Levi sighed heavily and closed his eyes to catch his breath. He didn't want to yell at them. He didn't want to lecture them. He knew they had the best intentions. However that was short lived when he heard Eren scream again. Levi snapped his eyes open to look at him curiously. "You're hurt!"

Levi sighed and glanced down to his wounded stomach and moved his jacket aside to take a look at it for the first time. He winced when he saw the whole right side of his shirt was soaked red with blood. The side of it torn to shreds from the bite.

"Huh? Oh yeah. I got grazed. It's only a flesh wound. I'll be fine but we have to get back to the walls now." Levi said in a serious tone. It didn't waiver. It couldn't or they would say he was lying. He had to make it strong. To emanate a strong tone and aura or else they would panic.

"How are you going to ride back captain?" Mikasa asked looking around for his horse. That's when Levi sighed heavily. He half turned around and used his blade to point in that direction. "Sasha, Krista go find it." She commanded. They only nodded before glancing between one another, taking off.

"You guys I don't think the captain should be riding." Armin said as he studied my wound up close. "Based on the size of the would he's losing a lot of blood. Captain how do you feel right now? And please don't lie to us just because you don't want to worry us." He said glancing to me.

"Well, I feel a little light headed but that's why I said we needed to hurry. Thankfully there's no more titans heading our way." Levi said trying to sound as normal as possible. However failing. His voice was quieter than normal.

"captain ride with me please. I can support you. While the others could protect us if any titans come our way." Eren suggested worried. It made Levi's heart jump a beat. Levi might not be able to hide his shaky voice but he was able to hide that much. He couldn't afford to let them know. It was taking all of his energy to hide it. That's why his voice was shaky.

"That would be best. The less movement you have the better. Besides you'll have less strain trying to control a horse. You can rest. It'll be better on your wound." Armin argued making a valid point. Hearing the others agree, everyone besides Mikasa who was obviously against it, made Levi sigh an run a hand through his hair.

"Fine." He reluctantly agreed. "Someone go fetch Sasha an krista." His voice was shakier then the last time he spoke which made his team glance worriedly towards one another. "Don't give me those looks. I'll be fine." Reading their minds.

"Here they come with your horse." Mikasa pointed to them in the distance. If the team didn't know any better they swore they heard hope in here voice. Hope meaning he could ride his own horse back, making them subtly frown towards eachother.

"Sasha you'll have to guide the Captain's horse back." Jean explained before Mikasa could speak again. He knew if she did she would've told their captain to ride. "Captain Levi is riding with Eren. He needs rest. The more rest he gets the better for his wound."

"Understood." She said nodding. "Lets go then. There's a horde of titans far off in the distance and if we stay here any longer they'll notice us." She said glancing behind her. The others nodded while Eren helped pull the captain onto his horse seated close behind him.

Levi immediately fell forwards leaning onto Eren's back, making him gasp catching the others attention. They all felt it. Mikasa's anger and jealousy. She didn't want him riding with Eren. She didn't want anyone riding with Eren.

Jean physically rolled his eyes making her see that they caught onto her. She looked down in embarrassment realizing this was life or death for the captain. So she had to push her jealousy aside, otherwise Eren would hate her. She knew it and she didn't want him to hate her.

"Let's head back." Jean commanded taking the lead. Levi chuckled a bit catching their attention again, voice rumbling through Eren.

"Be a good leader and don't get us killed." He said closing his eyes. Jean nodded and told him he understood before taking off.

It had been a few good long minutes before Levi slowly wrapped his arms around Eren's mid-drift. Eren gasped making everyone take a glance back at him. They frowned curious as to why their captain would hold onto Eren so gently. They didn't know if it was a bad thing so they nodded to eachother to make a quick stop.

"Captain whats wrong?" Armin asked riding up next to the captain. He put a gentle hand to his forehead only to feel no fever. The captain was doing fine which confused him. The look of confusion caught their attention as well.

"Captain?" Eren asked softly. His voice quiet but to Levi it was loud making him wince.

"Shh. Your voice is loud in my ear Eren. Don't speak." Levi said quietly. "Eren your warm. Let me stay like this for a bit." He said voice soft. There was exhaustion in it. It made Armin's eyes widen a bit. He then felt the captain's forehead again. He frowned again.

"What's wrong Armin?" Mikasa asked riding up to the other side of Eren to watch the both of them.

Armin shook his head frowning. His eyes never left Levi's frame. "He's cold." He said again.

"Is that bad?" Mikasa asked. Armin nodded slightly. Eren gasped seeing it.

"Yes. It means the captain needs medical treatment fast or he'll die." Armin explained. "It means he's losing a lot of blood." Hearing that made Eren worry even more.

"Please captain hang in there." Eren pleaded grabbing the captains interlocked hands that rested in his lap.

"Eren I told you. Your voice is loud. Please don't speak." He said exhausted. He moved his head to nuzzle it in Erens hood wanting warmth. Eren could feel him shaking.

"Please captain." Eren whispered worry clear in his tone and actions. Levi squeezed him from behind lightly trying to reassure him that he'd be fine.

"I'll be fine Eren. Just ride." Levi said softly as he adjusted to hide his face from the setting sun in Eren's nape. They were worried that there captain was getting too comfortable, trying to sleep. They knew if he fell asleep he wouldn't wake up again.

They took off pushing there horses as fast as they could while trying not to exhaust the horses. But to Eren it wasn't fast enough because he felt Levi shift again. Levi's warm breaths were hitting the back of Erens neck and he felt them getting softer.

"Let's hurry faster." He demanded to Jean. Jean frowned irritated.

"We're going as fast as we can. If we ride any faster the horses will collapse. Then the captain would really die." Jean snapped at Eren not looking back.

"He'll be fine. He's the captain after all." Sasha said trying to put Eren's worry at bay.

"Yeah. There's nothing he cant get through. OK?" Connie said following after sasha. Eren only lightly touched the captains hands again.

"Eren. You need to calm down." Armin said seriously looking at him, while still riding. "Your rising anxiety will not only affect the horses but it'll affect the captain too."

"How so?" Mikasa asked curious. He glanced between her and Eren.

"The captain will subconsciously react to Erens emotions bc hes holding him. And if that happens Levi's heart will pump more blood faster due his anxiety, and fear, and if that happens he'll lose more blood through his open wounds. His calm demeanor is what's keeping him alive right now. That and Eren's body heat." Armin explained making Eren even more anxious. Levi felt a tear drop on his hands and knew he had to intervene.

"Hey Eren. Do you trust me?" Levi asked softly catching everyone's attention silencing all conversation. Eren was shocked that his captain would even ask a question like that. So it took a minute for him to answer.

"Of course I do. Why would you ask that?" He answered loudly making Levi wince again squeezing him to remind him to soften his voice. "sorry." Levi only responded by nuzzling his nape again burrowing his face into his hair.

"Then please trust me when I tell you I'll be just fine." Levi said softly. Hearing how soft his voice was they were extremely worried.

"But captain you already lost a lot of blood." Eren argued softly with concern. His heart, was beating fast in worry and Levi since he was leaning on Eren he could feel it. He could feel Eren's concern.

Levi squeezed Eren weakly trying to comfort him. He felt tears falling onto his hands. He was trying everything he could to comfort him without having to speak and everyone saw it. He was trying to put the sad, worried teal eyed boy at ease but it seemed to be doing to opposite.

Levi nuzzled his forehead once again into erens hair as he rested his head on eren with his eyes closed. "Don't cry Eren." He said softly. It was the first time they had heard the captain speak in such a way. He was a strong man and never shown any emotion except leadership and strength. So when he was soft and caring it took them all by surprise.

They gave eachother worried looks as they heard his soft, caring, voice so weak. Eren did everything he could to try to muffle his sobs, but to no avail.

"Hey Eren. Can you a see a future for yourself?" Levi asked softly trying to get their minds off of his wounded stomach. He was well aware of his situation. He was aware he was fading in and out of consciousness due to the blood loss.

"What do you mean captain?" Eren asked confused. His tears had come to a halt. He was somewhat ok hearing some strength in the captains voice.

"I mean what can you see yourself doing after this is all over? Where would you like the future to take you?" It was taking everything in Levi to force strength into his voice. He was humanities strongest but even the strong are weak at times. And this was one of the few moments that caught Levi.

Everyone started to glance to Eren to see what he would answer. They wanted to know as well. They were also curious as to why there captain would ask such a question. But hearing strength in his voice gave them hope. So they weren't as worried. They just pushed onwards towards wall rose.

"Well I want to go see all the things Armin's told me about. I want to know what the outside world looks like before the titans took it from us." Eren answered calmer.

Armin hearing Eren finally calm down made him sigh in relief. Their captain did it. He was able to calm down a panicking eren. He thought 'maybe we could make it now'.

"Sounds like a bright future." Levi responded again forcing strength. Eren chuckled at their captains response but agreed with him. "Can I go with you?" He asked inconspicuously, except Eren, nuzzling his neck gently. When he did that it made Eren's heart leap and he almost blushed at the intimate gesture that was obviously made only for him to know about. Almost.

The others eyes widen at the question. They were shocked to hear such a question so they glanced back at there captain silently demanding an explanation.

"What?" Eren asked him to get his mind off of the intimate gesture his captain inconspicuously gave him.

"I cant see a future for myself. Yours sounds like a bright future. So I was asking if you could take me with you." Levi explained. He knew what was going through his teams minds.

"Of course captain. But you have to live through this to come." Eren answered quickly. His voice was strong this time, no longer weak and fragile with worry.

Their captain chuckled lightly making Eren smile a bit. When they saw Eren's smile it gave them all hope. They had hope that their captain would make it. They knew or thought he was getting through this. They all had one thought in their minds.

This is humanities strongest soldier. He'll be fine.

"Then I guess I'll have to live." Levi responded lightheartedly, confirming their thoughts. He waited a bit before speaking again. "Thank you." He answered voice softening again. Eren, hearing this, had him panicking again begging the captain to hang in there. "Thank you eren."

"For what?" Eren asked trying not to panic as Armin reminded him of the consequences. Levi grunted in pain adjusting himself into a more comfortable position behind Eren before deciding to answer the poor boy.

"Thank you for taking me with you." Levi answered weakly. It was obvious he was in pain and exhausted. They knew he was forcing himself to stay awake. They knew he had lost a lot of blood and should be dead from how much but he was titled humanities strongest soldier and had hope that he had the strength to stay alive. "Let me become your blade. As a thanks for bringing me with you to your future."

Eren's eyes widened in surprise and confusion. "Captain what exactly do you mean by that?" He asked slowly. Levi took a deep breath stopping from the pain. Once he had a handle on the pain again he slowly let out the breath he had been holding.

"I'll do whatever it takes to ensure your dream comes to pass. I'll cut down anyone in your way. Be it human, animal, or titan." Levi answered nonchalantly. There eyes widened in shock and a little bit of fear hearing the words cut down and human in the same sentence.

"Captain?" Jean asked voice shaking a little from the shock. However Levi ignored him and continued talking to Eren only.

"Just promise me something Eren." Levi said voice getting weaker but the seriousness of it was there. "Promise me you wont let anyone else I care about die. It's all I ask of you." He almost begged.

"I'm still inexperienced but I'll protect them to best of my abilities captain." Eren said strongly. He didn't want to let Levi down. He cared a lot about him. That was obvious with the way his heart leaped at the littlest movements Levi gave him inconspicuously.

"Thank you. I'll place my hope in you." Levi almost whispered. It was still loud enough for his team to hear however.

"Captain, who was it that you wanted me to protect?" Eren asked softly trying not to anger his captains wounds. Levi adjusted holding him a little tighter.

"My team." Levi answered softly into Eren's hair. There blood froze in shock. There captain cared for them. He didn't want to lost them.

"It's us?" Armin asked softly in shock eyes widened. Levi only responded with a nod.

"I don't want to lose anyone else. I hand pick my squads to ensure they'd be strong and capable. That way I don't have to worry about losing them. But no matter what I do I still end up losing them." Levi replied after a little while. "So please Eren. I ask this of you."

"But your humanities strongest soldier." Jean interrupted. Levi sighed hearing that phrase again.

"I'm only one man." He answered dejected. It was obvious he was remembering the past and all of the people he's lost. He made it obvious by hiding his face and hugging Eren tighter. It made the others' hearts break. They had wanted to ask how many he's lost but didn't want to rub salt in his wounds, so they kept it to themselves. "Eren promise me you'll protect them."

"I promise captain." Eren said voice breaking in pain because of the captains broken tone. However it made Levi sigh in relief. "We won't die captain." He said in a stronger tone.

Levi felt himself fading out but this time he knew he couldn't hold on any longer. "Then I can die in peace." Hearing those words had everyone, including Mikasa, freezing in fear. They all stopped there horses immediately and glanced back to there captain. Only to see their beloved captains hands slowly start to fall limp. It felt like everything was moving in slow motion as they watched his hands fall off of Eren and limp down at his side.

"Captain?.... Captain please hold on to me." eren started pleading to no avail. There captain was unconscious. "Captain please hang in there." Tears streaming down his face. The others were frozen in fear.

"We need to give him medical attention right here." Armin said bringing everyone back to reality. "He cant wait any longer. We'll have to make do here or we'll really lose him." That's when they all saw it. He was barely breathing. It gave them hope and adrenaline. "Jean help me and mikasa lower him off of Eren. Jean you grab his left leg. Mikasa grab his right. I'll stay behind him and get him from under his arms. Connie get off your horse and take off your gear so when Eren moves his horse forward we can lower him on your back. Sasha watch the horses. Krista come take off the captains gear so it'll be easier to treat him." Armin took charge.

They all started moving. Jean, mikasa and Armin grabbed the captain while sitting on their horses. And once Eren was out of the way they slowly lowered him onto Connie. That gave krista her chance to take off his gear while jean and mikasa got off the horses to help lower him gently onto the grass.

Once he was successfully laying flat on the ground Connie reattached his gear. In the meantime Armin took a look at the captains wound. "His wound is pretty deep Eren." Armin mentioned looking back up to the others that were surrounding him with worry coating his face.

"Isn't there anything you can do?!" Eren asked yelling frantically. Armin looked down back to there captain who lay dying before shaking his head in sorrow as tears leaked from his own eyes. Seeing this Eren collapsed to his knees in sadness and defeat. His shoulders hung with sorrow as tears streamed down his cheeks in sadness. His heart beat slowly as more pain started to build in his chest.

"I'm sorry Eren." Armin whispered closing his eyes tightly seeing as he couldn't watch his captain take his last breath. Inside he only felt failure. He couldn't save their captain and watching him die under his orders. He wasn't a doctor no but he knew enough first aid but even that couldn't save their dying captain.

It was when Eren collapsed on top of the captain did Armin realize that the captain had taken his last breath. Eren was sobbing softly on the captains chest in obvious pain, pleading softly for the captain to come back. Pleading that they needed him. Krista, Sasha and Connie were on the horses looking after the rest but even they turned their heads down and cried. Jean, and Mikasa who were standing on either side of Eren and Armin fell to their knees and sobbed, silently wishing for their beloved captain to return.

He gave his life for them to return to the walls safely and it was that fact alone that had even Mikasa sobbing silently. He risked his life for them to head back without him, while he took on 20 or so more titans. He took on a horde to allow them to live. That in itself proved to her that he cared more for them than he did himself. She had a feeling that he wasn't going to make it out, which was why he wanted them to return without them, to prevent them from going through the pain watching him die. He wanted to die alone.

"Eren." A soft rang through the wind. It was soft enough for the team to brush it off as a hallucination. "Eren." It sounded again a little louder this time. "Eren." After the third time hearing the soft voice calling Eren was in too much distress and pain to even hear anything but the rest of the team stopped crying and looked around.

Freezing in shock their eyes widened and breath hitched. They saw their beloved captain as a transparent figure standing staring down at a pained Eren. He was calling out to him looking down at him with, to them, what looked like sadness.

"Eren." He called again, only to fail at catching his attention. When he wouldn't get any responses after 4 calls he kneeled down on one knee and placed a soft hand on Eren's head.

"Captain… please come back…." Eren cried softly holding his beloved captain's dead lifeless body in his arms. He buried his face in his captains cravat, shoulders shaking with sobs.

"I'm right here." Levi whispered softly caressing the sad young soldiers head softly. His eyes held sadness at seeing his soldier, the one he grew to love, cry so harshly. Pain was crossing his face for all to see as he watched Eren, calling out to him ignoring the stunned widened eyes of the special ops squad.

"Captain… we need you…" Eren said sobbing nuzzling his face further into his captains neck. He was trying to feel warmth, any sign of life but only to find none. And each time it broke his heart, shattering it. It was only when he saw his captain die that he realized he loved him.

"Eren." Levi called again trying to catch the young boys attention. Jean had seemed to have finally snapped out of his daze from seeing his captains spirit lingering. Instead of leaving and passing on the special ops squad saw him stay. They were watching in a daze as he tried to calm the young soldier. "Get up. It's dangerous."

"Captain… Please I beg you…" Eren just wouldn't listen. It was as if he was the only one not able to hear or see their saddened captain and it was Jean who realized this. Jean closed his eyes tightly trying not to see the heartbreaking scene in front of him. It was as if Eren was mourning over his lover and his lover wasn't able to move on happily until they were satisfied.

That's when Jean had realized it. That's exactly what it was. Though he didn't know if the two even knew it. When he figured it out his head whipped back around to face the sad scene once more. He knew they would never get another chance to see this happening. Though Jean was the only one who was able to tell that the captain actually did fall in love with humanities hope, a boy who tended to royally piss him off purposely.

"Eren get up. Its dangerous." Their captain pleaded again sorrowfully. If he wasn't a spirit the special ops squad would've sworn that they saw tears streaming down their captains face, but sadly he couldn't cry. Their captain was sad because he was watching Eren plead for him to stay. They watched him stay there and attempt to comfort him but to no avail. He couldn't hear him. "Please get up." His voice sounded again. "There's titans in the distance. Get up."

Hearing this the other soldiers turned their tear stricken faces around to see a horde of titans about 120 meters away. Though luckily they hadnt seen them yet. That's when Jean decided to step in. He knew the captain wouldn't be able to move on until he saw Eren safe and letting go. He knew he was here because Eren couldn't let go and this is what saddened him.

"Captain…" Eren pleaded a little softer through muffled sobs. It looked as if he was attempting to stop the tears from falling but slowly since his heart was still in pain.

"Eren. Uhm… There's titans in the distance. We need to get a move on." Jean said slowly, with a soft sad voice as he stood to walk over to his horse. He closed his eyes in wait for the response to come. He knew it was going to be a snap at how they could leave their captain like this.

"NO! I'm not leaving him." Eren snapped hugging the captains body tighter to his chest. He was in so much pain because he knew the captain longer then they had. The others could see this and being saddened at the sight before them had them silenced. Well it wasn't as if they knew what to say to comfort him anyway.

"Eren. Please." Levi begged this time putting both knees on the ground. The captain pleaded with the boy but again to no avail, as he couldn't hear his beloved Levi.

"Levi… I… need you…" Eren said defeated barely above a whisper, but loud enough for the others to hear. It broke their hearts to hear how defeated he sounded, even mikasa cried hearing his heartbroken tone. She had no idea how much he cared for the captain until now. Now that she was actually witnessing him.

"I'm here." Levi answered, although knowing his beloved Eren couldn't hear him. "And for you… I'll fight." They heard him say softly as he stood up and gently guided Erens limbs. He guided his hands to gently lay his lifeless body on the ground, gently pulling him up to a standing position. Floating a bit he slowly guided Eren's hands to grab his sword hilts guiding them to attach the blade. He slowly turned him around making Eren see the horde coming. "Keep your promise to me." The team heard him whisper and for some reason they saw Eren's face go from sad to determined.

"Don't worry captain, I'll keep my promise to you." Eren replied unknowing of his captains words. Levi helped guide him in using his ODM gear. Levi helped guide Eren through all the safe spots in the horde to be able to slice them down efficiently and effectively killing all 5 in an instant.

Eren was gently guided back down to the group. Once his promise was kept Levi walked to stand behind him and smiled gently up at Eren. He knew the others could see him but all he cared about was Eren, after all he loved him.

"Even in death he protects us." Mikasa muttered to herself. It was meant to be kept to herself but however sadly since Eren was back standing over his captains lifeless body he heard her every word. Though he chose to say nothing about it nor acknowledge what she said for he did not understand her words. How could he? He couldn't see his lover smiling up at him from behind, while the rest could.

"Hey." Connie whispered towards the group attempting to be as quiet as possible, though failing miserably. "Anyone else confused as to why the captain is only calling out to Eren? I mean were on his squad too. He said he cared about us too so why only Eren?"

Hearing this Eren's eyes snapped open wide. He knew he couldn't ignore this statement any longer. After all it came from two people this time, not just one. From that statement he had an inkling he knew what it meant but didn't want to say anything in case he was wrong. Though that didn't stop his heart from beating rapidly against his chest with hope.

"What did you just say?" Eren asked wide eyed as he slowly turned to face his comrade who was frozen stiff as if he had gotten caught doing something he wasn't suppose to. Connie had no idea if it was a good thing or not to tell Eren that there captain still lingered behind because Eren couldn't let go so he stayed quiet and looked to Jean or Armin for help.

"Eren…" Jean started catching Eren's attention taking the spotlight off of a still frozen Connie. "… captain Levi has been calling out to you ever since he passed…" He said slowly squinting his eyes judging Eren's reaction. " He hasn't looked at anyone of us even though we can all see him."

"What are you talking about?" Eren asked slowly as if trying to process the information correctly. He wanted to make absolutely sure that he was getting this right and it seemed as if captain levi knew because he smiled and walked to stand in front of a now frowning Eren.

"Eren." Levi called again this time knowing his squad will relay the message. Even though Eren couldn't see him it didn't stop him from trying to catch his attention.

"His spirit is standing in front of you. Calling out to you." Armin explained seriously glancing between Eren to Levi then back again. Eren saw this too which made his heart stop. His captain was still by his side.

Sadness and hope lingered in Erens heart as he collapsed to his knees softly as he stared down at his captains lifeless body, almost expecting him to open his eyes. "Captain.. I need you… I'm weak without you…"Eren pleaded selfishly. He knew he was being selfish but he just couldn't let go of his beloved captain levi, his lover.

"I'm right here." Levi said softly as he kneeled down on his right knee in front of Eren, gently placing a hand on his head. He smiled down at his teal eyed young soldier. He was happy he finally knew he was still here and by his side.

"Captain… if your there… please come back to us…" Eren whispered softly as tears started streaming down his cheeks in sadness as he saw his captain just laying there unmoving. "Whats he saying?" He knew it was going to make him sadder knowing he couldn't see nor hear but he had to know anyway.

"Well…" Jean started knowing no one else wanted to speak up. "… he's been calling out your name and telling you to get up, that its dangerous to stay here." He replied sorrowfully. He saw pain crossing his face but he didn't regret telling him.

"Those his exact words?" Eren asked softly closing his eyes wanting so badly to hear his captains voice. He was hoping that if he closed his eyes he could see or feel something from his captain. Though to no avail.

"No… his words were… 'Eren'… He said that 4 times before saying 'get up, its dangerous… please get up… He's also been saying 'I'm right here.'…" Sasha responded sadly looking down at her hands unable to bring herself to look at Eren or Levi. It was too heart breaking to see Eren so sad while there captain attempted to comfort him.

"I wont ever leave your side." Levi said softly making everyones heads snap to look at him with wide eyes. This got Erens attention immediately.

"What?! What happened?!" He asked frantically, looking around to see if he could see what everyone else was seeing. Though it saddened him it also frustrated him.

"Its…." Armin started unable to finish, too shocked at what he just heard. There captain wasn't leaving there side after all. That's when Eren noticed tears started to stream down everyone elses cheeks as well. Though it was joyful tears and he couldn't understand why.

"What?" Eren asked again a little louder frustrated at not knowing why they were crying tears of joy. He looked down a little angry and jealous that he couldn't see his captain like they could.

Levi smiled gently seeing this. "…. Eren." He said softly as he used both hands to grab Erens head in his hands, gently lifting it so that he could be eye level with him. After he had his head between his palms he disappeared from everyones view making them gasp and look around frantically in fear that he actually left.

Though this time Eren was the only one able to see him and hear him. When Eren felt soft hands caressing his face he opened his eyes to see levi kneeling on one knee down in front of him smiling gently over to him. This made Eren's eyes widen, which caught everyones attention.

Levi, once he had caught Eren's attention finally gently brought his lips to place a soft kiss to Eren's forehead. Closing his eyes Eren took a deep breath relishing in his soft hands. Levi placed his forehead on Erens, too closing his eyes. Though this time it wasn't private, the squad saw their captain with his forehead resting against Eren's as they both closed there eyes.

They had no idea what was going on but all they cared about was that they could see their captain again. They were confused as to how soft and caring he was being only to Eren when in the scouts he was harsh.

Jean's and Armin's eyes widened drastically as something clicked into place finally. Their captain was connected to Eren somehow, that's why neither could part.

"Kindred spirits." Armin muttered softly to himself. This instantly caught Mikasa's attention as she immediately turned her attention towards him. She didn't like what she heard nor saw but she didn't say anything, because she remembered just how broken Eren was seeing his captain dead.

"Please Levi…" Eren whispered keeping his eyes closed. "Live." He begged as stray tears started to roll down his cheeks slowly through levi's palms. "For me."

"Of course." Levi whispered knowing Eren possibly couldn't hear his voice any longer. This being true Eren opened his eyes to see Levi pulling back smiling back at him. He then disappeared from Eren's view once again but not the others. They were watching him as if in slow motion.

They watched him stand up and walk over to his body before sitting down and laying himself in the same position, successfully disappearing inside his body and coming back to land of the living.

Once they saw him disappear inside his body they ran to his side to see if he would live again or if it was just false hope. Eren seeing there reaction moved his eyes towards his captains body.

" * Cough* " was heard from their beloved captain as he sucked a deep breath showing them he forced himself back because he knew they needed him, that it wasn't his time yet.

Eren dove straddling on leg as he pulled his captain into him burying his face into his neck, sobbing in happiness. His captain came back to him. He came back because he asked him too. He cared for him more then the others. He knew this was only possible if it were true.

"Eren." Levi muttered weakly coughing up blood. Eren's only response was to hold on tighter and sob. With what little strength he had left he slowly wrapped his arms around Eren and weakly hugged back as he allowed Eren to cry into his neck. "My kindred spirit." Levi muttered softly with closed eyes. Only those surrounding him, which consisted of Jean and Armin, heard this.

They were truly kindred spirits. Individuals that resonate at the same level or frequency. Lovers. This was the reason they couldn't part from eachother. This is what gave Levi the strength to come back to Eren, to be able to come back.
