8 The Possibility

The day continued on as I monitored the people of the 10th floor to the ground floor. My co-workers and I also had to monitor the parking spaces as well.

I saw two co-workers talking with each other. One of them gave a syringe with blue liquid to the other.

Blue Moon.

"I think it should be fine." the first worker said. "It's quite time consuming working here, energy consuming as well might I add."

Don't do that brother, I thought of the worker and his colleague. Blue Moon is not the answer.

"Just let them be." Regan said. "As head of the 10th floor offices. I allow it. Just make sure you don't kill yourself at work. This place needs live workers, not dead ones."

"Pardon me Mr. Regan, but we don't know how much of that has been consumed, rather, is that truly safe and it's from Mortiqar themselves." I countered

"Elotro. I admire your caring attitude towards your fellow Decouns." Regan started to speak back, raising his tone. "Truly, that kind of attitude where solidarity and empathy is spread is a good thing, if we were in the old days of the nation." he said the old days in a mocking tone.

He added. "Unfortunately we do not live in that age, we live in a new age, it's important that we all maintain a stable mind and honestly, as long as it does not harm others, I don't see why people should not indulge in their personal activities of hedonism, something that calms down the mind, releases their stress."

I was quiet at Regan's ranting. The other workers were paying attention to me, and there were also cameras that were monitoring the entire office I was in.

I did not want to speak out now, but I continued to listen.

"The problem with the positive traits you have Eletro, is that it's unlikely people will actually receive it and get the message. It's unlikely that they will able to get their head out of their asses and listen to what you have to tell them, or the advice you give to them."

Regan placed his hands into his pockets. "Point is, once people are drowning in hedonism, either Blue Moon or one of those virtual reality dating simulators, that's all they're going to focus on; being happy, especially since the Tsunami or any other. Trust me when I say this, it's going to be hard to get them back to reality."

Sometimes I wonder whether or not Regan was aware of the danger of Blue Moon, that it can start to have the person's brain generate lights within their hallucination, and depending on the person themselves, they may entice themselves to get into a heavy seizure.

"I'm surprised you never took up Blue Moon at first, but that's no longer a strange fact nowadays. Who would have thought Mortiqar made that thing as a mood booster but now it's just piling up dead bodies over these last few years."

It's the people, Regan, some people can't guide themselves to resist it, they need guidance.

***

Mortiqar was indeed under a lawsuit following the multiple rising deaths that occured around West of Decou. The company had to recall as many pills, dosages and syringes as possible.

"I doubt this will really end. The Blue Moon issue." Fiona spoke as she and I were grabbing lunch. We were blessed with an air conditioned cafeteria which had shining floors, as well as large lights that made the place brighter.

A storm was coming from the looks of the gray sky, just a large coat of gray covering the upper atmosphere. None of the people here shuddered at the sound of the thunder rumbling in the background.

They were getting used to it, just like how Blue Moon users were getting used to it.

"A kind reminder for all employees. Within the next hour, a search team will be deployed to track down any signs of Blue Moon and it's users. Unless you do not suffer any of its side effects, then you are required to cancel all other activities and allow yourselves to undergo a series of checks from the hospitals. Great Health to you All."

"I think it's ironic don't you think, Elotro?"

"Hmm?"

Fiona was eating up her seasoned chicken with rice, and took a sip of her tea. "People take Blue Moon to feel good about themselves; relief stress, a mood booster that's certified by the government."

"Don't forget to support Saturn-Voyde." I tell her. "Do you know how long we've been partners with Mortiqar?"

Fiona nodded. "I am fully aware of it. My point is people who did take Blue Moon will be put into hospitals where they'll have to take more drugs in an attempt to make themselves better again."

"Personally I wish I could do something about it." I complained.

"I know. My neighbor, for instance, overdosed on Blue Moon. When I arrived at her house to borrow some cooking utensils she was shaking on the floor, lying down. Said she wanted to relieve the stress of facing her husband, she said."

"You helped her, that's admirable, unlike a certain someone who tried to tell me to know my place and not interfere with Blue Moon users."When Fiona asked me what was the fuss about, I told her everything about what Regan told me.

By the time I was finished explaining, I was not surprised that she was disgusted by Regan's words.

"Regan is the epitome of a smartass, and a fiend." she started. "And an asshole. Flirting with the women here is one thing, but flirting with those who were already in a relationship with the men here?Especially those in the Higher departments?"

Speaking of higher departments….

"Elotro." I saw Chevarin Kyle. Behind him were nearly dressed men and women. Fiona gave them an odd look, but they did not pay attention to her. Their eyes were locked onto me.

"I hope I'm not bothering." he started.

"No sir." Fiona gave a smile. It seemed forced. "Not at all."

"I overheard certain things that happen around the bottom floors, that a certain supervisor by the name of Regan was apparently doing things he shouldn't be doing?"

Fiona and I gave a small gasp, then she opened up. "It's not the worst, but he has no excuse to do those...things."

"I assume he did not just have a potty mouth?""Kyle asked.

"No sir, there's...worse than that."

"Assault?"

"No sir." Fiona spoke. She was trembling as she was silent for a few seconds. Has something happened between her and Regan before? "It's not assault, but it was beyond a cruel joke." She looked down.

"I see." Kyle spoke. Every other Higher employee nodded and saw Fiona's state; some of them had pity on their faces.

"If these things regarding Regan were true, then we could speak to the Director about this, have him do something about it. We could even transfer you and several other certain workers to higher floors, perhaps floor 20 or 30th." Kyle explained. Fiona looked at him with widened eyes. "All we need is a testimony from the people who suffered under Regan's position in the 10th floor."

At this point I think things could be better for the offices, but I couldn't see any difference. Regan might have been a troubling fellow, but this Blue Moon is something that I think can't be ignored.

Even with Mortiqar doing a recall of all their products of Blue Moon, what's the possibility that someone out there might bring it back into society? Or maybe there's a worse replacement?
