7 Know Your Place

Like most of the areas within the Saturn-Voyde building, the 10th floor was air conditioned, and the offices had temperatures that made the place as cold as a meat locker. This prompted many of us to wear jackets if not sweaters.

Personally, my body fat enabled me to withstand the coldness of the office by the time I arrived and opened the gray metal door with my keycard. The lights were surprisingly bright by the time I went inside. I saw my desk, located to the left of the balcony. Across my desk was a door that led to the 10th floor security control room.

I had placed my bag containing my utensils and my laptop, before I logged onto the usual computer that was placed. All computers here were made by Saturn-Voyde.

It wasn't just the computers on this floor, it was also the vast majority of the floors here. People like Kyle, people who were on floor 40th up to 50th. These people were mostly allowed to have their own sets of computers.

We were talking about professional computers, in regards to its sleek and light design of its monitors, in addition to the latest in CPU units. Each of their computers ran at an astonishing rate of 100 Mbps, supported even more by the equally fast connections the building has all over the place.

Connections are so good and wide that you could even get Internet at the lowest basement parking lot. Signals wouldn't be as strong as the upper floors, but there was a signal nonetheless.

Decoun parents were unsurprisingly different than most people that use phones nowadays. The ones who really boasted of how back in the day people interacted with one another. I was grateful that my parents weren't like those people

"I hate to associate myself with those adults." my father Sado spoke. "You can blame your kid's problems on something you can control. Idiot."

My father was a proud Decoun, and I could not remember a time where he didn't act hostile when hearing news or incidents he deems as "stupid". He had been doing his routine, as he called it, for years.

He was already starting to grow gray hair these last few years, but that didn't stop him from yelling at the top of his lungs when it came to scorning people he didn't like, or the types of them.

That also included people who consumed a bit too much Blue Moon

My shift at work barely ever changed. Everyone else had similar tasks as I did on the 10th floor. We were essentially a line up of security workers, including those working in the Analyst division. My computer was essentially connected to several cameras embedded into the upper corners of walls.

The only places that weren't placed with cameras were the restrooms, cause in spite of Saturn-Voyde's policy of carefulness and surveillance, not even they won't violate the users of the restrooms.

"Good morning." I overheard a loud voice entering the office. I saw Regan and his dark green suit, made him really look like he was made out of money. Never Understood his taste for green if you ask me, considering his meals of choice at the cafeteria and beyond were anything but green.

He was not a junk food eater, but he was far from a vegan, whom he dubbed as the freaks who can't eat meat.

Rest assured, some vegetarians working in this office felt offended by his comment, but we were all told to dismiss any form of commentary unless it was truly degrading, or was even considered as defamation in the first place.

In Decou, you couldn't really churn out your accusations unless you provided hard evidence; the Ministry of Law, head by Minister Lawson, stated that if you, a Decoun citizen, failed to provide hard evidence within 3 days, you would be jailed for a certain amount of time depending on how severe the accusation was.

From what I heard, that's exactly what happened to a number of people around the nation, in addition to a few women who accused high societal men of "certain actions.". To add insult to injury, Saturn-Voyde sent letters to other firms and organizations to dismiss these people based on their accusations.

I was focused on my task, monitoring the workers who were given smaller tasks from the upper floors; filing and recording the data of sales in addition to developments of all the projects here at Saturn-Voyde.

We were partnered with various businesses, including Mortiqar.

"Elotro." I heard a feminine voice. I turned to see a bright haired woman with a ponytail. Her skirt was jetblack, and like everyone else here, she had a blue shirt and tie.

"Fiona." I spoke as the only noise present was the numerous amounts of typing from all the workers and their respective computers. There was some chatter amongst the employees regarding what they've seen on their computer screens, but beyond that and the sound of the air conditioning from the vents on the ceiling, there was not a lot of sound going on.

I wanted to retract that thought by the sound of thunder bursting in the background. Fiona and I slightly jumped before we took a few seconds to look out the window, then I shifted my attention to her.

"How are you?"

I told her about how I felt regarding Blue Moon.

She nodded and hummed in understanding. "It's...hard to avoid talking about it, but unfortunately some people, including my parents, said I should turn a blind eye." Fiona started to rant, but she positioned herself close to me, to avoid making a larger speech. "I-"

We were both startled by the sound of a speaker. It was the Director. Very rarely does he make a speech for all of us to hear.

"Employees of Saturn-Voyde, I hope all of you are doing fine in this glorious nation on this equally spectacular day. I am unfortunate to say that our longest collaborating partner in business, Mortiqar, will temporarily be absent from our collaboration projects and future events, as the company has announced that they will be under investigation by the Ministry of Law, following an increase of 20% deaths by Blue Moon."

The Director continued. "Other than this sad news, I wish to remind everyone that as a nation that embodies integrity and peace, I expect all members of this company to respect one another, and there will be no false accusations or any forms of defamation to one another, even as a joke.

"In addition, there have been reports rising regarding certain citizens getting involved with the Law. By that I refer to the unreasonable act that is known as vigilantism. As a nation, we strive to rely on the Law in order to maintain the peace this country believes in. If you are involved in any crime or interfere with the process of the Law, then the company will not provide you a lawyer or support should you end up in court."

"Any form of disturbing the peace within this company will have their contract terminated, and at least 50% of all your earnings return to the company. Depending on the severity of any of your harmful actions, the company will be forced to subject you to the Reformation Camp, North of the city. Remember, the Board and I will decide what choices come in and out for the employees. You are in no position to make your own decisions. Know your Place. This is your Director speaking, Great Health to all of You."
