16 Don't let the Bug Bite

My desk of the new office I was relocated in was very much near the window, at the edge of the room. There were other desks next to me, but there was a barrier in between. This was to provide each worker the space to, uh, work properly and peacefully.

Saturn-Voyde had a strict policy on noise. It was very much fine to talk here as long as it was related to business.

When I remember that policy, one must wonder if the entire company as a whole was plagued by bugs, the ones recording each and every single thing every staff member of this place speakers.

I checked under my desk, while also making a mock act of tying my shoe or dropping my pen.

Nothing.

I pretended to look at the back of my computer monitor and the CPU. The back didn't wave any results of a bug, nor was the CPU itself. In most cases, I could try dismantling it, but there's a problem with that.

I sighed at the logo of the CPU and the monitor.

Both of these things were also provided by the company, and the screws on the products were quite special in some way. They were still round like any other screw but the hole itself had a very odd shape.

Think of it as a crossover between a rectangle, an oval and a cross.

"Elotro" I heard Fiona's voice calling out to me. Looking up, I saw her wear the usual blue uniform that most of the staff were wiring. "Are you busy?"

My computer was not on to search the files of the company using cameras in the past, hence me sighing in relief. "No, not at all."

She took the empty office chair that was next to my desk, before sitting in front of me. Her face was near me. "Are you part of the BLV?" she whispered. Her face was filled with curiosity, but her eyes indicated some worry.

I whispered back yes.

"Why?" she whispered again.

"You can't expect me to sit on my ass do you?" I bluntly told her. "Decou is my home."

"It's also mine and everyone else's." Fiona defended. "Blue Moon may be a dangerous thing about here because of how addicting it is-"

"Then what about the recall from Mortiqar? How long has it been so far since they were going to trial."

"You mean they were going to take part in the trial." Fiona sighed in discontempt. "They're still active at the moment, active at work with their other products."

I felt a small surge of my blood boiling. "What?"

"Elotro, this company has history with them as partners." Fiona spoke. "Even before you and I started working here."

"But is that really an excuse? When we're not working we should be out there, trying to stop Blue Moon from getting to citizens of this nation."

"You sound like you're solely blaming the drug."

"No I am not." I raised my voice. "I do think that people need to be educated more about things like this, and no, the Reformation Camp isn't an option."

"You heard what the Director once said before right? About getting involved in things like this…"

At this point the offices were semi-full. Our co-workers were at their desks typing or analyzing data away, but I doubted their eyes were solely focused on the screens in front of them. I stood up from my seat, and approached them.

"Elotro?" Fiona asked behind me. I didn't realize she was following me until she saw me be in front of the co-workers. Her eyes widened in horror at what she saw. "Disgusting!"

"Oh buzz off Fiona." the first co-worker said, who in his phone, had the picture of a woman wearing a two piece bikini at a beach on a seemingly hot summer day. "

"Yeah." the second co-worker said. "Take your damn prudeness somewhere else."

"How dare you, you should have known to take your business elsewhere." Fiona argued.

"I said, buzz off!" the first co-worker yelled out. "I swear, you're always sticking your damn nose in other people's business more than someone in a marathon of snorting Blue Moon."

Fiona caused herself to be in the argument with the two co-workers. As this occurred, I heard a voice call out my name. Turning my back toward the door, I saw Kyle standing by.

"Elotro." he started as I approached him. Next to him was a man in a brown uniform with the embedded logo of a letter. I recognized it as the National Postal Service logo. The man was carrying a bag on him, typical of an employee from the NPS to bring hand held packages.

"Package for you." Kyle spoke. "Also, since I just so happen to pass by, I'll let you know from now that there's gonna be an inspection."

"Inspection?"

"Yeah, Director wants a full clean sweep of the floors, wants to make sure nobody's carrying anything unnecessary." Kyle said as he tilted his head and saw Fiona arguing with the co-workers. "What's going on there?"

"Just a heated disagreement." I stammered. "I shall see to it."

Kyle hummed in suspicion, before he said. "Keep it under tabs. Other than your new supervisor of this floor I'd recommend that you best make sure nobody goes wild, understood?"

I was surprised at Kyle's trust towards me. "Yes Mr. Kyle."

"Good." Kyle gave a smirk before patting me on the shoulder. "Talk to you next time." As he left me with the delivery man, the delivery man himself spoke.

"Not in here." the delivery man spoke. "I'm here on behalf of Ignacio and the BLV."

Ah, crap!

The delivery man, who for some reason refused to give his name, brought me out of the offices and leading me slightly towards the elevators.

"Elotro right?" the delivery man asked as he handed me the package. "Your pen pal has sent this for you. He expects you shall look at it immediately."

I raised an eyebrow, before I realized this was a gimmick.

"Ah yes, thank you." I lied. If there was a camera behind or in front of me, it might record the my voice. I then followed the delivery man's gimmick, by fake signing the clarification paper stating that the client has received their package.

"Have a nice day sir. Peace be with you." the delivery man spoke before he made his way towards the elevators. I looked at the package, and I saw a letter attached to it. It was marked for me, as I saw my name on it.

I swear if this is the bug Ignacio wanted me to plant in one of the control rooms, then I'm screwed.
