1 Chapter 1

"In ancient times, wizards/witches used a medium to preform spells. That medium would either be an object, human, or animal. Now, in modern times, spells aren't used. Mediums aren't needed. There is no flashy magic.. Unless you look at the mall's magician, they use some pretty loud props.

Now, in modern times, the element that replaced magic was science. There is still a sparkle of magic in people's soul, but that is just used to find their element. Everyone knows the basic elements; earth, fire, water, and air. As well as the sub-elements; lightning, ice, light, darkness, metal, etc. Yet now, in this Earth's time, the word element doesn't just refer to Nature's forces. Even animals are referred to as elements. Any animal can be tied to a person's soul. Willingly, of course.

The animal, or element if you will, become affiliated with that one person. Many people can have the same element, but they would still be slightly different from each other. If your element is affiliated with you, then that animal would follow you everywhere, but they would also try to protect you. Your element is considered a guardian in some cultures.

The stronger your element is, the higher up you will get in soci- Min. Min Baek are you listening??"

Min's head snapped up, staring at the teacher. "You called?"

The teacher sighed, rubbing her nose, quite irritated at her. "I asked if you were listening. Obviously you were not." She scowled.

Min shrugged. "You are quite boring. I've heard this before, I don't need to hear it again." She remarked with a slight frown. She had slight dark circles under her eyes, mostly due to her reading at night.

The teacher frowned, glaring a bit at her. "Well then stop learning the materials ahead of time." The teacher uplifted her frown and turned to the whole class. "You should be happy to know, that we will be going on a trip tomorrow to the Affiliate Zoo. Over next week will be the time to find your element. I say over the week because?" The teacher explain, glaring at Min when she spoke the last sentence.

Min sighed. "Because it can take time for someone's element to appear and accept them." She said easily with a slight wave of her hand.

"Correct." The teacher responded, disappointed she got it right.

The teacher addressed the class again. "Today's class will end early so please make sure to get enough rest for tomorrow and the rest of the week. Have a good day!" She exclaimed as students began to leave the classroom. "Min Baek to me for a moment." The teacher grunted.

Min sighed and went over to the teacher's desk. "What?" She asked, annoyed, already knowing what was to come.

Wind blew past the two, the blinds snapping shut. A gorgeous raven appeared on the teacher's shoulder, nipping her ear affectionately. Min rolled her eyes at the show. "Oooh spooky, I am so scared of the dark and your element." She said sarcastically. Min glared at the teacher. "When are you gonna stop targeting me like this?"

The teacher had the audacity to look surprised. "Targeting you? Darling if I was targeting you, you would have walked home with a limp." She responded with a cold sneer.

Min slightly froze, a bit ticked off. "Is that a threat?" She asked slowly, some strain in her voice.

The teacher laughed, "No no, of course not dear. I was simply explaining to you what targeting you meant." She said with a light chuckle, though her raven was staring at Min the entire time, possibly waiting for the command.

A slight sneer appeared on the teacher's face. "Oh I do so wish to see your element tomorrow. You've already read the material, so you should be the quickest to understand the elements and bond with yours, no?" She expressed, sarcasm in her voice.

Min glared at her. "Fine. I'll get my element tomorrow and shut you up." She said before turning away and leaving the classroom with the teacher baffled by the remark.
