11 Chapter 9: Goodbye My Friend

I looked at the cat that was in front of me for just a few moments, as I blinked a few times as well. It was not what I had been expecting at all. It was a very old cat, and a very ugly one at that, as it did not look like a cat that could teach me how to hunt, much less hunt for her self none the less.

I did not want to say any thing to her about it either, as I was not going to be one to judge the poor old hag. I shook my head a bit any ways, as I blinked a few more times again, as it was a fair bit for me to take in, and just based off of the look that I could see on the face of Ben, as he stared at me, he was practically just telling me to be quiet and not say any thing.

As I thought back on it now, I had in fact remembered that Ben had told me that it was going to be a very old cat, as well as the fact that the cat was a bit mean, and a bit harsh. It was kind of hypocritical if she could not take what she dealt, if I had to say so my self how ever.

I shook my head at the same time too how ever, as right now it felt like I was the cat being harsh, as I did not know this cat at all, and I was already judging the poor cat, just based off of her appearance, and the fact that it was a very old cat as well. I turned my head away, as I felt like I could not look at the cat any longer, before I said some thing that would be very rude.

I let out a bit of a sigh at the same time as well, as I looked up at the sky at the same time too, as it at least made me feel a bit better, to get my head off of all of those other thoughts at the exact moment in time. I stared at the sun, as it did not seem to burn my eyes at all as I looked in to it for quite a bit of some time.

I noticed that the sun was already starting to dip low in to the horizon at the same time as well, meaning that we would soon have to go and get some sleep for the night very soon. I was not sure if I wanted to sleep in the same air space as the cat that was in front of me how ever, as I was not sure what that cat might have in her.

I shivered a bit at the thought of it, as I just kept on staring up at the sky, as I just wanted all of this to go away. I felt like, all of the sudden, I was starting to regret my decision on coming to this place in the first place. I kind of felt like I was being a bit harsh too, as I did not know this cat at all, and I also knew that she was supposed to help me in the first place.

As I looked back at the cat that was behind me how ever, and just based off of the fact that I could see the cat having her eyes squinted at me, I had already came to the assumption that I was not going to like this cat all that much at all. I dipped my head a bit low to the ground, as I was now really regretting coming here.

I felt like there really had been some thing that Ben had not told me before we got to this place, and I wondered if he perhaps might have not told me, due to him worried that it might influence me in to making a bad decision. I was not sure if being here was a good decision how ever, as it felt like I was the one getting judged a lot more than her judging me.

I was not going to say any thing at all about it how ever, as I then just shook my head, as I stared at the cat, as she looked back over to my friend Ben, as she kept her eyes squinted at him, as she finally began to speak to him at the exact same time too. I blinked a few times as well, as I then listened as to what it was that the old cat had to say to my friend in the first place.

"Are you going to answer my question Ben? Who is your friend that you brought with you this time? Is he looking for a home, what is the point in him?" She said, asking a whole lot of questions to Ben at the same time too. It was just as I had expected, and I almost wanted to hiss at the old cat, for the way that she had just spoken to Ben in the first place.

I decided not too how ever, as I also remembered at the same time as well, that it might be a bad decision by me to do so, as this was apparently the cat that was going to go and teach me how to hunt. As much as the fact that I did not like the first impression that I got on her, I also realized at the same time that I might need this cat, and it would not be a smart decision for me to be rude to her.

I still could not help but keep my eyes squinted at the cat, as I knew that she could see me through the corner of her eyes, as I did so in the first place, though she did a good job to just ignore me, as I did so. She looked at Ben for a little while longer, as I could tell that to my surprise, which was not normal for him, he was not doing too well at handling all of the pressure.

I felt like I should step in at some point soon, as I moved forward a little bit, but I then saw Ben shake his head at me to get me to stop where I stood at, at this very instance. I tilted my head a little bit confused, as I was not so sure as to what it was that was going on with him at the same time too.

Ben turned his head back to the old cat that was in front of him how ever, as he then nodded to her at the same time as well, as I saw him smile a little bit at the cat, though she did not smile back at him at all. I did notice that it did seem to relax her just a little bit how ever, as she then nodded back to Ben after just a little bit longer.

Ben let out quite a loud sigh, which I was not so sure if that might be a good thing for him to do, with the cat that was with us right now. I blinked a few times, as I shook off all of those thoughts at the same time too, as Ben finally began to speak back to the she cat, and both me and her listened to what it was that he had to say back to her as well.

"This cat is the son of another cat that I brought to you this one time Night... His name was Frank, not sure if you remember that cat at all..." He said to Night, the old cat that he was speaking to right now. I looked at Ben for a few moments, a bit confused, until it hit me that he was talking about my father. I was not so sure what to do, as I looked at Night, and saw that she had a bit of a blank look on her face at the same time as well, as it seemed that the story that Ben was telling her, clearly did not matter to her at all. I figured that it should not matter to me either, as I put my head a bit low to the ground, as I then heard the voice of Ben, as he continued where he left off on speaking, as I listened to what it was that he had to say once again. "Well... He wants to learn how to hunt out in the wild..."

I had my head dipped a little bit low to the ground for just a bit more of some time, as I saw the old she cat turn her head over to me, and squint her eyes at me at the exact same time as well. I kept my head dipped a bit low to the ground, as I was not so sure as to what it was that I should say, so I instead just did my best to try to ignore her, which I felt might have been me making a bad decision too.

The cat then began to get up close to me at the exact same time too, which got me feeling quite a bit uncomfortable as well, as based off of the look on the face of Ben, this was just normal, and this was some thing that she always did. I blinked a few times at the same time as well, as when she got close to me, she had a bit of a putrid scent all over her fur.

I almost wanted to vomit at the smell of it, but I did my best to just ignore it, as I held in my breath for a bit of some time until she moved off of me just a little bit too. It felt like it was going to take her a bit of some time for her to do so, as she seemed to be sniffing me, for some odd reason or another, for a very long amount of time.

It was as if she was enjoying the smell of me compared to her. I never thought that I had the best smell to come from a cat on me, but it was certainly at least a lot better than the smell that was coming from this cat. She stood there for a little bit longer, as I looked at Ben, as I could tell that he felt quite a bit bad for me.

I wondered why he had brought me here in the first place, but I shook off all of those thoughts right away, as I remembered that he had in fact just told her that he had brought me here so that she would teach me how to hunt. I blinked a few times, as I looked at the old cat that went by the name of Night in front of me, as she finally moved a fair distance back from me.

I let out a bit of a sigh of relief, as I all of the sudden got back at least a some what decent smell of the abandoned two leg nest that was in front of us, though that was not much better, it was certainly a lot better than her, as I moved back a little bit, as thankfully she did not seem to notice, nor care one bit about it.

Night looked at Ben for a little while longer, as I could tell to my surprise, that this cat some how managed to get in to his head. It was a bit of a surprise to me, as he usually got in to my own head, and this cat did not seem to bother me at all, as I was just too busy thinking of the nasty smell that came from her fur.

I blinked a few times, as I shook off those thoughts, as I assumed that maybe it was because Ben knew her a lot better than I did clearly. I looked at Night for some more time, looking at Ben from the corner of my eyes as well, as Night, finally decided she was ready to speak back to Ben, as I looked at Ben, as I listened to Night, to hear what it was that she had to say back to my friend at the same time too.

"Well... There is not much time left in this day for me to teach him all that much, but I suppose I can teach him how to hunt mice before we need to rest for the night..." She said to Ben at first, as I saw Ben nod to me at the same time as well. Night, the old she cat did not seem to be paying me any attention at all, as she was telling Ben what it was that she was going to teach me. She looked at Ben for just a little while longer as well, as she then began to speak to him once again, and I let out a bit of a soft sigh, as I listened to what it was that she had to say to him. "What is the name of this cat?"

I stared at the back side of the she cat, as I was a little bit confused as to why she was asking him that question, but she was not seeming to pay me a lick of attention at all. I also was a bit surprised as to the fact that she wanted to know my name, but she did not seem to have any reaction to the fact that Ben had said the name of my father.

All and all, as I was just a little bit lost, and I was kind of questioning my self, as to why I had come to this place in the first place. I had a perfectly fine and safe home as to where I was at before. I had my friend Ben come to me every few days, and we could talk, and he could tell me a bunch of stories.

Life was fine before, and I knew that as soon as I went out in to the wild, I was going to lose all of that. I did my best to not dip my head to the ground, as I was not sure as to what it was that was going on with me at the exact moment. I knew why I wanted to go out in to the wild, what was wrong with me?

I had always imagined living out in the wild, and getting to be free out there, so what was going on with me, and what was I thinking about? I shook my head, as it kind of felt like I was going crazy at the same time too, as I sighed a bit to my self, and then I got my focus back on to the cat that was speaking to Ben.

I looked at Ben, as I saw that he had a bit of a blank look on his face, as he was looking right at me, as if I was the one that she be talking right now. I blinked my eyes a few times, as I was still a bit lost, as I did not have much of a clue as to what was going on in the first place.

As I looked at the old she cat, and I saw the look on the face of my friend Ben, it all of the sudden hit me, as to what it was, as I then remembered that the old she cat had just asked for my name, but she had done it in a bit of a weird way, as to where she asked Ben for my name, rather than me my self, as I was right behind her.

It confused me quite a bit, as it felt like there was a lot of strange things going on today, as I shook my head at the exact same time as well. I knew that the old she cat, that went by the name of Night, was paying me no attention at all for her to notice that, so I spoke up a bit loud to her, to make sure that she heard as to what it was that I was saying to her.

"My name is Kettle... I am here, you can talk to me..." I said to her, trying not to be too rude to her, as I knew that this was the cat that was going to teach me how to hunt, and if I was mean to her, she could easily just decide that she was not going to teach me how to do so in the first place.

Night, the she cat, turned her head around to me, as she squinted her eyes at me at the same time too. She turned her head over to my friend Ben for just half a second, as she shook her head at him, as if she was disappointed in him for some odd reason or another, which confused me quite a bit, as I wondered if I had some how missed some thing important.

Why had it seemed that she wanted to get the answer from Ben, and not from me? Was she wondering if I was actually a friend of his? Was she not going to teach me how to hunt if I was not his friend? I shook my head as I felt like even if that was the case, there was no need for me to worry about that at all any ways.

Me and Ben were friends, so it was not like he had just come to her and lied. I shivered a little bit, as I had not a clue as to what was going on still, as I saw Night finally fully turn her head over to me, as she then nodded to me at the exact same time too. I blinked my eyes just a few times, as I then nodded back to her.

I was still a bit worried if I might have some how hurt the cats feelings. I did not know this cat still, even though I had felt like I might have learned a fair amount about her, just based on the few moments that we had been near each other. I could tell that she viewed her self as the superior cat, even though she was much smaller, and older than the both of us.

I did not add any thing on about that to her how ever, as I shook off those thoughts at the same time as well, as the she cat finally decided that she was going to speak to me, as it got my attention off of all of those use less thoughts, as I then listened as to what it was that she had to say to me in the first place.

"Well Kettle... I am going to teach you how to hunt mice... And you better listen to me... Just because I am an old cat, does not mean I am stupid... If you don't listen to me, I will refuse to teach you how to hunt." She said to me, as I looked at her for a few moments, as I was a bit surprised as to the way that she had said that to me.

I looked at her for a few moments, as I was a little bit surprised by the way that she had said to me, as she certainly was a brave cat, no doubt about that, as I blinked a few times, and I then nodded back to the old she cat, to let her know that I had heard what it was that she had just said to me.

She seemed to be okay with that too, as she then turned her head over to Ben at the same time too, as she nodded to him, as if she was trying to teach him how to hunt at the same time as well. I blinked a few times, as I was a bit confused, as I wondered if the old she cat might perhaps have memory loss, and might have forgot which cat she was trying to teach.

To my surprise how ever, I saw Ben dip his head a little bit low to the ground, as he then nodded back to the old she cat, as a bit of a response to what it was that she had just done. I was a little bit confused, as it seemed like they might be talking to one another in some sort of language that traveled through each others heads.

It brought back a theory I had once, that Ben was able to read my mind. I shook my head, as I shook off those thoughts at the same time as well how ever, as I felt like a bit of an idiot once again for even thinking that way. I let out a bit of a sigh, as I blinked my eyes a few times too, as I saw Ben begin to walk over to me.

I tilted my head, as I was a bit confused as to what was going on at the current moment, as I saw him all of the sudden nod to me. I kept my head tilted to him, as I was still quite a bit confused, but I nodded back to him, as I then heard him begin to speak to me, as I listened as to what it was that he had to say to me at the same time too.

"It is time for me to go... She does not like it when another cat listens to her when she teaches... I love you Kettle..." He said to me at first, as I blinked a few times, as I was a bit shocked as to the fact that he was leaving me so soon. He let out a bit of a soft sigh, as I dipped my head to the ground as he continued to speak to me. "Goodbye my friend..."
