Burt and Connie Cunningham’s grandchildren create an impressive snow fort in the rear yard. Jonah takes in the snow art, impressed. The dome-shaped structure—it’s not a snow fort, no way, the unit resembles everything an igloo does—has to be four feet in diameter and three feet high. It looks sturdy in the snow, built of perfectly square icy-snow blocks by the youthful engineers. Kudos to Oliver and Owen Cunningham for building such an eye-appealing and wintry structure, Jonah thinks. Perhaps both will be amazing architects in the near future, flowering as young designers, wealthy and award-winners.

“Sandy!” Jonah calls out his lover’s name, searching.

Sandy calls back, a mere echo from inside the igloo, “I’m in here!”

Jonah walks to the front of the igloo, a narrow and short tunnel. He falls to his hands and knees in the snow and crawls inside.

Sandy sits cross-legged. Light from the outside world illuminates his seated frame. “How’d you find me?”
