9 “Imagination”

My head throbbed as I sat on the ground rocking my body back and forth. I was at a point where I couldn't even think. Only one thought filled my mind and repeated itself like a broken recorder.

Stop the screams.

Stop the screams.

Stop the screams.

I then felt my thread of rationality snap in two.

"SHUT UP!"

The copies of myself which bled simultaneously crackled as they only seemed to shout louder than before. I knew that this was a test. I knew that this was a challenge.

Yet a small part of me still continued to believe it as being reality. My headache only intensified as the screams grew louder. Even if I were to refuse the validity of this situation, I still don't think that I would be able to clear this challenge.

Due to this being a mental-based challenge I could easily determine that there must be something for me to solve or realize in order to pass.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I remembered the words of my older brother.

"If you ever find yourself in a terrible situation. Or if you ever find yourself in a bad place in here-"

My older brother would then point at his forehead before smiling and saying.

"You must do this technique. Think of nothing. Erase all of your thoughts. You are only to fill them with the image of the sea. After doing that think of the calm water. Focus on the slight waves which may arise. After that, imagine that there is slight vegetation near the sea. Now it has become a riverbank. Imagine the sun shining from above. It's rays manage to slip through the spaces between your fingers. The water sparkles as if it is a mine of sapphires. Now you would look to the left and find a rabbit or two frolicking. As you slowly add these images to your head, your consciousness starts to focus and your senses becomes sharper. Now the important part is this. Before opening your eyes, slowly count down from ten. After doing that lie back down and feel the prickly yet soft grass tickle the back of your neck. With that in mind close your eyes then open them to reality once more."

After doing that I opened my eyes to see my copies screaming. Despite hearing and seeing them, I felt at peace somehow. For some reason I felt something drop down my eyes. I reached over and touched my cheeks only to see red. Meaning that I was crying blood.

Instead of panicking I sighed and stood up shakily. My knees were about to buckle probably from the subconscious fear I felt. I then held myself up as I managed to avoid tripping over an object in the ground. Upon a closer look the object resembled a small hammer. My eyes continued to bleed and drip on the carpet below. I ignored that fact and allowed my curiosity to let me pick up the hammer.

Suddenly I felt two strong arms wrap themselves around me from behind. A husky voice which I know all too well whispered in my ear.

"Put the hammer down Char."

I turned and looked at my older brother's smile. My eyes now seemed to bleed even more than before. My body began to shake as if both of my legs had suddenly snapped. The one smile that I never wanted to see again was behind me once more.

"Let me go Ardon."

I was even shocked at the harsh tone that I had used to utter that sentence.

"Why should I let go of my dear little sister?"

"I SAID FUCKING LET GO OF ME!"

Ardon squeezes tighter as I started to struggle.

"What did I do to make you mad this time Char?"

I looked at the hammer in my hand and did not think twice as I turned and swung at the back of my brother's head.

He screamed as he released me. I then brought my leg up as I kicked him square in the chest. Ardon coughed blood as he fell to the ground. I then ran quickly towards the mirrors and smashed them with the hammer. My knuckles and arms bled as the glass flew from the mirrors.

Suddenly my copies stopped screaming and fell to the ground. The only thing that filled my ears was the sound of my deep breathing.

I looked up and closed my eyes as I thought.

Finally. Peace and Quiet.
