7 Who Am I to You?

One entire week has passed. After the bench incident, Evy ignored Eddy completely. He had caught her a few times looking at him, but before his eyes met hers directly, she used to either turn her face or start rolling her eyes.

She didn’t speak a single word to him. Last week all the lectures of Mrs. Natalia were cancelled as she had the flu. So, in that period, she either used to hang out with Hailey and Max or keep up with her studies in the library.

The library and Evy cannot be apart forever. She loves reading books. She is not your typical nerd who likes to keep her nose in the books. She just wants to get good grades and become something in life. She is your normal teenage girl, but the difference is that she is more focused than others.

Evy’s silence was killing Eddy. He still remembers her words, ‘I’ll never be able to forgive you.’

That means she wants to, but she can’t. Why can’t she forgive him like before? He has to talk to her to make things clear between them.

It’s been a week since Evy talked to Eddy. It was hurting her. She really wanted to go and hug him. She wants to speak to him about anything and everything. But for some reason, she cannot forget what he did to her. He made her life a living hell in this school despite being her best friend. She will not forgive him that easily.

She was going to her next class when suddenly someone pulled her into the janitor’s closet.

“Ouch!! What the hell? Who is it?” She shouted at the stranger who dared to pull her.

“It’s me, Evy,” a familiar voice answered.

“What do you want, Eddy? I mean, Edward?” She stumbled with her words. She couldn’t believe it; she used his nickname in front of him.

“It won’t kill you to call me Eddy, Evy?” He said it in a low voice that had a tint of sadness in it.

“But it will definitely give you a wrong impression of being friends again,” she said with a bitchy attitude.

“What’s wrong with being friends with me?”

“I don’t think it’s your business to know that.” She glared at him.

“As your best friend, yes, I think it’s my business to know everything about you.”

“Correction Mr. Edward Loraine. EX-BEST FRIEND. So, I don’t think I need to tell you anything.”

“Why Evy? Why? Why the hell can’t we be friends like before?”

“Friends. Do you even know the true meaning of it? Yes, we were great friends at the start, but not now. You changed the meaning of our bond, Ed. Friends trust each other, but I don’t trust you. I don’t.”

She was about to leave when Eddy grabbed her wrist.

“What is it now, Ed?” Evy asked, with pure irritation in her voice.

“What I am to you then?” He asked with a hurt look.

“Nothing. You are nothing to me. You are only an arrogant, self-centered jerk who used to be my best friend. That’s it. Full stop.” With that, she left the janitor’s closet.

Evy closed the door and wiped the unshed tears from her eyes. It did hurt her a bit, but she was a strong girl now. She still can’t believe she said that to him, but he had it coming. She is done with people walking over her. How much ever she wants to. She could never forgive him. Never.
